- Carolan trumps Sethra to find out what to do with the three surviving Dzur. Since they know about the Phoenix Heir, Sethra suggests they be shipped off to the Paths of the Dead for more training. However, Carolan has no Trump for Aliera, nor can he open a gate from the Paths of the Dead. - Carolan uses telepathy and the Orb to contact Aliera at the Paths of the Dead. She uses Pathfinder to find Carolan, and will use the same path to return. - Mistress Janice writes out an invitation to the Angry Children Tea for Tara. Cagliostro recalls that the Tea was apparently broken up at some point, and should be investigated. - Aliera arrives, greets Carolan, and bows formally to Princess Chandra (banging her head on the ground, dragging herself backwards). "You do remember me!" says a pleased Princess Chandra. - The Dzur are horrified, and decide to attack Aliera to see if she's all that after she groveled to some random Easterner. As they decide who goes in first, Aliera jumps the to-be-leader with a Morganti great weapon and immobilizes him. The Dzur allow that they perhaps could use some more training. - Carolan, Aliera, and Ilk compare notes. - Aliera leaves with the Dzur to go train them at the Paths of the Dead. - Princess Chandra announces to the crowd at large that she has chosen not to notice that Aliera had a Morganti weapon, and informs Carolan that Morgantis are forbidden by her decree, as they are anethema to her brother. - Carolan asks Princess Chandra about her place in the government, and they discuss politics and the nature of edicts. - Princess Chandra asks Ilk whether Jean is still compromised, because Ilk is the only one likely to know. She asks Ilk to let her know, because the next step involving Dalkantyr requires Jean. - Ilk cannot detect any connections between Jean and the Reality Engine or anything else, and cannot detect connections between Llewella and anything else else. - A Jean saucer is produced. Jean is still stoned. Princess Chandra asks Random to destone him. Random produces his poisoners kit, and proceeds to stall for time. - Attempt #1: Jean channels Senior Wences. Random slips something in the saucer. Jean is still stoned. Reality is somewhat purplish. - Attempt #2: Random spraypaints "Random was here" on the side of the saucer in such a way that it can only be seen if Jean spins at a precise speed. - Ilk decides that time is required. Ilk mentally calls out for Coral. Coral coalesces in Ilk's mind. Ilk asks Coral to help with Jean being stoned. Jean is 'touched by a lot of time', so Coral needs to get permission to try. Melk apparently tells Coral that it would be a 'good exercise' for her. Coral is now worried. - A nice young lady coalesces out of nothing. She introduces herself as Coral and gives Princess Chandra a hug. Princess Chandra seems happy to hug her back. Coral shares a moment of no-time with Random, who now looks much more tired. - Coral grabs Jean. Jean feels like he's held still for an eternity. The drugs don't let Jean be bored. Coral falls over, almost transclucent from power loss. - Jean has a brief catchup with Ilk about his compromise. Jean is unhappy. - The Jean saucer tractors over to Llewella, pimp slaps her, says "Bitch!" and returns to where he was. - Ilk ensures that the Jean scale is not tapped. It would require Serpent power to do it, and is beyond Llewella. However, Ilk is worried about the Black Council. - Jean talks to the grey man in Amber and issues a proclamation that Llewella is guilty of a large number of crimes (including the disappearance of Brendhyn, the destruction of Rebma, violating her parole and her word to the King, and assault upon the steward's person). The proclamation declares her a traitor to the blood, and suggests that she (like Gwen, Oberon, and the son of Gerard before) is no longer subject to Dworkin's edict. - Jean suggests bringing Neville back to keep an eye on things and maybe a second one to keep an eye on the reality engine. Ilk realizes that he has a non-Norton way of dragging Neville out of the Jewel. Ilk does recall that there a moratorim on resurrecting Amberites at the moment because there is some concern that Oberon may escape or hagride someone else's soul out of the Jewel. - Jean tries to convince Princess Chandra to kill Llewella, even though Dworkin is insane. He fails, but she does agree to make sure Llewella can't escape. Princess Chandra asks Jean to make Dworkin sane again quickly, for her sake. - Jean talks to Ferethyn about restoring his ways to an offshore state so that Dworkin can be resaned. Ferethyn hadn't been home in a while, so he didn't realize that Shadow had washed over his ways. Ferethyn is unhappy. - Ferethyn rants at Ilk about how difficult it was to get his Ways together in the first place - he had to find a leaf from a kraken stable enough to float in the sea on its own, but