(07:53:08 PM) dkap has changed the topic to: Game run, as normal.
(07:57:41 PM) Auricle [~chatzilla@pool-96-240-199-215.spfdma.east.verizon.net] entered the room.
(07:57:58 PM) Caelin: :waves.
(07:58:06 PM) Auricle: hello!
(07:58:13 PM) Auricle: I have shiny DSL!
(07:58:19 PM) Caelin: Woo!
(07:59:13 PM) Cagliostr1: woo
(07:59:19 PM) Cagliostr1: I have a computer that is sad
(07:59:25 PM) Caelin: Oh?
(07:59:29 PM) Caelin: Sad in what way?
(07:59:37 PM) Cagliostr1: it's not booting past 'loading sendmail'
(07:59:45 PM) Caelin: Eek!
(07:59:48 PM) Cagliostr1: it's been on its way out for a while, so I already have its replacement
(08:00:07 PM) Cagliostr1: I just need to move some cards around. so I will be back in a bit...
(08:00:36 PM) dkap: Right.
(08:00:43 PM) Caelin: *nod*
(08:00:50 PM) Auricle: okay
(08:00:56 PM) Auricle: I am painting stuff. Whee.
(08:01:05 PM) Caelin: I'm back on the right coast. Got back late last night, like a little after midnight.
(08:01:18 PM) Caelin: Plane touched down at Logan at 11:30PM.
(08:03:02 PM) Auricle: Yay being back
(08:03:07 PM) Cagliostr1 left the room (quit: Ping timeout).
(08:04:26 PM) Auricle: I am making a bajoran orb of the prophets. 'cause I'm insane
(08:04:48 PM) Caelin: Bajor for bajorans, eh?
(08:05:19 PM) Auricle: hee
(08:05:27 PM) Auricle: I'm doing a star trek craft swap.
(08:05:33 PM) dkap: Umm ... Doesn't that make you of the race that Odo is? Didn't they make the Orb?
(08:05:34 PM) Caelin: Cool!
(08:05:46 PM) dkap: Not, mind you that I remember much of it ...
(08:05:53 PM) Auricle: dkap: don't remember
(08:05:57 PM) Caelin: I don't remember if the Dominion did that.
(08:06:04 PM) Auricle: I think the wormhole aliens
(08:06:07 PM) Caelin: I'd have to look it up.
(08:06:21 PM) Caelin: Well, so long as you don't make an orb for the Pa Wraiths, all is good.
(08:06:29 PM) Auricle: Eek, no
(08:06:41 PM) Auricle: mine will have a nice electric tea light so it will glow, too
(08:06:51 PM) dkap: Most cool. LED with batteries?
(08:06:59 PM) Auricle: nod
(08:08:05 PM) Caelin: heh
(08:08:36 PM) Caelin: You realize that chez dkap might require pictures.
(08:08:56 PM) Auricle: I will post for you to see.
(08:09:07 PM) Caelin: woo!
(08:12:03 PM) Auricle: And I've got star trek playing in the background. Very star trekky over here
(08:12:53 PM) Caelin: Hee!
(08:12:57 PM) Caelin: Which trek?
(08:13:08 PM) Caelin: Ya gotta be more specific. :)
(08:13:35 PM) Auricle: Next Gen, Season Three, just finished "Yesterday's Enterprise" which I love for having a female captain of the Enterprise.
(08:13:59 PM) Caelin: Oh YES. Good episode.
(08:14:22 PM) Auricle: Oooh, and I think this next one is the first Barclay episode!
(08:14:35 PM) Caelin: AWESOME!
(08:14:55 PM) dkap: They let females be captain of the Enterprise? But ... then it would be effective! How dare they!
(08:15:04 PM) Auricle: nope, wrong, this is data's daughter episode
(08:15:24 PM) Caelin: Lau (law?)
(08:15:35 PM) Caelin: Can't remember the spelling, just the pronunciation.
(08:16:15 PM) Auricle: lal
(08:17:04 PM) Caelin: Thanks! Never would have figured it out, and it has been years since I last saw the episode.
(08:17:55 PM) Auricle: You want to talk about years since seeing something? The local theater here runs a "classic" movie night the first Friday each month at midnight -- June's is Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan
(08:18:10 PM) Caelin: WOOO!!!!!!!
(08:18:17 PM) Caelin: My favorite of all the movies!
(08:19:27 PM) dkap: KHAAAAAN!
(08:19:47 PM) Auricle: Indeed
(08:20:07 PM) Caelin: I'll chase him 'round the moons of Nivea, and 'round the Antares Maelstrom and 'round Perdicians flames before I give him up!
(08:21:11 PM) dkap: If hours seem like days ...
(08:21:56 PM) Auricle: I forgot how great Season 3 is of Next Gen
(08:23:06 PM) Cagliostro [~sgorton@c-66-30-5-155.hsd1.ma.comcast.net] entered the room.
(08:23:20 PM) Cagliostro: hm. partial progress.
(08:23:37 PM) Cagliostro: (I'm going to be playing with iptables. Don't be surprised if I vanish.)
(08:23:42 PM) Auricle: k
(08:26:00 PM) Caelin: Heh.
(08:26:05 PM) Caelin: Jeans blink in and out.
(08:26:29 PM) Auricle: No one looks surprised.
(08:27:06 PM) dkap: And somewhere, someone is trying to decypher the message being sent by the blinking of the Jeans, when, in all actuality, it is driven by the attention span, and boredom of a 5 year old.
(08:28:01 PM) Caelin: Ha!
(08:28:25 PM) Caelin: So...there was this game construction...does it run?
(08:28:31 PM) Cagliostro: it's funny cause it's true.
(08:30:04 PM) Auricle: game construct!
(08:32:09 PM) dkap: A couple of side-notes ...
(08:32:22 PM) Caelin: Uh oh...
(08:32:49 PM) Auricle: mmmm?
(08:34:19 PM) dkap: Cagliostro, there is a small ... difficulty with one of the member nations. Apparently they are currently trying to obliterate their neighbor (which they have been doing for hundreds, if not thousands of years) but, unfortunately, someone in that country seems to have gotten hold of weapons-grade magic, and has been causing entire cities to melt, apparently with star-level temperatures.
(08:34:51 PM) Caelin: *giggle*
(08:35:30 PM) Auricle: pretty
(08:35:43 PM) Cagliostro: wow, that's... debacular.
(08:36:05 PM) Cagliostro: seed both countries wtih magic eating crystals and investigate personally
(08:36:15 PM) Cagliostro: if this is another amberite playing around...
(08:36:25 PM) dkap: Caelin, there is a note handed to you at the council chambers, that reads that Zorro is currently asking permission to take on a "Quest, for Justice's sake"/
(08:37:01 PM) dkap: Cagliostro, there is one of the real folks, from your quest for them, who has a speciality with fire, if you recall ...
(08:37:02 PM) ***Caelin O_O
(08:37:27 PM) Caelin: Is the archivist nearby?
(08:37:39 PM) dkap: Right next to you.
(08:38:01 PM) Cagliostro: well, tehre are a couple.
(08:38:04 PM) Caelin: "Are there any pending tasks that might require Zorro's expertise?"
