Conversation with #dkap_amber
(20:14:55) The topic for #dkap_amber is: eating dinner
(20:15:12) dkap has changed the topic to: And so, it begins
(20:15:18) arkhonII: I found a dkap downstairs.
(20:16:00) dkap: Sorry ... I was reading and didn't notice the time.
(20:16:25) dkap: That's one of the (few) good things about TV. It lets me know when hours happen.
(20:25:35) dkap: Right ... where did we leave off last time? I'm sorry I continued on with Dave and lost track of the stopping point. And my dreams were ... strange.
(20:26:03) arkhonII: Not out of the ordinary.
(20:26:22) dkap: True enough.
(20:26:33) arkhonII: The last thing johnny remembers is seeing a spike in power, followed by another spike, then a drain I think. Not necessarily in that order.
(20:30:22) Cagliostro has changed the topic to: Amber!
(20:32:00) arkhonII: YAY
(20:32:16) Cagliostro: I don't recall where we left off, and I'm not on my laptop.
(20:32:32) Cagliostro: I think the Jean/Auricle group was about to head out and leave the castle under the supervision of two Ifrit
(20:32:42) Cagliostro: taken from the pink fleshy nodule shadow
(20:33:04) arkhonII: (23:54:50) dkap: The Ifrit bows, and replies "Then, it seems our goals run in tandem. We will depend on those we are reporting to, to keep you informed, if such is desired?"
(20:33:04) arkhonII left the room (quit: Excess Flood).
(20:33:58) dkap: Right ... there then.
(20:35:05) Cagliostro: I don't believe that Cagliostro did anything other than greenlight the Ifrit assignments and create the jump kit last week
(20:36:00) dkap: And get updated as to the situation from the memory of the Ifrit.
(20:36:02) arkhonII [~arkhon@c-66-31-35-127.hsd1.ma.comcast.net] entered the room.
(20:36:19) Cagliostro: oh, yes. and also fix the stuck ifrit, and start pondering on a fix.
(20:36:22) Cagliostro: Which, as it turns out, I have.
(20:36:27) arkhonII: Good.
(20:36:32) arkhonII: You got the dump then?
(20:36:52) Cagliostro: we got one line of the dump, which was enough for context, I think.
(20:37:23) arkhonII: Okay. not going to try it again.
(20:37:32) Cagliostro: so, what if the Ifrit had an organ that would slowly generate new 'air', but laid dormant when they were at the correct pressure?
(20:37:54) Cagliostro: that would allow the Ifrit to recover naturally from gashes or from having their air essence removed.
(20:38:25) Cagliostro: it wouldn't directly solve the problem of the solidification from ther eality engine, but if someone else removed the solid this would allow them to recover
(20:39:18) dkap: That might work ... if they had the backup air to start the air generator ... so maybe, you would need to remove the solid, and then jump-start them, but then they would be more self-repairing.
(20:40:06) Cagliostro: would the air generator need air to start working?
(20:40:35) Cagliostro: or can the air be created by an solid organ? a diffusion/combustion process
(20:42:07) dkap: Well ... unless you create it as another "being" inside them ... some sort of symbiot ... that actually continues to function, and needs other things to sustain it, which would, of course, open up other vulnerabilities ...
(20:43:00) Cagliostro: hm. I was thinking an organ similar to the ones that the devil used, that would generate air spontaneously until it reached an approved pressure
(20:43:18) Cagliostro: a filter process might work better, some sort of automatic breathing/filtering reflex
(20:43:28) Cagliostro: which would only work in an atmosphere, but would still be an improvement
(20:50:32) dkap: I'll think on how the construction would work, without leaving other vulnerabilities. One of the nice things about the Ifrit, is that they don't need to breath, which seals off one of the lines of attack.
(20:51:34) Cagliostro: yes.
(20:51:35) Cagliostro: hmm...
(20:51:47) Cagliostro: what if they had a storehouse of a chemical that could sublimate?
(20:52:03) Cagliostro: so if they needed air, the stone would heat and sublimate and replenish their supply
(20:53:24) dkap: Perhaps, you could generate a sack of stones, so that should one fall over, another individual could take the stone from their pouch, and place it inside, once the danger is gone, and that would go a long way towards fixing them?
(20:54:04) Cagliostro: that would be even better, as it wouldn't require modifying the base design
(20:54:26) Cagliostro: but it does bother me that they don't seem to have a mechanism for maintaining a constant pressure
(20:54:27) dkap: Indeed.
(20:54:45) Cagliostro: and I should worry about pressure -increasing- as well as decreasing - a method for output that doesn't involve a rupture
(20:55:07) Cagliostro: it does sound like there needs to be a usually-sealed connection between the inner air & outer air
(20:55:08) dkap: Well ... they probably have a mechanism for adjusting their pressure consciously, but when they are down, they are not conscious, so therefore ...