light enough to be towed. - Ferethyn suggests taking Dworkin out onto one of the kraken to resane him. Carolan points out the viewscreen to Ferethyn, who is impressed but Ilk says he can find a closer kraken. - Ilk takes a Jean to a kraken in the forest of kraken. - Ilk takes a Jean to where crazy Dworkin is. Jean juggles a bit, declines to juggle Silver Lyra, REN, and Hamster Corwin. Jean returns to his job as Dworkin wrangler. - Dworkin is cajoled into the fish, fished to a kraken, and is perfectly sane. And has no memory of anything that happened after drawing the Pattern. Again. (Ilk recalls this as a problem, Jean does not.) Jean starts a fragmentary and five-year old history of the universe, without benefit of props, shouted from the mouth of the Serpent's Apprentice over to Dworkin on the kraken. - Suhuy reveals that he created an egg as a backup memory device after the last time, and directs Ilk toward that part of the lab. Ilk fetches the egg and produces it to Dworkin. - Dworkin eats the egg (his favorite flavor). His features shift. He apologizes to Jean for what he put him through, but Jean doesn't know what the fuss is about. - Dworkin expects that Neville will take a lot of work to fix - the Pattern tends to be (literally) draconic about how it kills people. Neville is probably in Kolvir, not in the Jewel, and there's probably a little bit of Neville in every seed of the kraken. Ilk hopes that Auricle can help ask for him back. - Dworkin is pleased that Auricle has mastered the new Pattern. He liked her, she asked him good questions. - Dworkin agrees that Chaos should judge Llewella for her crimes, particularly kidnapping the guilds and killing Osric. He suggests a hanging judge - er, king. Jean suggests the bear mage as the guild second of the mage's guild, and Dworkin concurs. - In Mandor's ways, Jean tries to slip notes to a sleeping bear mage. Snores and wackiness ensue. - Dworkin asks Kintani to restate his edict that dragons shouldn't eat Kolvir the Kraken. Kintani asks Dworkin to ask Jean. Jean asks Flora. Flora suggests the archive, edict #14. The grey man produces a copy of edict #14 - it's 600 pages. Jean asks Ilk to convey a copy of Edict #14 to Kintani. Ilk does so. - Kintani reissues the original dragon edict, which was in full: "That one - don't eat it!" - Dworkin feels like he should be helping someone with something. Jean and Dworkin talk about Amber; Dworkin didn't really like the castle, but he did like the dungeons a lot. The point of the place was that it was tied into the Patterns. Dworkin is not interested in interviewing a new kraken to support Amber-that-was-on-Kolvir. - Ilk realizes that the kraken is accreting stuff. It was crazy, but not as crazy as Dworkin. Ilk asks Dworkin about getting a confident leaf from the kraken - Dworkin denies being a krakologist. - Jean suggests using a Dworkin fish to test areas to see if they are Dworkin-safe. Dworkin suggests asking Norton about it. Jean makes a note in the Dancer's Guild to ask Norton to create a Dworkin-safe tuna. - Jean talks to Dalkantyr. Dalkantyr is surprised that Jean can talk to it and further surprised that it feels like listening. Jean briefly explains about unlife. Dalkantyr explains that it is trying to destroy all outposts of the reality engine, because the reality engine can hurt it. Jean checks Ilk's opinion of the reality engine - Ilk wants to dismantle it, brick by brick. - Dalkantyr doesn't trust Jean - it's known too many Amberites. Especially Mikail. It hates Mikail. Hates him. Haaaates him. Dalkantyr is not impressed by Jean's word as the Master of Unlife. However, Jean was around for mostly-killing Mikail. Jean shares some memories that appear on Dalkantyr's sails, including Norton giving an undead noogie to a naked Mikail. Jean convinces Dalkantyr to stop trying to destroy Gil, in exchange for an alliance to destroy the reality engine. - Dalkantyr stops trying to crush Gil. The Ifrit ward maintainers stand down and begin work on the epic poem to commemorate their heroic effort - and ask Cagliostro if they can help their brethren. - Cagliostro recruits the ifrit to help fix the remainder of the paralyzed Ifrit. It is a purely physical fix, and the paralysis is acutely painful - like having arthritis all over. On the order of 50 Ifrit (but perhaps as many as 500) survived the battle (aka, most of them). - Princess Chandra doesn't believe that the reality engine can be destroyed without throwing reality out of balance, but believes that Pharaban will know more about it. - Ilk travels to Pharaban's ways to look for him. Ilk finds an actual (apparent) member of House Pharaban, and is creeped out. Ilk requests that Pharaban talk to him when a moment presents itself. - Jean passes along Ilk's questions for Dalkantyr. Dalkantyr is surprised at the idea of a council of people that may be able