Conversation with #dkap_amber
(08:30:45 PM) dkap: YA!
(08:30:50 PM) dkap: Found it. *sigh*
(08:30:56 PM) dkap: There are times I hate CVS.
(08:31:31 PM) Auricle: Hi there!
(08:31:44 PM) Cagliostro: you are not alone, but it does beat no source code control at all.
(08:31:51 PM) arkhonII: What kind of world of trouble are we in when we have to depend on the mage with old lord levels of bad stuff to get irc info to the GM?
(08:32:40 PM) Cagliostro: a world where the GM doesn't sign into IM and ask...
(08:33:01 PM) Auricle: Indeed. :)
(08:33:02 PM) arkhonII: Okay...there I'm of no assistance.
(08:33:54 PM) dkap: Actually the whole IM system was kerfaffled ...
(08:34:09 PM) arkhonII: Feh.
(08:34:13 PM) Auricle: I must admit, I didn't even bother with IM.
(08:34:35 PM) dkap: Ahh ... my client does them all ... One program to rule them all, and CVS to bind them.
(08:34:39 PM) arkhonII: I just shouted out the servername downstairs.
(08:34:47 PM) arkhonII: Heh.
(08:34:47 PM) Auricle: Although I did have to go look through logs for the irc info. On the other hand, at one point I was smart enough to log it.
(08:34:52 PM) arkhonII: Gaim.
(08:35:08 PM) dkap: Of course ... someone fed my CVS server some fiber, and it was no longer binding ...
(08:37:34 PM) Auricle: ...
(08:37:36 PM) dkap: Right ... when last we left our Volkerwanderjar, Auricle, Jagers and Jean were walking onwards, towards chaos, after leaving the fort in the capable hands of the Ifrit.
(08:37:49 PM) Cagliostro: okay, gamestuff - Cagliostro wants to pass along Caelin's message to Kintani. I figure that I can have one of the Ifrit drop it off.
(08:39:23 PM) dkap: Kintani is, if I recall properly, sunning himself at the foot of the ramp, and suffering some Darkovan Sculpter to get his shape right for the rebuilding of the Dragon Tower.
(08:40:43 PM) Auricle: For the Volkerwanderjar, Auricle will begin focusing on the Walk again and shifting through Shadow, AND trying to figure out how to upgrade the Gargoyle since it needs to be able to recognize different patterns and log them.
(08:40:44 PM) Cagliostro: sounds plausible
(08:41:15 PM) dkap: Both at once? Sounds tricky.
(08:42:31 PM) Auricle: Yes, I'll probably get confused.
(08:42:41 PM) Auricle: That's the joy of travelling with Auricle.
(08:43:18 PM) dkap: *grin* Not that Jean will notice, mind you, and the Jager would not be able to tell.
(08:43:32 PM) Auricle: No, the first to notice will probably be the Gargoyle.
(08:45:09 PM) Auricle: So it's like: focus on making that plant more blue...then hmm, first I need to figure out how to actually get into the gargoyle...then those trees should be shorter....and didn't I once try to figure out someplace that had similar tech? Oh, that's not the right shade of yellow for that...
(08:46:01 PM) Auricle: Would the gargoyle want yellow markings? That might look neat.
(08:48:14 PM) Auricle: Ooh, and I wonder if any of the shrines are around?
(08:48:36 PM) Auricle: (Probably the only thing that would get it closer to Chaos is it's the most chaotic Walk style ever.)
(08:48:59 PM) dkap: Because you are thinking about it, there is a shrine just around the next corner.
(08:50:36 PM) Auricle: "Oh, cool!"
(08:50:53 PM) Auricle: Auricle stops in front of the shrine and checks it out.
(08:51:51 PM) dkap: It's ... very unassuming.
(08:52:16 PM) Auricle: "Gargoyle, what do you think?"
(08:57:03 PM) dkap: Insufficient information.
(08:58:24 PM) dkap: Count Cagliostro ... there is a messenger waiting for your attention (after the Ifrit left).
(08:58:45 PM) dkap: Gargoyle: Perhaps exploration is in order?
(08:59:24 PM) Cagliostro: provide attention to the messenger
(08:59:29 PM) Cagliostro: one of my messengers?
(08:59:32 PM) Auricle: "Agreed." Auricle goes in to the shrine to check it out.
(09:00:36 PM) dkap: Not one of your messengers, but he is carrying the remains of one of your uniforms as his pass-code.
(09:00:57 PM) Cagliostro: hm.
(09:01:06 PM) Cagliostro: meet him, and find out which uniform he has.
(09:02:06 PM) dkap: Auricle: smallish shrine, the alter is mostly nondescript, there is place for a few worshipers, and a few side nooks with heavy doors for confession. There are a pair of worshipers in there, currently talking to one of the members of the religion (did we ever name it?)
(09:02:25 PM) dkap: How do you tag your uniforms?
(09:02:28 PM) Auricle: (Wasn't it something like lovebirds?)
(09:02:41 PM) Auricle: (It had something to do with birds, let me look...)