(20:55:18) Cagliostro: ah, okay
(20:55:27) Cagliostro: so an automatic method is what I'm looking for, not just a method
(20:55:40) dkap: It is how they "rise up in the air, with no seeming change of the air around them"
(20:55:44) dkap: Indeed.
(20:55:47) Cagliostro: I'll work on the sack of stones technique for now, and distribute those via magical gate
(20:55:50) Cagliostro: ah, good point.
(20:55:54) Cagliostro: and ponder the rest.
(20:56:46) dkap: Or, simply write up the spell, and pass that about, for, I'm sure, your Ifrit mages might be capable of creating them, so your efforts are only instructional in nature, and they will manage the rest.
(20:57:03) Cagliostro: sounds simpler
(20:57:25) Cagliostro: but it wouldn't hurt to have a sack of the stones stored at the castle and at the ramp
(20:57:31) Cagliostro: you never know when some nimrod is going to turn off magic
(20:57:41) arkhonII: *ahem*
(20:58:40) dkap: Some other nimrod ... not just Caelin.
(20:59:06) arkhonII: I'm busy being inconspicuous. I know nothing.
(21:01:41) Cagliostro: wait, can the Ifrit conjure?
(21:01:54) Cagliostro: or can you create items with magic other than through conjuration?
(21:03:22) dkap: They have not (yet) been taught to conjure, as far as I know, but there is no reason that they cannot cause a property to exist within a stone that would achieve the effect. It might not be so elegant as conjuration, but ... it will suffice.
(21:04:01) Cagliostro: excellent
(21:04:05) Cagliostro: teaching to fish, etc.
(21:05:08) dkap: Exactly.
(21:05:36) Cagliostro: okay, I think t hat's it for Cagliostro, for now
(21:05:38) dkap: Caelin ... there is a small package that "appears mysteriously" in your room.
(21:06:00) arkhonII: Look at Natasha. I'm sure she's already noticed it.
(21:06:21) dkap: She's the one that nudged you and pointed it out at one of the slower moments.
(21:07:14) arkhonII: Ahh!
(21:07:49) arkhonII: "Well...er...I think only Ilk might know where we are at this point..."
(21:08:43) dkap: She suggests that you open it.
(21:09:14) arkhonII: "Because I'm less likely to die from it if it's a trap?"
(21:09:23) arkhonII: *get dressed*
(21:09:49) dkap: No, because the writing on it that is fading had your name as part of it.
(21:10:04) arkhonII: Huh.
(21:10:28) arkhonII: Okay. Zoom in with a conjured lens to see the writing, if I still can.
(21:11:44) dkap: It has faded. The package seems to be simple brown paper, tied in string, with something inside. Perhaps a half an inch thick, or maybe a whole inch, square about 9 inches on a side.
(21:11:57) arkhonII: Get up, raise magical shields, make a small aperture through them, and magically open the box with conjured hot pot tongs.
(21:12:14) arkhonII: Er, lift with the tongs.
(21:12:20) arkhonII: Out of the bag, the object.
(21:12:42) dkap: There is no bag, just string tied around brown paper, enclosing the object.
(21:12:50) dkap: But you can untie the string with the tongs.
(21:12:59) arkhonII: Dothat.
(21:13:32) dkap: The string seems to stick on itself for a moment, and then unties rapidly, sending the disk and the several scrolls spinning about the room.
(21:14:34) dkap: One, of course, has fallen under the hardest to reach point under the bed, the other is laying under the table that it appeared on, the third and forth are simply across the room from you. You don't seem to immediately be able to spot where the disk has gone.
(21:15:19) arkhonII: Levitate the left-most scroll and bring it through the shields, not touching them.
(21:15:33) Cagliostro: (obviously scrolls of 'dispel nookie')
(21:16:02) arkhonII: *snort*
(21:16:22) arkhonII: Open that one.
(21:17:41) dkap: It is something from house moonlight ... an invitation for the head of house to the next council meeting, signed by Mandor.
(21:17:51) arkhonII: Ahh!
(21:18:03) arkhonII: "good...wonder what everything else is...
(21:18:20) arkhonII: "Natasha, did you see where the disk went?"
(21:18:29) arkhonII: Get up and retrieve the ones I can spot.
(21:18:47) dkap: "Disk?"
(21:19:02) arkhonII: "You didn't see a disk go spinning away?"
(21:19:17) dkap: Three and Four in the corner, and two is under the center of the bed.
(21:19:42) arkhonII: Conjure a very light breeze and roll the one out from under the bed.
(21:19:42) dkap: "No, I didn't see a disk spinning away."
(21:20:16) dkap: Your skill with "very light" is dubious at best, you might have better luck fishing away with the tongs.
(21:20:27) arkhonII: Feh. Fish out with tongs.
(21:21:02) dkap: You succeed, without blowing down the walls of the safe room provided to you by the Count.
(21:21:08) dkap: Much to everyone's delight.
(21:21:57) arkhonII: Levitate everything else in this room that is 'scroll weight or less' and bring it into a tight circle around me.