(08:38:09 PM) dkap: Auricle, no one can find you, since you have started on your journey to find your lab members, so you aren't informed of any problems.
(08:38:31 PM) Auricle: Unless Jean shares with himself, since he's with me
(08:38:34 PM) Cagliostro: yeah, I think I'll gate to Kintani
(08:38:39 PM) dkap: And Caelin, there are only two brownies left from last night, should I save them for you?
(08:38:55 PM) Cagliostro: and let him know, and ask him if Al-Nazir is accounted for, and if he is, we might have a use for him.
(08:38:57 PM) Caelin: Oh! No, thank you.
(08:39:24 PM) dkap: Kintani doesn't know where Al-Nazir is, currently.
(08:41:28 PM) Cagliostro: "Can you check? Someone is melting cities."
(08:42:07 PM) dkap: Kintani: If he is where he is supposed to be, I cannot check. If he is not, I can hunt him ...
(08:43:51 PM) Cagliostro: "Hm. Let us presume he is accounted for. Can you hunt whoever is melting cities in <name of location>"?
(08:45:25 PM) dkap: Kintani: No, for that is not a specific someone, but ... we can go there, if you wish.
(08:45:51 PM) Cagliostro: "I wish. More or less."
(08:48:53 PM) dkap: (It is one of the serbian/croation states, not quite sure of how history worked itself out there ...)
(08:49:51 PM) Cagliostro: (yeah, me neither. I'd have to check. it's probably undefined.)
(08:49:51 PM) dkap: Kintani: "Do you want to ride on top, since this is a surface swoop, or do you want to ride inside?"
(08:50:07 PM) Cagliostro: "I believe an internal mount would be prudent."
(08:50:29 PM) Cagliostro: "I trust you are fire-tolerant, for values that approximate stars?"
(08:50:36 PM) dkap: Kintani opens his mouth, swallows you, and puts you in the travel-pouch.
(08:50:50 PM) dkap: He just grins at that.
(08:52:04 PM) dkap: With a swoop, and a swoosh, he flies up the ramp, and across the lands, until arriving at what used to be a major city.
(08:52:39 PM) Caelin: Did I miss a reply to Caelin's question to his archivist?
(08:52:41 PM) dkap: There, the devastation looks like it originates at one point, not central, and spreads out from there.
(08:53:14 PM) dkap: Caelin: The archivist said "Not that I know of."
(08:53:33 PM) Cagliostr1 [~sgorton@c-66-30-5-155.hsd1.ma.comcast.net] entered the room.
(08:53:51 PM) Cagliostro: woo hoo. modprobe nat it was.
(08:54:00 PM) ***Caelin shows the Archivist the note. "Then I guess it's safe to volunteer his resources, so to speak."
(08:54:45 PM) dkap: Archivist: It is _never_ save to volunteer his services blind.
(08:56:37 PM) ***Caelin nods. True. Writes a response letter to be delivered to Zorro, asking for further details of said quest. Name of tyrant, houses involved, injustices accused thereof...etc.
(08:56:58 PM) dkap: Good good.
(08:57:08 PM) dkap: Cagliostro, did you miss anything?
(08:57:24 PM) Cagliostro: I don't think so. That secodn account is my laptop.
(08:57:42 PM) Cagliostro: of course, now I have a cat on my lap, so it's not polite to return the laptop. ;)
(08:58:00 PM) Auricle: mmmm cat!!
(08:58:11 PM) Caelin: Which cat?
(08:59:11 PM) Cagliostro: Beatrice. She's my primary lap cat.
(09:01:55 PM) Cagliostro: so we're surfing via kintani
(09:06:02 PM) Auricle: (beach boys music plays disturbingly in the background)
(09:09:32 PM) Caelin: heh
(09:09:36 PM) Cagliostro: yes, the smell of dragon in the morning. smells like... debacle.
(09:09:50 PM) Caelin: Only when Caelin is pulled in.
(09:10:32 PM) dkap: Sorry about that folks ... the phone rang.
(09:10:36 PM) dkap: Where were we?
(09:10:42 PM) Caelin: Yep. I heard you speaking on it.
(09:11:19 PM) Cagliostro: Cagliostro was flying into the Balkans via Kintani, and Caelin was being reminded that Zorro is not a toy.
(09:11:38 PM) dkap: *grin* A worthy summation.
(09:12:31 PM) ***Caelin frowns. "He was never a toy. A...misused resource, perhaps."
(09:15:23 PM) Cagliostro: he's like a very homicidal puppy. a big responsibility.
(09:16:00 PM) Caelin: A very well-intentioned and HIGH WARFARE version of The Tick
(09:16:20 PM) Auricle: (SPOOOOOOOOOON!)
(09:16:36 PM) Caelin: Henceforth, that should be Zorro's battlecry.
(09:18:03 PM) dkap: Zorro is much more connected to reality than the Tick ever was.
(09:18:20 PM) Cagliostro: the Tick is Zorro and Norton's love child.
(09:18:56 PM) dkap: I'd think that the Tick would be closer to Laetatio and Norton's love child.
(09:19:07 PM) Cagliostro: you would
(09:19:08 PM) Cagliostro: ;)
(09:19:14 PM) dkap: His only real skill is that he's bloody indestructable.
(09:19:43 PM) dkap: Whereas, any child of Zorro would have to have _some_ actual skill, and an understanding of the difference between good and oppression.
(09:20:09 PM) Caelin: LOL
(09:21:10 PM) dkap: Right ... Cagliostro and Kintani, Balklands, perhaps touches of the Slav area.
(09:21:23 PM) dkap: Blasted city. single point of entry of force.
(09:22:18 PM) dkap: Radiating outward, the building or area housing the initial moment of force is completely obliterated. (unlike the A-Bomb Dome in Hiroshima)
(09:22:40 PM) Cagliostro: any sign of the hard radiation associated with Gerard's son?
(09:22:45 PM) dkap: None.
(09:23:03 PM) dkap: Some signs of radiation, but that happens in any large explosion.
(09:23:33 PM) Cagliostro: I can probably modify my radiation eaters, but I might as well hold off for the time being and concentrate on stopping a recurrence
(09:26:23 PM) dkap: The radiation is mostly a bit of A, and some B, no G.
(09:26:47 PM) dkap: There might be some survivors.
(09:26:53 PM) dkap: The ground is still hot.
(09:27:06 PM) dkap: (I guess, "and a whole buncha IR")
(09:27:40 PM) dkap: And slightly bubbling and fusing into glass a bit at the origination point.
(09:28:00 PM) Cagliostro: hm. release whatever nanites will help survivors.
(09:28:08 PM) Cagliostro: what can Kintani determine about the origination point?
(09:28:10 PM) dkap: If you were to check with your wall-sentinal network, you would have no reports of anything falling, btw.
(09:28:18 PM) dkap: It's hot? *grin*
(09:28:34 PM) dkap: (there is enough reptile in him that he wouldn't mind curling up in it for a bit, either.)
(09:28:35 PM) Cagliostro: I was thinking with his dragon-senses
(09:29:08 PM) dkap: Yep... his dragon senses (meaning, if anything was ripped in from the outside, from the sea) finds nothing.