(09:03:08 PM) dkap: Yes, that's what they worship ... but ... I don't remember the neam.
(09:03:10 PM) dkap: name even.
(09:04:06 PM) Cagliostro: there's probably a dogtag equivalent in part of the insignia
(09:04:12 PM) Cagliostro: or two, one in the boot and one on the arm
(09:04:23 PM) Cagliostro: worked into the uniform, so not obvious until you take off the patch/remove the heel
(09:05:31 PM) dkap: Then, in that case, it's Roland's.
(09:05:43 PM) Cagliostro: hm.
(09:05:46 PM) Cagliostro: what's the message?
(09:07:27 PM) Cagliostro: and what condition is the uniform in? "remains" is not a good word.
(09:09:09 PM) dkap: Well ... the most of the uniform is actually there, in the various pieces, the cuts and slashes are coated with dried blood and some other fluids, and he cautions you not to touch the white handprint about where the heart should be, were it worn.
(09:09:12 PM) Auricle: Damn, I can't find the name.
(09:09:32 PM) dkap: Me neither ... alas. I will have to look further.
(09:09:40 PM) Auricle: This is what happens when I forget to log sessions.
(09:09:44 PM) dkap: *grin*
(09:10:08 PM) dkap: It might be in the http://www.train-wreck.org/~dkap/Amber/logs/ directory.
(09:10:59 PM) Cagliostro: hm.
(09:11:03 PM) Cagliostro: I mark this as a bad sign.
(09:11:25 PM) dkap: *grin*
(09:11:40 PM) Cagliostro: so, the message?
(09:12:01 PM) dkap: He stammers at you in a language you don't know.
(09:12:13 PM) Cagliostro: hm.
(09:12:17 PM) Cagliostro: can I read his mind?
(09:12:21 PM) dkap: (or, maybe the language has lots of repeated syllables)
(09:12:38 PM) dkap: As in, dump his memory into yours, after blanking a suitable stretch?
(09:12:59 PM) Auricle: *goes to look for the name of the religion*
(09:13:02 PM) dkap: Stretch wrong word, crystal.
(09:13:13 PM) dkap: Too many conversations ... *grin*
(09:13:14 PM) Cagliostro: I already have blank stretches to put it in, but basically yes
(09:13:34 PM) Cagliostro: and I create the crystals on the fly, no reason to wipe an old one
(09:16:04 PM) dkap: His span of memory is very short. He came into being not that long ago, with the job of bringing a box filled with some body parts to you (and the you is ... interesting from his point of view) and the uniform as a way to grant passage.
(09:16:59 PM) dkap: The amount of power necessary to push him from there to here has ... some interesting echos in his makeup, which is starting to unravel. His mind is beginning to disintegrate, as his task is done.
(09:17:09 PM) Cagliostro: um. where's the box?
(09:17:12 PM) Auricle: Does not appear to be on the logs there.
(09:17:26 PM) dkap: His body seems already to begin to return to dust.
(09:17:30 PM) Cagliostro: and can I keep him stable long enough to analyze?
(09:17:37 PM) dkap: The box is outside the door.
(09:18:04 PM) dkap: You might be able to keep what remains stable, but it is already on it's way to dissalution.
(09:18:18 PM) Cagliostro: I will try to do that
(09:18:32 PM) Cagliostro: I may need to do some tracing for some whoop-ass later
(09:18:48 PM) dkap: Indeed.
(09:19:02 PM) dkap: Statis what is left? (Can you do that?)
(09:19:43 PM) Cagliostro: I was thinking more feeding power to things in a directed way to cause them to loop
(09:19:53 PM) Cagliostro: I don't do stasis or time manipulation or anything
(09:20:50 PM) dkap: Right ... then, aside of his memories (which, in fact don't include a language) there is little you can do to keep him together. (And "him" is a loose thing, as it is.)
(09:21:18 PM) Cagliostro: right. check the box.
(09:21:22 PM) Cagliostro: first, check the box for traps.
(09:21:26 PM) Cagliostro: then, check the box for body parts.
(09:23:32 PM) Auricle: brb
(09:23:54 PM) dkap: Box is one solid piece on the outside, with no indication that it didn't simply come into existence right around it's contents (whatever they may be.)
(09:24:10 PM) Cagliostro: hm. jerks.
(09:24:23 PM) Cagliostro: how real is the box? Can I deconjure one side of it?
(09:24:30 PM) Cagliostro: after conjuring a larger box wtihout a top
(09:24:34 PM) Cagliostro: around the current box
(09:26:40 PM) dkap: Yes, you can. It is _just_ within the limits of your ability.
(09:27:00 PM) Cagliostro: hmph.
(09:27:06 PM) dkap: As if someone knew you well, and didn't want anyone lesser than you mucking with it.
(09:27:38 PM) Cagliostro: that's a more charitable explanation than Cagliostro's probably.
(09:28:01 PM) dkap: *grin*
(09:28:10 PM) Cagliostro: so... what's in the box?
(09:29:36 PM) dkap: Bits of Roland, and a note.