(21:22:10) Ilkndacian [~dkern@c-24-63-163-46.hsd1.ma.comcast.net] entered the room.
(21:22:18) Ilkndacian: Testing...
(21:22:26) arkhonII: Here.
(21:22:40) dkap: You found it.
(21:22:43) dkap: Yay.
(21:25:34) Cagliostro: so, Caelin is sitting in bed (dressed) surrounded by scrolls of 'disrupt move'
(21:25:35) Cagliostro: er,mood
(21:25:48) arkhonII: Heh
(21:25:52) dkap: There is a circle of bits of scroll circling you.
(21:25:59) arkhonII: Bits?
(21:26:10) arkhonII: My levitate spell has a little too much octane?
(21:26:14) dkap: Well ... they apparently did not survive the "tight" part of the circle.
(21:27:14) arkhonII: It's not like I was drawing them into orbit. Just into a circle.
(21:27:29) arkhonII: "Gaahhh what the hell happened to my finesse?!"
(21:28:14) dkap: "Dear, it seemed to disappear right about the point in which you were holding more power in you than in the rest of shadow and reality put together. Why do you ask?
(21:28:45) arkhonII: Turn my gaze inward, and my voice. "IF ANYONE SABOTAGES ANY MORE SHIT THAT I DO, I AM GOING TO ELIMINATE ALL OF YOU. RECONSTRUCT EVERY LAST ONE OF THESE SCROLLS _NOW_, AND IF THEY DO NOT MATCH THE MESSAGES THAT I VERIFY, I WILL ARANGE FOR YOUR GRAVES"
(21:30:14) dkap: It echoes through your mind ... and nothing changes.
(21:30:36) arkhonII: Start opening scrolls.
(21:31:15) dkap: Well ... they are in pieces in a tight circle around you ... there is not much to ... open.
(21:32:03) arkhonII: Conjure an image on 'vid screen' of the memory of my last trip out to the branch of a kraken.
(21:33:06) dkap: "Pretty, my darling. Are we going there next?"
(21:33:45) arkhonII: "We will be if I don't get my finesse back, without sacrificing my power reserves..."
(21:34:16) arkhonII: have I any reconstruction spells?
(21:34:20) dkap: "Sure ... what did the scroll that you did read say?"
(21:35:00) arkhonII: "Invitation by Mandor to the next Council meeting.
(21:35:46) dkap: "When, and are we going?"
(21:35:53) dkap: "Or are we delegating someone?"
(21:36:12) arkhonII: "Well, if _I_ can't make it, then my house second gets to go."
(21:36:28) arkhonII: "Where the hell is that disk?!"
(21:37:51) dkap: What disk?
(21:38:15) arkhonII: "The disk that flew off in a direction I don't recall....
(21:38:37) arkhonII: Search the floor of the room by hand. Cover every square inch.
(21:38:42) dkap: Nothing.
(21:38:46) arkhonII: Reduce size to a little bird, in fact.
(21:39:00) dkap: And the paper bits circling you are still annoying.
(21:39:24) arkhonII: Conjure a trash bin and let them sink into it.
(21:39:43) arkhonII: Search again, with different perspective and better eyes.
(21:40:25) dkap: Nothing comes up.
(21:40:56) arkhonII: damn...back to full size.
(21:41:58) dkap: "Dear, would you cast the image of the disk that you saw, so I might help?"
(21:42:14) arkhonII: do that
(21:42:41) dkap: She pulls the disk out from under the covers "This disk?"
(21:43:01) arkhonII: YES
(21:43:26) arkhonII: "how'd that get there?"
(21:43:28) dkap: "OK. I was wondering what slid under there."
(21:43:43) dkap: "Probably when the package blew up."
(21:44:17) arkhonII: "whatever, what us it?"
(21:45:05) dkap: She looks at it for a minute, and then opines: "Probably some sort of bibliomancy, considering the source, and the contents of what you have told me so far ..."
(21:45:39) arkhonII: "Okay, that's all I need to know. I won't touch it."
(21:45:55) arkhonII: "Likely from my house second."
(21:46:38) arkhonII: "Though with my luck, it's likely an indication to come home, but I can't VERIFY that because somehow once again I managed to destroy the message that it came with."
(21:48:02) dkap: "Right, perhaps we should send a message home, asking them to resend the communications?
(21:48:19) arkhonII: "Okay, let's do that.
(21:48:36) arkhonII: Conjure a scroll and something to write with.
(21:49:43) dkap: It tears itself to bits, and starts circling around you.
(21:49:44) arkhonII: On message: Whatever message was sent with bibliomantic token was not recieved. Please resend.
(21:49:50) arkhonII: HUh.
(21:49:57) arkhonII: Exaimine the area magically.
(21:50:41) dkap: There is the slight echo of your spell, like a burp after a good meal.
(21:51:14) arkhonII: *cocks his head*
(21:51:18) arkhonII: Interesting.
(21:51:47) arkhonII: That is all that's evident? An echo of my spell?
(21:52:01) arkhonII: Conjure again a scroll, this time with magic sight up.