(09:30:06 PM) Cagliostro: hm. ward self, go outside and analyze the magic.
(09:30:16 PM) Cagliostro: as best as I can, given that omg big boom.
(09:30:55 PM) dkap: Well ... there are definitely traces of magical energy, but no actual discernible spell.
(09:31:16 PM) dkap: And not that much magical energy at that.
(09:31:39 PM) dkap: Whoever (or whatever) is doing this is good, and conservative with their power, unlike Caelin.
(09:31:50 PM) dkap: Very little more than necessary for the job, if any.
(09:32:20 PM) dkap: Do you have an EOD expert on staff?
(09:32:28 PM) dkap: (or is that amongst your skillset?)
(09:32:57 PM) dkap: Regardless, being an Alchemist, you have been around a large variety of explosions in your day.
(09:33:23 PM) dkap: And this one looks like an "all at once" rather than something setting off multiple charges.
(09:33:31 PM) dkap: Single source.
(09:34:13 PM) dkap: (the crater, while not perfectly round, due to corners and such of buildings being ever so slightly more stable than sides of buildings, is almost perfectly round)
(09:34:33 PM) Cagliostro: EOD?
(09:34:48 PM) Cagliostro: can I see any signs of gates in or out?
(09:34:52 PM) dkap: Explosive Ordenance Disposal
(09:34:59 PM) dkap: No gate that you can detect.
(09:35:11 PM) dkap: It was probably delivered, or done in person.
(09:35:59 PM) dkap: And you know that some of the Amberite family can simply "walk" away from something, and leave no trace that you can find behind.
(09:37:52 PM) Caelin: Pardon me while I wink out of existence for a sec...
(09:38:17 PM) dkap: Wink away.
(09:38:21 PM) Cagliostro: hm. hm, hm, hm.
(09:38:39 PM) Cagliostro: any sign of magic shields vs. the explosion, or would those not show up?
(09:39:40 PM) dkap: They might show up, more from areas of lesser destruction (if they were knocked down) or still standing areas (if they were not) but there is no particular sign of either case.
(09:40:06 PM) Caelin left the room (quit: Read error: Operation timed out).
(09:40:40 PM) Caelin [~arkhon@m385e36d0.tmodns.net] entered the room.
(09:40:51 PM) Cagliostro: hm.
(09:41:09 PM) Caelin: Back
(09:41:09 PM) dkap: Shall I let you think, and switch the focus to Auricle for the nonce?
(09:41:14 PM) Cagliostro: to Kintani: "I don't see any sign of who did this, which means they didn't gate in or out."
(09:41:37 PM) Cagliostro: "Who can we check with for another look - Ilkcandacian?"
(09:42:37 PM) dkap: Kintani indicates that Ilk might be able to detect Logrus, but not Pattern, nor Bibliomancy, or other powers.
(09:44:26 PM) Cagliostro: "It's a start. Who would we talk to for the others?"
(09:45:38 PM) dkap: Kintani gives you his enigmatic look, which probably means, he doesn't know.
(09:45:55 PM) dkap: Or doesn't want to say.
(09:47:17 PM) Cagliostro: indeed.
(09:47:47 PM) Cagliostro: If I don't have people working on a 'what was the current situation before H-hour', do so now.
(09:48:55 PM) dkap: Which current situation? In this particular city? In all of the (now three) treated cities? Politically? Physically?
(09:49:28 PM) Caelin: houses
(09:49:35 PM) Caelin: Oops. Wrong window.
(09:49:40 PM) dkap: S'ok.
(09:49:42 PM) dkap: *grin*
(09:49:53 PM) dkap: It fits here as well.
(09:49:59 PM) dkap: Oh Head of House.
(09:50:06 PM) Cagliostro: in all of the cities
(09:50:21 PM) Cagliostro: actually, move to second location
(09:50:35 PM) Cagliostro: what was the time gap between the three incidents? or was it one incident that affected three cities?
(09:52:14 PM) dkap: Three incidents, you were apparently told about the second, and arrived minutes after the third, according to the Red Cross and Cycle folks just arriving.
(09:52:17 PM) Cagliostr1 left the room.
(09:52:38 PM) dkap: Did Beatrice knock over the laptop?
(09:52:53 PM) Auricle: oops
(09:52:58 PM) Caelin: D'oh!
(09:53:09 PM) Cagliostro: no, she moved off my legs so I could leave the room to shut the laptop down ;)
(09:53:26 PM) dkap: Ahh ... makes sense.
(09:53:56 PM) Cagliostro: okay, then the priority is to place a very wide net looking for powerful/subtle magic use
(09:54:14 PM) Cagliostro: and I'm not terribly good at scrying, so this is going to be about as subtle as the Eye of Sauron to this guy
(09:54:16 PM) Cagliostro: but I'm OK with that
(09:55:03 PM) Cagliostro: and that might be a good inflection point over to Auricle
(09:55:18 PM) dkap: The Red Cross and Crescent folks are busy setting up tents pulled from the boxes thrown out of the over-flying airplanes, after they have parachuted down.
(09:55:43 PM) dkap: And are beginning to organize search and rescue, to find anyone who did survive the debacle.
(09:55:45 PM) Cagliostro: Cross, Crescent, and Pentacle, at least around these parts
(09:55:53 PM) dkap: True enough.
(09:56:36 PM) dkap: Most of them are either studiously ignoring the dragon, or just disbelieve so hard, that they can't see him.
(09:57:08 PM) dkap: Although, at least some are going to wonder if he (and therefore you) are not, in some way, involved in the incident ... knowing some of the legends about Dragons.
(09:58:02 PM) dkap: Meanwhile, Ethel the Aardvark, was hipity-hopping down the road ...
(09:58:32 PM) dkap: I mean, Auricle, Jean, and Jager were off to find Absalom
(09:58:35 PM) Cagliostro: hm. I'll make a note to the effect that we should be starting the propaganda campaign blaming this on an enemy of dragons somehow.
(09:58:44 PM) Auricle: (And a spark)
(10:01:01 PM) Auricle: I think we might have actually made it outside my lab in the City.
(10:01:50 PM) dkap: Right, and the spark with the nametag "Chef D" if I recall correctly.
(10:02:00 PM) Caelin left the room (quit: Ping timeout).
(10:02:00 PM) dkap: You have, it was noted as a major victory.
(10:02:52 PM) Auricle: Which neither Jean nor Auricle have noticed (the nametag, well, Jean can't read it anyways)
(10:03:16 PM) dkap: Yes, but Zorg pointed it out, when you were going to name him "Toto" if I recall correctly.
(10:04:20 PM) Auricle: His name is Chef D?
(10:04:27 PM) Auricle: That's a title and an initial, it won't do.
(10:04:28 PM) dkap: It might be.
(10:04:46 PM) dkap: Or his name might simply be "D" and chef is what he was.
(10:05:03 PM) dkap: (Much like Vampire Hunter D I guess ...)
(10:06:06 PM) Auricle: turn to the spark: "So your name is 'D'?"
(10:06:41 PM) dkap: He pauses, looks down at his labish coat, and replies, "Yeah ... I think so."
(10:08:08 PM) Auricle: "D isn't a name."
(10:08:24 PM) dkap: Unspecified Jager: Ven ve call ju, ve call ju "D"?