to control it. It asks if the Black Council are on the 'do not crush list', but Jean reassures him that they are on the 'please crush' list. Dalkantyr asks where - Jean indicates the viewscreen. "They're there? But... that's the lab! She might get control me again... oh, well." - Dalkontyr starts to move and vanishes from the crowd. - Ilk grabs a Jean and keeps it alongside Dalkantyr. Look! There's Kintani! - Jean keeps talking to Dalkantyr, asking permission to come aboard. Dalkantyr says Jean can't come aboard, Mikail fucked up the ability of people to board Dalkantyr. The pathways to remove that are the same ones to control Dalkantyr, and Dalkantyr doesn't trust Mikail. At all. - Dalkantyr is worried about the Creatrix. White statues... wings... Jean recalls having killed that one twice. Dalkantyr -really- wants to see those memories. Jean shares. - Pharaban, in the form of a small spider, lands on Caelin and requests Yeti form as more appropriate. They travel. Pharaban steps through a gate, and Caelin now senses great fear coming from a carved place. Caelin runs. - Elsewhere, one of Natasha's pieces of jewelry starts flashing. Natasha informs Ilk that Caelin's left home again. - Kintani sees Dalkantyr sail past him and toward the Black Council. Kintani sees both cannons and ballistae on Dalkantyr. The local gardener apprentice agrees that moving the kraken back is a good plan. - Elsewhere in reality, Professor Eagleton is very drunk and has finished creating a Fringe dragon. "Whoa!" says the local Johnny, "I thought that was impossible." "Nothing is impossible when SCIENCE is being used!" says Eagleton. Eagleton asks the dragon for a name suggestion - the dragons suggest 'Doom'. Eagleton likes Doom as a name. Johnny is skeptical. Doom likes Doom as a name. Johnny is outvoted. Eagleton christens Doom with something resembling champaigne. Doom flies off. - Princess Chandra warns that people should step back. How far? About a hundred feet. People move back. A fringe dragon arrives and sits on Llewella. Small explosions happen. The dragon mouths Llewella, who fails to react. Doom pouts, and leaves looking for a new target. - Doom arrives at the blucited lab, in the sea. Dalkantyr asks Jean what that was - Jean lets Dalkantyr know that's his ally. Dalkantyr doesn't know anything about the blue stuff - so Jean says that the dragon is made of the opposite of the blue stuff. Jean references Pattern/Logrus explosions - which Dalkantyr is familiar with, thanks to Mikail. - The Fringe dragon flies up to the Black Council members, which turn to face it. The Fringe dragon breathes a cone of crystal shards onto the blucite behind the council. There is an earthshattering kaboom. Of the three members, one is floating in the sea, one is chasing the fringe dragon, one is scrabbling at the hole in the blucite, trying to force its way onto the promontory. Doom invokes the better part of valor and flies away, at speed. - Dalktanyr rams the black council member trying to scrabble a hole into the reality. Dalkantyr impales the black council member and flies away with it on its bow. - Kintani checks the immobile dragon - it's been cored, and there's no sign of life. - Kinanti contacts Doom, who is being pursued and can't turn around without being caught. Kinanti chases after Doom and the council member. He's faster, but this will take some time. - Ilk checks the black council member - it's screaming in pain and trying with no success to bring its claws and teeth to bear. It is beating its tail against Dalkantyr, with no effect. - Jean talks to Dalkantyr, who is surprised and disappointed that the serpent isn't dead. Dalkantyr admits to not being good at followthrough, Jean promises to help. - Ilk looks for Ubermjolnir - not in shadow. He can't get into the reality engine promontory - there must be other defenses past the blucite. - Ilk searches through Jean for Ubermjolnir, and succeeds. He pokes some tendrils out through Jean there. He finds that Ubermjolnir is on a mobile serpent, waytheheckoff that way. - Ilk introduces himself to the serpent under Ubermjolnir. That serpent warns Ilk about a cataclysm happening on its back. Ilk professes the ability to relocate that cataclysm. That serpent really wants to count Ilk as an ally. Ilk briefs the serpent on the black council - it's an early volunteer to Serpenthood. It didn't know about the black council, but it did know a member way back in the day, when it was an egg. Arrogant type. - Ilk and that serpent start moving rapidly toward the lab promontory, bearing Ubermjolnir. Jean lets Dalkantyr know that another ally is arriving to help with the followthrough. - Kintani lands on the council member, which tries to shake him off. Kintani plays with logrus claws and kraken leaves. Kintani shoves a leaf under a black council scale - the black council member tries to kill