(21:52:56) dkap: This time the scroll stays conjured, in one piece.
(21:53:08) dkap: Oh, and your scan of the magic ate the magic that was causing the scroll to circulate.
(21:55:41) arkhonII: Alright. from now on, every spell is a textbook creation spell from the ground up. See if I can use precisely the power required to do the spell instead of using SCADS of POWER...and create another scroll, this time with magic sight down.
(21:55:57) dkap: Scroll in hand.
(21:56:02) dkap: No other activity.
(21:57:07) arkhonII: Write in message: "Message attached to disk was destroyed. Please resend."
(21:57:17) arkhonII: Gate it to moonlight.
(21:57:53) dkap: Where in Moonlight?
(21:58:36) arkhonII: The front door. INSIDE the moat.
(21:59:03) dkap: The guy in the rocking chair picks it up.
(21:59:19) arkhonII: Wait to see if he delivers it.
(21:59:41) dkap: He knocks on the door, when answered by the deaf boy, he says "Message for you, sir." and hands the boy the note.
(21:59:57) arkhonII: Good. Close gate.
(22:01:02) dkap: A few moments later, another package arrives, the writing on the outside fading as you watch, with the exception of a note that reads IMPORTANT, READ BEFORE DESTROYING. -Archivist
(22:02:42) arkhonII: Heh. Using no magic, pick up and read.
(22:04:11) dkap: You pick up the package, brown paper, tied with string, feels like two scrolls inside, and a disk.
(22:04:48) arkhonII: Lay package on the bed, untie the string.
(22:08:16) dkap: It unfolds, two scrolls inside.
(22:08:24) arkhonII: Read the first.
(22:09:09) dkap: It is a Challenge Of Honor, naming House Moonlight as defender, claiming wrongs done to their house.
(22:09:29) dkap: (oh and a disk inside, that is an exact duplicate of the other disk that you have)
(22:09:29) arkhonII: What house?
(22:09:38) dkap: Trantor
(22:09:55) arkhonII: And the other scroll...what does it say?
(22:14:39) dkap: It reads "I'm sorry I cannot produce copies of the other two scrolls. One was an invitation to Council, the other was a delicate matter of house politics, and accepting someone's petition to join the house, the forth was a note from me reading that these three things I though you should be the one to take care of, including my suggestion for putting Zorro forward as the house champion for the duel."
(22:15:05) arkhonII: SMILE
(22:15:28) arkhonII: Conjure scroll and prepare a reply. See if scroll is destroyed in process.
(22:15:44) dkap: Nope. Scroll stays.
(22:16:45) arkhonII: Reply on scroll: "I agree that Zorro should be put forward as house champion. Is there any indication of who the petition to join the house is from?"
(22:16:54) arkhonII: And send reply via gate, as before.
(22:17:10) dkap: Another package arrives.
(22:17:19) arkhonII: Open and read.
(22:20:07) dkap: Single scroll this time. Archivists's hand "Zorro will be put forward as the champion, the petition should be something you hear in person, as I am afraid I do not feel confident in accepting new house members, and will you be going to the Council, or will you publicly appoint your representitive to go in your place?"
(22:22:26) arkhonII: Reply, same as before: I will hear the petition when next I am available. Seeing as I was asked to be here for some time, I suppose I should remain should I be called upon again. Are you available to go?
(22:22:28) arkhonII: And send.
(22:24:10) dkap: The reply is a single note that reads "This is cumbersome. Might I come to your present location?"
(22:27:03) arkhonII: reply yes and send
(22:28:29) dkap: Count Cagliostro. A message, with a video-tape is passed to you, of a gate opening in your village, the (broken) Ifrit (from the arrow-place investigation) returned, with a note pinned to it that reads "Sorry, I didn't mean to break her. Hopefully you can fix her, she's a beautiful piece of work."
(22:29:15) Cagliostro: didn't I fix her once?
(22:29:22) Cagliostro: so this is a new problem?
(22:29:22) dkap: Yes, you did.
(22:29:28) dkap: Yes, it is.
(22:29:39) Cagliostro: sigh.
(22:29:46) Cagliostro: and read her memories, figure out the problem this time.
(22:29:52) dkap: The messenger states that the coffin part of the package is waiting outside for delivery to you.
(22:30:13) dkap: (the first package was just the tape and a note from your staff in the village.
(22:30:48) Cagliostro: okay, has anyone opened the coffin?
(22:30:56) Cagliostro: presumably teh tape was of my surveillance system
(22:31:01) dkap: Not yet, it's addressed to you.
(22:31:19) dkap: And the coffin, from what you saw on the tape, was added after the Ifrit was returned.
(22:31:33) dkap: And yes, the video tape was from your equipment.
(22:31:57) Cagliostro: ah, makes sense
(22:32:05) Cagliostro: have that brought inside to a workroom, and go to said workroom
(22:32:09) Cagliostro: and, as I said, start work.
(22:32:14) dkap: Indeed.