(10:10:04 PM) dkap: Spark: Well ... it's a designation ... I think there were some numbers attached to it at one point, but people didn't like numbers in a name, so most just called me "Dee."
(10:10:26 PM) Auricle: "Numbers?"
(10:11:25 PM) dkap: Spark: Yeah, even less like a name. *shrug*
(10:12:26 PM) Auricle: "Fine. Dee." Look around. "c'mon, first I want to check on the Reflecting pool, then we'll look for Absalom."
(10:12:50 PM) dkap: D: Right.
(10:12:59 PM) dkap: Jagers: "Race!"
(10:13:34 PM) dkap: Jean, you are already there, do you want to officiate on the race? Or let them know you beat them all?
(10:13:47 PM) Cagliostro: nah
(10:14:01 PM) Cagliostro: seems unsporting and un-old lordish
(10:14:10 PM) dkap: *grin*
(10:14:17 PM) Cagliostro: anyway, I think even Jean has enough sense not to get involved in Jager politics.
(10:14:28 PM) ***Auricle grins and starts to run.
(10:14:34 PM) Cagliostro: although the thought of getting a "Schmott Guy!" hat is tempting
(10:14:40 PM) Cagliostro is now known as Jean
(10:14:56 PM) Jean: (are you all reading Othar's adventures via twitter?)
(10:15:01 PM) dkap: The more impressive the hat, the greater the responsibility.
(10:15:17 PM) dkap: I wonder what a yarmulka would indicate?
(10:15:26 PM) dkap: Othar's Adventures? Twitter?
(10:15:39 PM) Jean: plebe.
(10:15:40 PM) dkap: Last I knew, he was dealing with The Bunny Lady.
(10:15:40 PM) Jean: eep!
(10:16:17 PM) Jean: he's in paris. someone stole the Louvre.
(10:16:18 PM) Auricle: (Yay Othar!)
(10:17:00 PM) dkap: So, what is Twitter, and how do I find this? (and what would anyone want with the Louvre? I guess, given a place to stand, and a Louvre large enough ...)
(10:17:43 PM) Jean: Othar's guess is they're holding it for ransom from the Master of Paris
(10:18:28 PM) Jean: http://twitter.com/Othar?page=17
(10:18:30 PM) Auricle: I think there is a link to it from the Girl Genius page
(10:18:38 PM) Jean: start there, read from the bottom up, and then 'newer'
(10:18:44 PM) Jean: it's like gg without the art ;)
(10:18:52 PM) Jean: but since it's Foglio, you can kind of fill it in
(10:19:04 PM) Jean: and if you have an RSS reader, you can subscribe to the latest thrilling installment
(10:19:33 PM) Auricle: afk
(10:20:26 PM) dkap: Interesting.
(10:20:29 PM) dkap: I'll take a look.
(10:20:37 PM) Auricle: bak
(10:20:42 PM) Jean: or you could run Auricle ;)
(10:20:57 PM) Auricle: Who is racing Jagers
(10:21:27 PM) dkap: Oh, I didn't mean I'd take a look _now_.
(10:21:43 PM) dkap: It will be something to do in the airport, tomorrow, waiting for my plane.
(10:22:42 PM) Jean: ah, you're flying this week.
(10:23:04 PM) Jean: my sponsors invited us to come to a meeting in DC at the same time they issued a stop work order. impressive coordination.
(10:23:38 PM) dkap: Well ... technically, if you are meeting with them, there is probably not a lot of real work being done ... *grin*
(10:24:11 PM) dkap: Typing of work, you know anyone who needs a good senior unix sysadmin at the moment? I just finished my last contract, earlier than expected.
(10:24:49 PM) dkap: Auricle, are you going to simply race in the body you have on at the moment, or are you going to use whatever means necessary to win?
(10:25:05 PM) Jean: I will keep that in mind, sure
(10:25:30 PM) Auricle: I'm willing to let some of the Jaegers win, but I don't want to necessarily lose, either.
(10:25:44 PM) Auricle: I can't imagine Auricle wouldn't shapeshift.
(10:26:02 PM) dkap: Right ... longer legs, more streamlined.
(10:26:05 PM) dkap: You come in third.
(10:26:07 PM) Caelin [~arkhon@pool-71-184-105-219.bstnma.fios.verizon.net] entered the room.
(10:26:50 PM) dkap: At the pool, what do you do?
(10:26:51 PM) Caelin: That sucked.
(10:26:58 PM) dkap: What happened?
(10:27:17 PM) Caelin: Well, I switched off to my phone, which promptly gave me issues.
(10:27:31 PM) dkap: That makes sense.
(10:27:34 PM) Caelin: And getting back onto the house network was proving troblesome.
(10:27:54 PM) dkap: Which one did you succeed at? Haven G or B?
(10:28:30 PM) Auricle: At the pool, has the reflected pattern appeared at all?
(10:28:48 PM) Caelin: B
(10:28:48 PM) Caelin: I haven't been abe to get onto G for months now.
(10:29:03 PM) dkap: Auricle, not yet.
(10:29:23 PM) dkap: Caelin, we got you on G recently (like two weeks ago, iirc) just needed to give you a fixed address.
(10:29:33 PM) dkap: Was it 192.168.1.14 if I recall?
(10:29:41 PM) dkap: And you got right on.
(10:29:54 PM) Auricle: Gargoyle: Estimated time to Reflected Pattern appearance?
(10:29:57 PM) dkap: (Because the stupid DHCP server doesn't work with Linux or Mac, only Windows)
(10:30:12 PM) dkap: Gargoyle: Too little data available to prognosticate.
(10:30:18 PM) Caelin: Yes. I still had some of the settings, which I dropped to deal with issues at various networks across the country, either in Houston two weekends ago or in Portland this past weekend. :)
(10:30:35 PM) Caelin: Meant to save them, but I was teh lazy.
(10:30:46 PM) dkap: Indeed.
(10:31:34 PM) Auricle: How about me on my own? How long do I think it has before appearing?
(10:31:46 PM) dkap: No idea.
(10:32:03 PM) dkap: Currently, the water is clear, but the bottom is unseen, so it might be starting to appear.
(10:32:57 PM) Auricle: Hmmm.
(10:33:06 PM) Auricle: And who's around the Pool?
(10:33:41 PM) dkap: Folks. Some milling, some strolling, some moving purposefully, some simply enjoying the day.
(10:33:58 PM) Auricle: Anyone I know other than Jean and SpamGerard?
(10:34:00 PM) dkap: Nobody actually _in_ the pool, though.
(10:34:11 PM) dkap: SpamGerard is not in sight.
(10:34:30 PM) dkap: And there are a number of Jager.
(10:36:02 PM) Auricle: "Okay. Off to find this Absalom person."
(10:36:48 PM) dkap: Pick a direction, and off you go!
(10:37:15 PM) dkap: BTW, the spark arrived 5th, and didn't seem to shape-shift in your view.
(10:38:02 PM) Auricle: Focus on what I know of Absalom, and off I go, with whomever follows.
(10:38:42 PM) dkap: Jean, a compliment of Jager, and the Spark.
(10:39:39 PM) Auricle: And Zorg?