Kinanti. Kintani flees, at speed, and lets Doom know that it can stop running. They use tactics. - Ilk realizes that he has no idea where the dead black council member's soul went, nor where the souls its scales went. - Tactics work somewhat, and the second breath + explosion blows off the back half of the black council member. This speeds him up - less drag. Kintani tries to use kraken power to grab his soul - and fails. Kintani is now slower than the black council member. Kintani tries to dodge - and can dodge, because the black council member is avoiding giving Doom another shot. - Jean talks to Dalkantyr about its weapons - they can't be loaded, because you have to board to load the weapons, and it's impossible to load the weapons. Thanks to Mikail. Ilk asks whether Logrus could board the ship, since Mikail had a tendency to leave loopholes. Dalkantyr says that the defenses require time, and both Jean and Ilk realize that it's probably an easy problem - for people who aren't currently available. They make mental notes. - Dalkantyr opens an ammunition locker and shakes, with along with the dragon tail knocks them out. Ilk checks about loading from the outside - Dalkantyr doesn't think that will work. The spheres implode, and the spear describes a gravity vortex. Ilk believes that Dalkantyr's weapons involve letting the Sea of Chance (its home) into things. - Ilk starts throwing spears etc. into the front half of the dragon, from behind. Dodging gets easier for Kintani. Ilk goes back to the impaled one, and doesn't seem to be making much of an impression trying to beat on it with a spear. However, Dalkantyr's suggestion of shoving a ball up its nose seems to make an impression. It also seals the nostril, as does the second ball in nostril #2. - Kintani lines up the shot, and the front half gets blown away by another Fringe/blucite explosion. All volatized, no souls. No power at all, just mess. - Dalkantyr circles around toward the promontory and the dragons. The remaining council member gets 2/3 of the way off the prow, but Ilk uses harpoons as boat hooks to try and put it back on. - Kintani tries to hit the third member with dragon power and kraken power at the same point - Dalkantyr grounds both powers out. - Caelin continues to run, and the terror continues to get further away. Caelin sees more signs of civilization, and bursts into a bustling metropolis. He realizes that this is the great circle opposite point, and stops running. There is a temple at the opposite point, with statues of fat humans and lots of people in yellow. - Caelin bows to the humans. One pulls out a curved sword and tries to kill him. Caelin dodges. - Pharaban arrives and lands on a statue. Pharaban says that the locals moved to this point to get as far away from the Fear as possible. Pharaban focuses his Fear on Caelin - who runs to get to the furthest point away. - Caelin runs into another temple. In the center of the old temple is a big black stone, a big meteoric looking thing. It's horrifying - but not as horrifying as Pharaban. Caelin leaves, and the rock follows - with its wings. White wings. Caelin runs faster. - Caelin panics at Pharaban, who tells him to lead him back to the temple. Apparently the rock is a descendant of Pharaban. Caelin leads him back to the temple. Caelin carefully de-Yetis and backs away - the rock looks around for a bit, then settles back on its pedestal. - Caelin opens a gate to Pharaban, who thanks him for his help (as a divining rod) and dismisses Caelin. Caelin asks Pharaban to contact Princess Chandra before talking to him - Pharaban demurrs. Caelin opens up a gate to Chaos, which he finds to be fairly easy. Eight or ten other people jump through the gate into Chaos, which Pharaban professes not to care about. Caelin takes a note of what the jumpers looked like, then goes back to his papers. - Caelin finds that his door guard has still run off and there are a set of refugees knocking outside and asking to get in, and saying there's (literally) nowhere else to go. Caelin finds that someone has left him a squirrel in a box. There is a note: "Dear sir, please take care of my baby". Caelin levitates the squirrel so it can be caught and recommends that it be fed nuts. - The serpent with Ubermjolnir arrives, and Ilk grabs it for use. Ilk isn't sure Ubermjolnir can survive the raw sea, but the area near Dalkantyr looks more stable. The first blow knocks him further onto Dalkantyr - which points out that one more blow and the dragon will be on the deck. Ilk smacks again, and there is a poof and no more dragon. (And no souls, and no debris other than dragon ick.) Ilk decides to keep Ubermjolnir in his mouth. - Dalkantyr requests someone hose off the dragon bits, and Ilk volunteers. - Orpheus requests a crystal upgrade for Orpheus, and Johnny4 starts thinking about the Fringe and Fringe armor.