(22:32:59) dkap: Caelin, there is a moment of displaced air, Natasha's sword bisects the place a moment later. The Archivist is dying.
(22:33:12) arkhonII: *smacks forehead*
(22:33:22) arkhonII: "I TOLD HIM HE COULD COME"
(22:33:31) arkhonII: Direct pressure.
(22:33:48) arkhonII: Is he conscious?!
(22:34:01) dkap: "Warn me first next time?"
(22:34:06) dkap: Not any more.
(22:34:12) dkap: She's run out the door for help.
(22:34:13) arkhonII: "YOU'VE BEEN READING OVER MY SHOULDER"
(22:34:18) arkhonII: True name heal him.
(22:34:27) arkhonII: Yeah, I know...this is going to suck
(22:34:36) arkhonII: "Hopefully he won't explode"
(22:35:48) dkap: Shouldn't you just do the duct-tape wood-glue thing, and let someone from Cagliostro's staff, who is good at it heal him, instead of chancing that whatever is inside you might transfer to him with his true name, just slightly modified?
(22:36:01) Cagliostro: much more fun to blow up his house second
(22:36:10) arkhonII: Fuck.
(22:36:24) arkhonII: Alright. Conjure duct tape and tape him up.
(22:36:52) arkhonII: "Natasha. YOU broke him...so YOU take him to Cagliostro and get him healed."
(22:37:01) dkap: Count, Natasha bursts into your workshop, just as you are prying up the top of the coffin.
(22:37:39) Cagliostro: look up
(22:38:00) Cagliostro: I figure she will make it clear what the purpose of the bursting is, and hopefully she's not about to try to kill me, etc.
(22:38:06) dkap: She bows to you and utters "My lord. I am sorry to disturb you while you are working, but, alas, due to a miscommunication, we have a bit of a medical emergency that I am hoping I can impose on you to solve?"
(22:39:16) Cagliostro: bow briefly in agreement and walk to join her
(22:40:49) dkap: She leads you down the hall to the storeroom you set Caelin up in. On the floor, in a puddle of blood, is the Archivist (whom I don't recall you meeting, but he looks almost exactly like Caelin, except for all-white hair.)
(22:41:21) dkap: It looks like he has been neatly bisected, just about thorasic vertebre 10.
(22:41:23) arkhonII: "He was better off when he was undead..."
(22:42:06) Cagliostro: "The desired solution is hale and living, I presume?"
(22:42:07) dkap: Caelin has manged to put the two halves back together, and has begun to wind duct-tape around him.
(22:42:24) Cagliostro: give him a quick scan - how bad off is he? mortally wounded, mostly dead, all dead?
(22:42:27) dkap: Natasha looks somewhat pained and replies "Yes."
(22:43:07) dkap: Mortally wounded. It appears that several of his major organs are in more than one piece. Both kidneys, the spleen, the bowels, the spine ...
(22:43:10) Cagliostro: and because it's Caelin, Cagliostro will ask "Any other complicating factors?"
(22:43:53) arkhonII: "I was in NO WAY responsible for this one."
(22:43:53) Cagliostro: start with the fixing, even before the answer
(22:44:55) Cagliostro: can I keep him alive long enough to fix him, or should I start worrying about downloading?
(22:45:06) dkap: Natasha replies "It should be a simple sword-cut, I didn't envenom my blade, especially since who was masquerading as me for a while."
(22:45:55) dkap: You, being there, can keep the brain alive without a problem, and possibly even fix him entire, without needing the Bacta tank, but ... such might be easier, once he is stablized.
(22:46:33) Cagliostro: hm.
(22:46:46) Cagliostro: if I could use it to get Caelin to move, I'd use the bacta tank, but judging from what Ilk said...
(22:46:54) Cagliostro: so I'll just try to get the situation fixed as quickly as possible
(22:47:18) Cagliostro: (actually, wait - are they in the castle or near the ramp?)
(22:47:29) dkap: Right then. Near the ramp.
(22:48:16) Cagliostro: ah, excellent. so try to return the situation to the status quo, which includes me not being in the room
(22:48:39) dkap: Bacta tank conjuration then?
(22:48:50) dkap: Or are you taking him (the archivist) with you?
(22:49:18) Cagliostro: can't I just fix him directly without the tank?
(22:49:23) arkhonII: Caelin is staying here.
(22:49:27) Cagliostro: I thought the tank was a crutch so I didn't have to pay attention.
(22:49:27) arkhonII: Less trouble that way.
(22:49:45) dkap: You can, but the tank is a faster way for you to return to the status quo.
(22:50:09) Cagliostro: except that it leaves this guy in the tank, which is not part of the s.q.
(22:50:12) Cagliostro: so I want him fixed quick
(22:50:21) dkap: (So you don't have to be there so long to fix him, while it would take longer in the tank, than with your direct intervention ... you have to be involved less directly)
(22:50:32) Cagliostro: I don't trust Caelin alone in a room with a bacta tank ;)
(22:50:37) dkap: Right ...