(10:39:51 PM) Caelin left the room (quit: Ping timeout).
(10:41:02 PM) Auricle: didn't we have a Zorg?
(10:41:50 PM) dkap: Zorg opted not to come, something about shoring up defenses locally first.
(10:42:08 PM) Auricle: K
(10:42:30 PM) Auricle: So I start Walking.
(10:42:42 PM) dkap: Things change.
(10:43:04 PM) dkap: A road is before you, and a gate. The gate guards ask you to halt and identify yourselves.
(10:43:13 PM) dkap: The Jager look to you before doing anything.
(10:43:17 PM) Auricle: Look familiar at all?
(10:43:34 PM) Auricle: glance at Jean, just in case he knows where we are...
(10:43:53 PM) Jean: I'll walk up to the guards. "I am Jean. I require pants."
(10:44:19 PM) dkap: Not familar.
(10:44:38 PM) Auricle: "I'm Auricle."
(10:45:14 PM) dkap: The guard looks at his list, frowns for a moment, and replies "No Jean or Auricle barred from entrance, welcome to Trimerous, try the fish."
(10:45:51 PM) Jean: As Jean strides in, he will comment "Fish make lousy pants. Trust me."
(10:46:02 PM) Auricle: "Thank you!"
(10:46:08 PM) Auricle: Walk on through the gate.
(10:46:21 PM) dkap: The Jager and D come with, unbothered.
(10:47:10 PM) Caelin [~arkhon@pool-71-184-105-219.bstnma.fios.verizon.net] entered the room.
(10:47:19 PM) dkap: Welcome back, Caelin.
(10:47:24 PM) Auricle: What's this place look like?
(10:47:30 PM) Caelin: It's good to be back.
(10:47:34 PM) Caelin: Settings have been saved.
(10:48:18 PM) dkap: Gargoyle: "The list contains three names, Oberon, Mikail, and Dara."
(10:48:22 PM) dkap: YAY!
(10:49:07 PM) Auricle: "I like them already. Where-ever we are."
(10:49:31 PM) Jean: "I concur."
(10:50:30 PM) dkap: Gargoyle: "Trimerous. Originally the major supplier of Fish, Salt, and other products from the sea to Amber, had some major problems, for which Oberon ignored the treaties, and did not assist."
(10:51:18 PM) Auricle: "Oh! Then we're supposed to be strengthening ties, right? Did I remember something?"
(10:52:04 PM) Caelin left the room (quit: Ping timeout).
(10:52:04 PM) dkap: Gargoyle: "Correct"
(10:53:06 PM) Auricle: "Cool! I wonder how we do that..."
(10:53:36 PM) dkap: D: "Umm ... your pocket is talking."
(10:54:01 PM) ***Auricle slowly turns and looks at D.
(10:54:14 PM) Auricle: "You can hear it?"
(10:55:03 PM) dkap: Jager: "Ja, ve all can cheer hit."
(10:55:29 PM) Auricle: "Most people seem to think I'm talking to myself."
(10:55:33 PM) Caelin [~arkhon@pool-71-184-105-219.bstnma.fios.verizon.net] entered the room.
(10:55:44 PM) Caelin: Once more, unto the breach...
(10:56:10 PM) dkap: Gargoyle: "I presumed the information would be useful to the company at large, so I broadcast it, using a bit of your leg as the means of vibration."
(10:56:23 PM) Auricle: "Oh, that makes sense, then."
(10:57:01 PM) Auricle: "I thought everyone was going crazy!"
(10:57:58 PM) dkap: As you walk across the countryside, it does change, and you never get to try the fish ...
(10:58:37 PM) dkap: You get to a crossing of the ways, and an individual, all in black, jumps out brandishes a sword, and says "Your money or your life!"
(10:58:58 PM) Auricle: "Are you sure about that?"
(11:00:05 PM) dkap: The Jager push in front of you, one opines "Jor Lif." and starts to rip his arms off.
(11:00:32 PM) dkap: !d 100
(11:00:33 PM) ChanServ: dkap: A 35 shows on the 100-sided die.
(11:00:39 PM) dkap: It takes him 35 seconds to die.
(11:00:49 PM) Jean: I was told this game was diceless!
(11:00:49 PM) Auricle: "I really like Jaeger."
(11:00:49 PM) Caelin: *snort&
(11:00:58 PM) Auricle: Virtually diceless.
(11:01:02 PM) Auricle: apparently.
(11:01:07 PM) Caelin: How sad.
(11:01:10 PM) dkap: Well ... that was a virtual die ...
(11:02:16 PM) dkap: The Jager parcel him out, amongst themselves, the choices pieces to those who had the best hits.
(11:03:44 PM) Auricle: Excellent.
(11:03:50 PM) dkap: One of the Jager starts nibbling on the hand, and another Jager smacks him off the back of the head "Ve yust ate, dumkof." "Ja, I's forgot I's not hungry."
(11:04:04 PM) dkap: The walk continues.
(11:04:15 PM) Auricle: walk walk walk
(11:04:25 PM) Auricle: "JEan, tell me about Absalom, please?"
(11:04:31 PM) Caelin: I spy an Ilk online.
(11:04:35 PM) Caelin: Just not here.
(11:05:09 PM) dkap: You come to an open plane covered in folks in white-face, striped shirts, suspenders, and black pants.
(11:05:39 PM) Ilkndacian [~dkern@c-24-63-163-46.hsd1.ma.comcast.net] entered the room.
(11:05:48 PM) Ilkndacian: testing...
(11:05:52 PM) Caelin: Woo!
(11:05:56 PM) Auricle: I am immediately horrified by the lack of colors
(11:05:59 PM) Jean: "He's this hero guy who works for Cagliostro. He's one of Gil's kids. Smacky, and unusually sensible for an Amberite."
(11:06:27 PM) Auricle: (Hey, an Ilk!)
(11:07:15 PM) dkap: One of the Jager walk up to the nearest one, and stare at him. He seems to be indicating, with out words, that there is an invisible box around him. So the Jager pokes the box, and both the Jager, and the mime blow up.
(11:07:29 PM) Auricle: "Ack!"
(11:07:39 PM) Auricle: Is there anything left of the Jaeger?
(11:07:44 PM) dkap: (Yes, it's a mime-field)
(11:07:51 PM) dkap: Little gristled bits.
(11:07:54 PM) Caelin: AGH!!!!!!
(11:07:55 PM) Auricle: (That's....horrifying.)
(11:08:02 PM) Caelin: Bad pun BAD pun...
(11:08:04 PM) Jean: (dear.)
(11:09:07 PM) dkap: Ilk! There is a situation that Cagliostro wanted to consult with you upon.
(11:09:45 PM) Ilkndacian: okay...
(11:11:53 PM) dkap: So, Auricle, what are you doing about the situation?
(11:12:07 PM) dkap: Besides wiping bits of Jager and Mime off?
(11:12:47 PM) Auricle: I don't think I can rebuild that, there isn't enough to rebuild.
(11:13:43 PM) Auricle: "Okay, don't touch the explodey people."
(11:14:33 PM) Auricle: "C'mon, let's get out of here. They have no color sense."