(09:29:46 PM) Cagliostro: read note
(09:30:03 PM) Auricle: bak
(09:30:39 PM) dkap: Welcome back.
(09:31:20 PM) dkap: The note reads, "If this can be reassembled, and the Necromancer of Court Amber imposed upon, perhaps he will live again.
(09:33:29 PM) Cagliostro: close quote, or i sthere more? like a signature?
(09:34:23 PM) dkap: Oh ... no signature.
(09:34:32 PM) Cagliostro: okay.
(09:34:36 PM) Cagliostro: start rebuilding the bits
(09:34:46 PM) Cagliostro: if there's anything in there that isn't roland, put it aside
(09:35:13 PM) Cagliostro: and go ahead and let the delivery construct collapse, I think I would perfer to err on the side of that connection not being traceable
(09:35:20 PM) dkap: No, it's only a subset of Roland, nothing extra (except the box.)
(09:36:16 PM) Cagliostro: k.
(09:37:30 PM) dkap: Auricle: the Shrine empties of the worshipers, they nod politely to you, and carefully sidle around the Jager without making eye contact. One of the nods seem to have pity in it for you.
(09:39:06 PM) Auricle: Auricle nods back politely and goes up to talk to the priest. "Hi!"
(09:40:17 PM) dkap: "Welcome to the Shrine of the <Name Replace>." I am Illani. May I help you?
(09:42:24 PM) Auricle: "I hadn't seen one of these before and wanted to check it out."
(09:42:42 PM) Auricle: "What's it about?"
(09:42:58 PM) dkap: "Be Welcome in our humble abode."
(09:43:50 PM) dkap: "We all find our path to the Divine through many ways, this path follows that of the Lovebirds."
(09:44:31 PM) Auricle: "The ... lovebirds?"
(09:45:45 PM) Auricle: "You worship birds." Shrug. "Okay. Hey Jean, look, I found a temple."
(09:46:12 PM) Cagliostro: "I see."
(09:46:21 PM) Cagliostro is now known as Jean
(09:46:31 PM) Jean: do I know anything about these people?
(09:48:08 PM) dkap: Many new religions sprung up at around the time of the pattern settling down.
(09:48:53 PM) Jean: okay. So I have no idea who they are, so they'll fall into the "Don't tell them about Verra until it's too late" philosophy.
(09:49:01 PM) Jean: So I'll stick with the earlier comment and keep quiet.
(09:49:33 PM) dkap: Perhaps it was a religious event cross shadow?
(09:50:06 PM) dkap: Right.
(09:50:55 PM) Auricle: "It seems homey enough. For a temple-thing."
(09:55:48 PM) Auricle: Auricle wanders around checking it out, opening doors, etc.
(09:56:55 PM) dkap: Illani offers to help you, give you a tour.
(09:57:06 PM) Auricle: Will happily accept.
(09:57:24 PM) dkap: You tour.
(09:57:44 PM) dkap: Gargoyle reminds you of the need to continue to Floramel.
(09:58:07 PM) Auricle: "Oh, right. Florimel. Sorry, Illani, I need to go. Thank you for the tour."
(09:58:49 PM) dkap: "My pleasure. Come and visit us any time. Our doors are always open to supplicants and those interested."
(09:59:42 PM) Auricle: Auricle bows and wanders back outside.
(09:59:55 PM) dkap: Caelin, have you recovered from the cricket incident?
(10:00:03 PM) Auricle: "Religion." *shrug* "It works for some."
(10:10:12 PM) dkap: Caelin, ping?
(10:10:19 PM) arkhonII: Here.
(10:10:58 PM) dkap: Caelin, have you recovered from the cricket incident?
(10:11:30 PM) arkhonII: Cricket?
(10:11:40 PM) arkhonII: You mean, turning them all into grey spheres?
(10:11:54 PM) arkhonII: Rather, marbles...
(10:12:13 PM) arkhonII: That was some time ago, unless you refer to something else entirely that hasn't happened yet...
(10:13:38 PM) dkap: Giant, boulders, big stick, almost crushing you, your house second, and your fiancee?
(10:14:00 PM) arkhonII: yes. Boulders are the current weirdness.
(10:15:01 PM) dkap: Right ... it seems someone is bowling at him, and he is defending your house by suing his giant cricket bat to keep the boulders from impacting.
(10:15:18 PM) arkhonII: Ahh, THOSE crickets.
(10:15:20 PM) arkhonII: Feh....
(10:15:24 PM) dkap: *grin*
(10:15:31 PM) arkhonII: You, the GM, did that on PURPOSE.
(10:15:51 PM) arkhonII: But anyway...
(10:15:55 PM) dkap: *innocent look* Moi?
(10:17:03 PM) arkhonII: Turn to the Archivist and say, "Do you think we can set up a ward to repel them using bibliomancy....wait, no...that would be stupid..."
(10:17:40 PM) dkap: He replies "Yes, and Yes."
(10:26:39 PM) Auricle: YAY!
(10:27:37 PM) Auricle: Or....maybe not....