(22:50:45) Cagliostro: well, depends on the time difference. How long to fix him directly versus fix + tank?
(22:50:53) arkhonII: *snort&
(22:51:11) dkap: Direct fix, about an hour of your time.
(22:51:31) Cagliostro: I can spend an hour.
(22:51:32) dkap: Tank conjuration, about 10 minutes, plus about a day and a half in the tank.
(22:52:21) Cagliostro: I go with the direct fix it is, then.
(22:52:57) arkhonII left the room (quit: EOF from client).
(22:53:41) dkap: Right ... cue montage of clock's hands turning, and Natasha and Caelin pacing in the background as the Count heals the Archivist ... with a little imp occasionally reaching up to wipe the Count's forehead, for dramatic effect.
(22:53:43) arkhonII [~arkhon@c-66-31-35-127.hsd1.ma.comcast.net] entered the room.
(22:53:51) dkap: Right ... cue montage of clock's hands turning, and Natasha and Caelin pacing in the background as the Count heals the Archivist ... with a little imp occasionally reaching up to wipe the Count's forehead, for dramatic effect.
(22:53:59) arkhonII: What a brilliant time for a crash
(22:54:40) dkap: An hour (and a bit) later, the archivist looks up at Count Cagliostro, and opines "OW."
(22:56:06) dkap: Natasha: "Thank you, Count Cagliostro. Once again, you have been invaluable.
(22:56:13) arkhonII: "Very sorry, sir. My intended evidently did NOT get the hint that you were coming to speak to us in person, despite me conjuring the message in front of her."
(22:56:23) ***Cagliostro nods.
(22:56:44) Cagliostro: "I see that you have each learned -a- lesson from the experience. Best of luck to you all."
(22:56:49) Cagliostro: bow, leave, head back to the Ifrit
(22:57:00) dkap: Natasha bows to you as well.
(22:57:10) arkhonII: *bow*
(22:57:18) dkap: At the Ifrit:
(22:57:38) arkhonII: *sigh*
(22:58:04) arkhonII: "So, dear sir, you are feeling better, I trust?"
(22:58:13) dkap: The coffin top is lifted to show the state of the Ifrit little different from the tape. No signs of further decay.
(22:58:47) dkap: Archivist: Better, actually, than I have in a while. I do believe the pain that was slowly spreading from where the dragon crushed me has been repaired as well.
(22:58:50) Cagliostro: probably stopping for a quick cup of coffee to bring back to the lab
(22:58:54) Cagliostro: start by assessing the situation whilst sipping coffee
(22:59:16) arkhonII: "Dragon...crushed?"
(22:59:22) dkap: The head was obviously detached from the body and re-attached with little skill.
(22:59:45) dkap: Archivist: Well ... there was a bit of disagreement.
(22:59:57) arkhonII: o_O
(23:00:11) Cagliostro: well, foo.
(23:00:29) Cagliostro: scan memories, detach head, fix, re-attach correctly
(23:00:38) Cagliostro: (that is the plan, unless the memories cause it to derail)
(23:00:51) dkap: The re-attachment involved some sort of gluey substance.
(23:01:17) dkap: Traces of the same gluey substance can be found holding one of the legs on as well.
(23:01:26) Cagliostro: hm. I'll give whoever the benefit of the doubt and presume it was a high-tech healing goo that wasn't compatible
(23:01:29) Cagliostro: oh, double feh.
(23:01:31) Cagliostro: okay, head first.
(23:01:34) Cagliostro: leg second.
(23:01:39) Cagliostro: any other signs of glue?
(23:02:17) dkap: Well, there are smears of it on other bits of the body, but they seem simply where it might have dripped when the parts were being attached.
(23:02:50) dkap: Archivist: But ... that isn't important right now, since I am healthier than I was, before I came here. Thank you Natasha, for arranging for that.
(23:02:52) Cagliostro: hm.
(23:03:13) arkhonII: "Okay. Now what all did you have to share in person?"
(23:04:05) dkap: Archivist: Well ... the protocols for having someone besides the House Head show up for a Meeting, are ... complex.
(23:04:37) arkhonII: "Feh...alright.
(23:04:42) arkhonII: "then I'll go.
(23:05:08) arkhonII: "I'll go tell Cagliostro that I'm leaving this shadow. I'm sure he won't be displeased about that."
(23:05:29) dkap: Archivist: And, without the Etiquette Guild to stamp it, it becomes almost necessary for you to show up at Council to declare that you are not showing up for Council.
(23:05:52) Ilkndacian: (somewhere, Ilk thinks to himself, "what? Why doesn't anybody tell me these things?")
(23:06:47) dkap: Ilk, just because you are the one who told Caelin to stay put until you run your experiment again, doesn't necessarily mean that he is going to tell you that he's leaving the Count's shadow.
(23:07:11) dkap: Or was it that the Council expects the House Head to do the duties of the House Head unless otherwise noted by the Council?