(11:16:03 PM) dkap: And ... off you go, the Jager somewhat upset that they can't get revenge, somehow.
(11:16:50 PM) dkap: More wandering ensues.
(11:17:02 PM) dkap: Weather happens around you, but never, apparently, on top of you.
(11:17:51 PM) Auricle: Is the weather me, Jean, or D's affect?
(11:18:05 PM) dkap: At some point the hills around you get higher, and you are in valleys, then in caverns, then in subteranean sections of cities.
(11:18:21 PM) dkap: (The weather is the effect of the path you are walking, so most likely you.)
(11:18:34 PM) Auricle: Ahh.
(11:18:55 PM) Auricle: "I don't mind Walks, but I never know where I am."
(11:19:34 PM) dkap: Then, you are right in front of an elevator bank, with no other obvious way forward.
(11:20:15 PM) Auricle: "Um."
(11:20:29 PM) Auricle: look around, where am I now?
(11:21:04 PM) dkap: right in front of an elevator bank, with no other obvious way forward, or backward, for that matter.
(11:21:31 PM) Auricle: "I guess we talk the elevator."
(11:21:37 PM) Auricle: press all the buttons.
(11:21:46 PM) ***Jean prepares for the muzak of which all other muzak is merely shadows.
(11:21:55 PM) dkap: There is only one button, an arrow up.
(11:22:27 PM) dkap: It lights, and, after a long moment, the third door from the rightmost side opens.
(11:22:33 PM) dkap: And the button goes out.
(11:22:50 PM) Auricle: press the button again.
(11:23:00 PM) dkap: It doesn't light again, and the door remains open.
(11:23:52 PM) dkap: One of the Jager goes over, and peers inside.
(11:24:10 PM) Auricle: "Why don't I like this?
(11:24:12 PM) dkap: "Big room. Veddy empty."
(11:24:26 PM) Jean: "Because it's a trap?"
(11:25:05 PM) Auricle: "Yes, I think that sounds right. Trap."
(11:25:45 PM) dkap: Gargoyle: "Probability of a trap 81.46 percent. Probability of a trap for us 2.43866666666 percent."
(11:26:02 PM) Auricle: "We walked into someone else's trap?"
(11:26:55 PM) dkap: Gargoyle: "That is a lilkely conclusion."
(11:27:21 PM) Auricle: "Creepy. Probability of survival, then, if we trigger the trap versus I wreck this Shadow getting us out?"
(11:27:53 PM) dkap: Gargoyle to Auricle directly: "Estimated chance of survival with all our forces intact, 35% Chance of loosing more than one Jager 12%, chance of loosing another member of the party 0.00008%"
(11:28:36 PM) Auricle: "Okay."
(11:29:04 PM) Auricle: start manipulating shadow to change the elevator bank into say, a building lobby, with doors.
(11:29:14 PM) dkap: You would have to walk somewhere to do that.
(11:29:24 PM) dkap: There really is nowhere to walk.
(11:29:44 PM) Auricle: How much space is there?
(11:29:50 PM) dkap: You would need to be much more destructive to have the space to change shadow in these cramped quarters.
(11:30:00 PM) dkap: About 10x12.
(11:30:06 PM) dkap: 8 foot celing.
(11:30:13 PM) dkap: Concrete block construction.
(11:30:18 PM) dkap: Metal doors on the Elevators.
(11:30:48 PM) Auricle: And if I shrink very small?
(11:30:48 PM) dkap: No obvious reinforcements beyond that, but no indication of how far underground you are, either (even if you are underground)
(11:30:57 PM) Auricle: I should be able to walk
(11:31:11 PM) dkap: Still, not enough space really for a walk. Scenery would have to change.
(11:31:32 PM) dkap: You could effect the amount of dust, or miscelaneous trash that way, but, also, your party would not be able to follow.
(11:32:19 PM) Auricle: K
(11:33:20 PM) Auricle: Am I surrounded by elevators? or is it two banks with walls on the opposite sideS?
(11:33:37 PM) dkap: One bank, three walls.
(11:33:56 PM) dkap: 17 elevators in the bank.
(11:34:50 PM) Auricle: How real is it here? AKA, does it feel like somewhere an Amberite has been affecting?
(11:35:00 PM) Jean: so, how would Ilkandacian contact Cagliostro? Cagliostro's ping was through Kintani (and probably hence Jean), and got a bit more urgent after the initial ping.
(11:35:06 PM) Jean is now known as Cagliostro
(11:35:06 PM) dkap: Very real. You are probably on a promentory.
(11:35:18 PM) Cagliostro: (not to block what Auricle's doing)
(11:36:06 PM) Auricle: No, I'm thinking, you're good switching over if you want.
(11:36:13 PM) dkap: Ilk, the ping is about tracing the effect of some sort of heat incursion, on a solar level, in a city, on ground level, inside Cagliostro's demense.
(11:36:29 PM) Cagliostro: the earlier ping involves a white handprint, btw
(11:36:50 PM) dkap: A white handprint, exploding into a shower of white dust, in fact.
(11:37:37 PM) Ilkndacian: Okay... take a look at the solar energy
(11:38:31 PM) dkap: It looks like someone put forth about solar level of heat and pressure at a point in the city that Cagliostro and Kintani (and hence Jean) are currently in.
(11:38:51 PM) dkap: Pretty much devastating the city.
(11:39:16 PM) Ilkndacian: Does it look like one of ilk's nuke spells?
(11:39:31 PM) dkap: Nope. Not enough magical residue afterward.
(11:39:49 PM) Cagliostro: pppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppp-
(11:39:59 PM) Cagliostro: (cat on keyboard)
(11:40:09 PM) Caelin: *giggle*
(11:40:29 PM) Ilkndacian: I assume that all of the relevant folks are undamaged by the excess plasma in the area?
(11:40:37 PM) dkap: Your cat was "p"ing on your keyboard?
(11:40:54 PM) Auricle: *snicker*
(11:41:02 PM) dkap: All of the relevant folks arrived after the excess of plasma.
(11:41:36 PM) dkap: This is an investigation, not a personal attack.
(11:41:55 PM) dkap: The question, I believe, was "Were there any traces of other powers, beyond magic in the area."
(11:42:20 PM) Ilkndacian: Look around for signs of other powers.
(11:42:46 PM) dkap: No Logrus, any pattern energy (such as someone walking away) would not leave enough trail for you to notice.
(11:42:52 PM) dkap: What else do you look for?
(11:44:00 PM) dkap: The flame is not Dragon in origin, nor did it come from outside this shadow (no recent tears into the Sea).
(11:44:06 PM) Ilkndacian: Let's see... shapeshjifter poison, variable pattern, serpent power, the poisoner's power...
(11:45:38 PM) dkap: No shapeshifter poison, no pattern traces (variable or not) no serpent power detectable, no residue of the poisoners power.
(11:46:00 PM) Ilkndacian: and signs of the reality engine, fringe power, bluecite, that icky radioactive stuff, dalcontyr, g-person powder, Fear, ...
(11:46:27 PM) dkap: Of course, an equal measure of Logrus and Pattern do explode, and if they are measured just right, leave no trace of either ...
(11:47:08 PM) dkap: Reality engine is not really detectable, except in manifastations of other powers, being modified or amplified.