(23:07:26) Ilkndacian: (the latter, actually)
(23:08:15) dkap: Yeah, well ... you never really wanted to be house head. That's why he's pickled, and stored somewhere, so he can be recalled at a moment's notice.
(23:08:33) dkap: On recovering memories:
(23:09:44) dkap: The memories match up to the point of sending Auricle on her way. Then there was the probing of the castle, various spells, various physical attacks until the castle jumped in the air, and landed on the Ifrit, severing the head and a leg.
(23:09:50) dkap: Nothing further in memory after that.
(23:10:34) arkhonII: Caelin doesn't think to tell Ilk, because he thinks Ilk is already here to hear it.
(23:10:38) Cagliostro: huh.
(23:10:50) Cagliostro: she really should have dodged that, shouldn't she? I mean, how fast is a castle?
(23:11:14) Cagliostro: it does explain why the protective clothing failed, though.
(23:11:55) dkap: From the memories, almost instantaneous. Especially since, she had dropped her defensive posture, and had been, for the last several minutes, contemplating her next line of probing, as opposed to all the active probing she had done before.
(23:12:02) dkap: It does.
(23:12:20) arkhonII: Head out to Cagliostro.
(23:12:25) arkhonII: Just walking.
(23:12:39) Cagliostro: huh.
(23:12:48) dkap: The castle has a very high level of Mystic Inertia.
(23:12:53) Cagliostro: write that down down as a potential defensive technique, the mobile castle.
(23:12:55) Cagliostro: oh, that would help.
(23:13:01) Cagliostro: the same castle as before in the memories?
(23:13:09) dkap: Yes.
(23:13:47) Ilkndacian: (oops)
(23:14:04) Cagliostro: okay, fix the Ifrit.
(23:14:09) dkap: Ilk, nope, the time you lifted the castle was eariler.
(23:15:03) dkap: Caelin, how are you going to find the Count?
(23:15:30) arkhonII: Find an Ifrit and tell him I need to talk to him. And I know where the Ifrit are stationed.
(23:15:39) dkap: Yes, a good plan.
(23:16:07) dkap: Much better than the though of you randomly opening doors and looking inside, which was what I was afraid your answer was going to be.
(23:18:19) dkap: Just as you are finished repairing the damage (much less damage than to the Archivist, due to the open system, inside the Ifrit, and ... well ... lower mystic inertia, and knowing the designs forward and backward.
(23:18:34) dkap: There is a knock at your door.
(23:19:09) Cagliostro: call out "Enter."
(23:19:24) dkap: Caelin, the Count has invited you in.
(23:19:27) Cagliostro: and reboot the Ifrit, if such is necessary, so I have backup.
(23:19:50) dkap: (The reboot is part of the repair process, so, yes.)
(23:20:19) Cagliostro: okay, so is she in the midst of recovering consciousness?
(23:20:21) arkhonII: Enter.
(23:20:28) arkhonII: Bow to the Count.
(23:20:34) dkap: Well ... not midst, just recovered.
(23:21:03) Cagliostro: excellent.
(23:21:11) Cagliostro: Acknowledge Caelin, then wait.
(23:21:21) arkhonII: "Count Cagliostro, I have been informed by my house second that there is a meeting to which I must attend. Could you please inform Ilk that I will be leaving this shadow?"
(23:21:37) Cagliostro: "I will endeavor to do so."
(23:21:45) arkhonII: "Thank you."
(23:21:51) arkhonII: *bow*
(23:21:53) arkhonII: And leave.
(23:22:09) Cagliostro: now I will ponder: do I have any method for contacting Ilkandacian?
(23:22:24) Cagliostro: I don't think I'm quite clear on who he is, but I think I know someone who knows him.
(23:22:36) Cagliostro: I don't know if I know thatJean knows him, though.
(23:22:41) dkap: Besides Kintani, and possibly the Jean that hangs out with him, and, occasionally, simply speaking his name out loud?
(23:22:48) Cagliostro: ah, yes, Kintani.
(23:22:55) Cagliostro: Where is Kintani?
(23:23:12) dkap: Sunning himself just to one side of the ramp, currently.
(23:23:20) arkhonII: Get back to the area of the castle I was in, meet up with House Second and Natasha, assuming they're still present.
(23:23:38) dkap: You are in the Wall, not in the Castle, but yes.
(23:23:46) dkap: They haven't gone anywhere.
(23:23:52) arkhonII: Ahh, to the wall then.
(23:24:03) dkap: You are in the Fortress of the Wall.
(23:24:08) Cagliostro: okay, I'll talk to the Ifrit first, to give Caelin a chance to clear the area first.
(23:24:09) arkhonII: right
(23:24:12) dkap: You haven't left it, that's where the Count is as well.
(23:24:21) dkap: Good good.
(23:24:30) Cagliostro: "My, that is an unusual castle."
(23:24:33) arkhonII: Well, meet up with them, open a gate to House Moonlight, and go.