(11:47:19 PM) dkap: I didn't think Ilk was fringeworthy?>
(11:47:37 PM) dkap: And there are no bits of bluecite around.
(11:47:43 PM) Caelin: (Wasn't one of the Ilks Fringeworthy?)
(11:47:49 PM) Ilkndacian: nope, but if there are any fragments of fringe crystal around...
(11:47:54 PM) dkap: Cagliostro tested for the radioactive stuff, and found none if it.
(11:48:04 PM) Caelin: (Perhaps that was the Sauron-Jean, and none of those have been created in some time)
(11:48:10 PM) dkap: Dalk doesn't really have it's own power-set.
(11:48:20 PM) Auricle: I think I have reached critical brain fail, I am going to bed.
(11:48:23 PM) Auricle: Night folks!
(11:48:27 PM) Cagliostro: night, auricle
(11:48:28 PM) Caelin: Good night!
(11:48:30 PM) dkap: No white powder here, although the previous ping did mention the exploding hand.
(11:48:36 PM) dkap: Good night, Kris!
(11:48:42 PM) dkap: We'll pick it up next week.
(11:49:00 PM) Auricle left the room (quit: Quit: Chatzilla 0.9.77 [SeaMonkey 1.0.1/2006040400]).
(11:49:09 PM) dkap: Lots of fear about, but that might be from the survivors of the attack.
(11:49:58 PM) dkap: There are a few crystaline fragments around, but that might have simply been part of the city. No way to tell if they are fringe-crystal, without someone fringeworthy (like Johnny)
(11:50:39 PM) Ilkndacian: Is the heat and pressure sustained, or fading?
(11:50:52 PM) dkap: Sorry, the previous ping mentioned the exploding white hand-print, and the white-powder subesquently, and the broken Roland.
(11:51:16 PM) dkap: Mostly faded at this point, except at ground zero where there is still some bubbling and residual heat going on.
(11:51:42 PM) dkap: Blast effects look like an instant, single-point explosion.
(11:53:28 PM) dkap: Oh, and I believe that Faith (who's promontory it is) has pretty much put a moratorium on range weapons, although that is not in effect (by sufferance, and negotiation with the Count) in this part of her shadow.
(11:53:56 PM) Ilkndacian: Head out distance-wise collecting light to see what happened at T=0 time
(11:54:43 PM) dkap: You get out about as far as the top of the wall, and then the light contamination spoils everything more than seconds old.
(11:55:36 PM) dkap: This is, apparently the third such city hit.
(11:55:48 PM) dkap: In under 4 hours.
(11:56:19 PM) dkap: The Red Cross, Crescent, and Pentacle people are stretched a bit thin at this point.
(11:58:08 PM) dkap: You could try and find some living witnesses, perhaps ...
(11:58:27 PM) Ilkndacian: Spread out and keep an eye on the rest of the cities to catch the next one in progress.
(11:58:40 PM) Ilkndacian: or maybe even before it hits...
(11:59:53 PM) dkap: Much of the radio-wave spectrum traffic hitting you carries messages about the horrors of the destruction, a little bit of it is in code.
(05/21/2008 12:00:58 AM) Ilkndacian: Find the origins of the coded messages and mind-ream the senders.
(12:04:01 AM) dkap: Some of the coded messages are things being sent by the Red Cross, Crescent, and Pentacle, some by Cagliostro's folks, trying to get information to him, some from and to the various military arms both belonging to this city, and belonging to the other side of the engagement, that has been going on for hundreds of years ...
(12:04:26 AM) dkap: Are you sure you want to do that to the citizens of Caglostro's shadow without, at least, his tacit approval?
(12:05:19 AM) dkap: I mean, I expect such from Caelin, but from you Ilk?
(12:05:56 AM) Ilkndacian: "Oh, Count -- mind if I dig info out of some of your people, or should I just bring them to you?
(12:06:12 AM) ***Cagliostro looks momentarily nonplussed.
(12:06:44 AM) Cagliostro: "I doubt anyone local has any information. If you examine the magical signature on the blast, it was more powerful and more precise than any local sorcerer would be capable of."
(12:07:40 AM) Cagliostro: "I also believe that the caster left, directly before or after the blast, through nonphysical and nonmagical means. I am trying to ascertain if there were any incidents in common in the affected cities before the blast, but I believe we'd need a necromancer to talk to any eyewitnesses other than the perpretrators."
(12:08:00 AM) Cagliostro: "This has a similar feel to the son of Gerard's temper tantrum in New Amsterdam."
(12:08:33 AM) Cagliostro: "Yet, the multiple cities... I wonder if it is a challenge, more probing of our defenses similar to the last gentleman who acted in the Outer World."
(12:09:05 AM) dkap: Except that the Son of Gerard, poured forth the devastation non-instantaneously.
(12:09:15 AM) Ilkndacian: "I actually didn't bother checking out the magical signature, thinking that you had already done so."
(12:09:40 AM) Ilkndacian: Check out the magical signature -- is it familiar?
(12:09:48 AM) dkap: And all three of the cities are of the same cultural makeup, on one side of the current, ongoing non-cease-fire action.
(12:09:53 AM) Cagliostro: "I checked out the characteristics; I'm not really familiar with that many spell casters and signatures. At least, not these days."
(12:10:00 AM) dkap: Not enough magic left to check the signature.
(12:10:42 AM) dkap: There was bare whisps when Cagliostro arrived, moments after the blast, and even those have disappated by now.
(12:11:26 AM) dkap: Also, the Son of Gerard, was more interested in destroying the people, not the structures.
(12:11:42 AM) dkap: This ... this has a lot of collateral damage, but the people, well ... a lot of them survived.
(12:11:54 AM) dkap: At least, a lot of them not close to the inception point.
(12:12:24 AM) dkap: Yet another paratrooper lands, this one in Caglostro's colours, as opposed to the Red Cross, Crescent, and Pentacle.
(12:12:24 AM) Ilkndacian: Look in the Sea nearby - anybody lurking just outside of the promontory?
(12:12:50 AM) dkap: Nope, just a happy, mostly undisturbed kraken.
(12:12:51 AM) ***Cagliostro greets said individual.
(12:13:14 AM) Ilkndacian: Fail to disturb the kraken
(12:13:18 AM) dkap: (Mostly undisturbed, due to the fact that Kintani, who has been spending a lot of time there, is part dragon, part kraken, and they have made their peace, mostly.)
(12:13:55 AM) dkap: He comes over to you, hands you a packet, collapses in a heap, and after a moment, unscrews the top of his canteen and drinks.
(12:14:05 AM) dkap: He is breathing heavily.
(12:14:22 AM) dkap: His systems are stressed, but not too far out of whack.
(12:14:36 AM) Cagliostro: k. I would check, then read the packet.
(12:14:41 AM) dkap: I know ... *grin*
(12:15:17 AM) Cagliostro: I know you know. And you know that I know you know. We're a very knowing gaming group.
(12:15:26 AM) dkap: The packet includes the latest updates on what your folks know about the war, maps of the before on the destroyed cities, major individuals within the cities, etc.
(12:16:21 AM) dkap: Also a personal note, asking if your forces should be deployed to back up the Rescue forces already mobilized and in place.