(23:24:53) dkap: The Ifrit, once you are alone again, bows deeply to you, and apologizes for being so clumsy that she needs repair again so soon.
(23:25:46) dkap: And suggests that, perhaps, she is not the right choice for the exploration of the mystery presented.
(23:25:58) dkap: For twice she has failed to understand the danger to herself, and perhaps others.
(23:26:27) Cagliostro: Cagliostro ponders.
(23:27:06) dkap: Caelin, the gate opens, before the three of you go through, the Archivist holds up his hand, wings the two disks through the gate, and watches them disappear in a puff of radiant energy, and then strides through.
(23:27:13) Cagliostro: "If that is true, should you not continue with your present company, who seems to be more resilient than the norm? Better that you should learn the balance there than with frailer folk."
(23:29:14) dkap: She admits that she knows not the state of her most recent company, and believes that this investigation might be beyond all of them. There are limits to any grouping and skill-set, and she worries that this task is beyond those set out to unravel it. She is willing to keep trying, but hopes there is a better path to success that she might join, or at least, help being launched.
(23:29:50) arkhonII: Head through the gate, closing it discreetly behind us when we're all through.
(23:30:00) dkap: And, she believes that any frailer folk, would fail more rapidly, but, of course, the Count would not send those to the task knowing that their failure was almost guarenteed.
(23:30:19) dkap: Caelin: you are in front of your house.
(23:30:40) arkhonII: Walk up to the entrance of the house and enter.
(23:31:09) dkap: Caelin: There is a rumbling noise, a voice crying "Look Out", and a large boulder closing rapidly on your position. Natasha tosses something, and dives aside.
(23:31:09) Cagliostro: "Well, there will be other tasks. If you know of someone more suited, you may recommend them, otherwise you may rejoin Auricle or your companions, for Auricle does know how to request you, should that be her desire."
(23:32:10) dkap: Ifrit: Alas, I do not know of whom, beyond yourself, O Creatrix, who might be more suited to the task, otherwise I would have suggested such, giving hope to my failure.
(23:32:23) arkhonII: Dive out of the way
(23:32:48) dkap: And I do fear that my companions might have suffered a similar, or worse fate. Perhaps trying to rescue my fallen form.
(23:33:24) dkap: The archivist rolls out of the way as well.
(23:33:57) Cagliostro: "Then I request that you ascertain their condition, but you have my permission to request a withdrawal from their company, s hould you so desire."
(23:34:10) dkap: The rock, when hit by the corn-dog, explodes into flinders. Some of them hit the shield you raised earlier (and forgot to drop), and melt. The rest go off in many directions.
(23:35:01) arkhonII: Turn to House Second. "House Trantor? Or someone else?"
(23:35:02) dkap: Ifrit: Bows "I go to discover. I hope the news I bring is better than my return."
(23:35:54) dkap: Caelin: A giant approaches.
(23:36:12) dkap: Archivist: "I don't know ... it was a rock."
(23:36:39) arkhonII: "Is there a reason you threw that at us?"
(23:36:50) dkap: The Ifrit goes out of the room, to one of the public places to gate back to that location.
(23:37:03) Cagliostro: go back to whatever I was doing before.
(23:37:16) Cagliostro: reading reports for a bit, if nothing else
(23:37:21) dkap: Giant: (same voice that shouted "Look Out")
(23:37:52) dkap: I've been batting the boulders away from the house, I didn't know you were going to show up there.
(23:38:26) arkhonII: "AHa.
(23:38:30) arkhonII: *sigh*
(23:38:34) dkap: Then, runs across the lawn and hits another boulder that seemed to be coming down towards the house with his club, deliberately arcing it away from you three.
(23:39:03) arkhonII: Turn to house second. "Was this going on when you were last here?"
(23:39:18) dkap: The Archivist shouts: "How long has this been going on?"
(23:39:58) dkap: The Archivist turns to Caelin, and replies: "Not that I know of, but, he might have been doing this for a while, and I'd not noticed."
(23:41:33) dkap: The Giant: "Since Yellowsky started. I fell down here ... and then the rocks started falling, so I've been hitting them back."
(23:43:41) dkap: Did I drop?
(23:43:48) Ilkndacian: ?
(23:43:56) arkhonII: Drop what?
(23:44:00) arkhonII: No, you're fine.
(23:44:23) dkap: It is currently Yellow Sky.
(23:44:29) arkhonII: Right
(23:44:38) dkap: (I typed something, and nothing appeared, so ... I wasn't sure if I dropped or not.)
(23:45:08) dkap: Sam, I'm going to hang you there, for the next interrupt will take a bit.
(23:45:26) Cagliostro: okay, excellent
(23:45:34) Cagliostro left the room (quit: Quit: Leaving).
(23:58:37) dkap: Actually ... this might be a good place to hang, entire ...
(23:58:44) arkhonII: Okay.
(23:58:50) arkhonII left the room.
(23:58:55) Ilkndacian: I should fall over soon myself. Still recovering from cold
(23:59:04) Ilkndacian left the room.