(12:16:45 AM) Cagliostro: check - is there anything in common about the three ground zero points?
(12:17:04 AM) dkap: An interesting note, on all three of the maps, the building at ground zero, was the house of worship closest to the center of the city.
(12:17:07 AM) Cagliostro: and regretfully decline the offer - since the two-stage bombing is pretty common in terrorist incidents (the second stage gets the rescuers)
(12:17:15 AM) Cagliostro: hm.
(12:17:49 AM) Cagliostro: Had there been any sign of Faythe-worship recorded among the populace?
(12:18:28 AM) dkap: These particular houses of worship are, on the inside, as close to replicas as they can manage, if that makes a difference.
(12:18:43 AM) Cagliostro: replicas of each other?
(12:18:49 AM) dkap: There is some sign of Faythe worship, but not amongst these folks.
(12:19:38 AM) dkap: Well ... replicas of the "original" site of worship, that was destroyed hundreds of years ago in a fire, where all of the worshipers were boarded up, inside, first.
(12:19:46 AM) dkap: At least, allegedly, so the story goes.
(12:20:11 AM) Cagliostro: are there any other replicas of the original place?
(12:20:18 AM) Cagliostro: and who is this a worship site dedicated to?
(12:20:20 AM) dkap: Yes, all over the Balkans.
(12:20:28 AM) Cagliostro: ack.
(12:20:52 AM) dkap: One of the variants of the local religion, that is part of the on-going, armed ... discussions between the people in this region.
(12:21:11 AM) Cagliostro: this variant is purely associated with the one side?
(12:21:19 AM) dkap: Probably a mohammed decendency.
(12:21:42 AM) Cagliostro: one with issues with zorastrians, no doubt.
(12:21:50 AM) dkap: Of course. That's why there are such big ones, near the center of each of these cities.
(12:22:23 AM) Cagliostro: hm.
(12:22:49 AM) Cagliostro: "It might be a local problem, with non-weapons."
(12:22:55 AM) dkap: Also, the importance of the cities is each greater than the last, and further towards the center of the area held by one side.
(12:23:02 AM) ***Cagliostro indicates the building design
(12:23:33 AM) Cagliostro: "Can you check for odd devices at buildings that match these locations?"
(12:23:39 AM) Cagliostro: Figure out the progression, and gate there with Kintani.
(12:23:48 AM) dkap: And, interestingly enough, while any two points make a line, this is three points, and if you draw a median line, it points at the center of the biggest city on this side of the discussion.
(12:23:57 AM) Cagliostro: gate inside someplace to be a little more subtle with the dragon around
(12:24:12 AM) dkap: There are two possible cities as the next target.
(12:24:23 AM) dkap: According to your analysis.
(12:24:36 AM) Cagliostro: hm. pick one.
(12:24:41 AM) dkap: Ilk can probably be watching both at the same time.
(12:24:46 AM) Cagliostro: the one with more people.
(12:24:49 AM) Ilkndacian: Monitor energy levels at the cities indicated by Cagliostro and prepare a ground.
(12:25:49 AM) dkap: Cagliostro gates to a warehouse in the selected city, near the worship center.
(12:26:35 AM) dkap: Energy levels are somewhat frantic, as panic has set in in both (and other) cities, now that the news has gone out, but the energy is not at a destructive level beyond fear and panic.
(12:26:48 AM) Ilkndacian: k
(12:26:49 AM) Cagliostro: I want to search the center for three things: a person shielded against detection or otherwise magicky, an object with large amounts of power, and a place to stash kintani
(12:27:09 AM) dkap: There is an abandoned fork-lift unsuccessfully trying to drive through one wall of the warehouse, otherwise it is empty of people.
(12:27:25 AM) Cagliostro: I figure if it's local, these are going to be unattended bombs stashed someplace. fi it's non-local, it's someone walking from place to place.
(12:27:34 AM) Cagliostro: that's odd. turn it off.
(12:27:39 AM) Cagliostro: remotely ;)
(12:27:39 AM) dkap: Nothing large and magicy.
(12:27:48 AM) dkap: You can turn it off, no problem.
(12:27:58 AM) dkap: Apparently the driver just jumped out, and ran.
(12:28:14 AM) dkap: There is the muted sound of a radio, repeating news of the damage and devistation.
(12:28:19 AM) Ilkndacian: Search both cities for things that go boom really good.
(12:28:38 AM) dkap: Many folks are running out of the city, many others are heading to the worship centers to pray for protection.
(12:29:19 AM) dkap: There are a lot of little things that go boom, but, as to yet, nothing even vaguely near the scale necessary for the explosion sites you have seen to date.
(12:29:43 AM) Cagliostro: head to the worship center, but be prepared to shield or to gate kintani in
(12:29:49 AM) dkap: Kintani might fit in here, if you weren't here, if he coiled up tightly.
(12:30:01 AM) Cagliostro: that'll work, then
(12:30:01 AM) dkap: You might want to put up a shield first ...
(12:30:25 AM) Cagliostro: if I can do a heat-shield that won't be all flashy and obvious and won't slow me down, sure
(12:30:31 AM) dkap: You can.
(12:30:48 AM) dkap: Easily. It's a simple modification of what you already have built into your clothing.
(12:31:08 AM) Cagliostro: do so, then head to the most central worship site replica
(12:31:17 AM) Ilkndacian: Look for beings or items with a greater level of reality or power than the baseline fo rthis place in both cities.
(12:31:20 AM) Cagliostro: and try to think of analogs on the other side
(12:31:39 AM) Cagliostro: because if this is an outside force, they're probably going to strike the other side first.
(12:31:44 AM) dkap: No people stand out, yet, Ilk.
(12:31:54 AM) dkap: Other side?
(12:32:02 AM) dkap: Oh, of the discussion.
(12:32:05 AM) Cagliostro: the opposing side in this uncivil war
(12:32:43 AM) dkap: Right. Their centers of worship are very decorated, with flowing words, and tile-work, but not similar at all.
(12:33:10 AM) dkap: Often decked out, with hundreds, if not thousands of statues, of various sorts.
(12:33:26 AM) dkap: There is major crowding at the entrance to the worship center.
(12:33:52 AM) dkap: But people are ... well ... interestingly civilized, and not actively forcing their way in, just trying to get inside.
(12:34:03 AM) Cagliostro: there will be a back door, and I can probably flash some ID and get in there.
(12:34:33 AM) Cagliostro: if I can figure out analagous cities, I'll ask Ilk to check them out for suspicious devices
(12:35:06 AM) dkap: Well ... there is a secret tunnel entrance, and you knowing about it gets you in automatically (which explains how the religion managed to spread, even though theoretically all the worshipers were burned alive within ...
(12:35:47 AM) dkap: Your people supplied you with _good_ blueprints. *grin*
(12:35:54 AM) Cagliostro: sure, that sounds nice and traditional.
(12:36:07 AM) Cagliostro: 'om mani padme bactine' and all that
(12:36:38 AM) Caelin: .oO(A new spell incant?)
(12:37:10 AM) dkap: You get in, and start scanning the crowd, about 10 minutes in, Ilk, there is a disturbance in the reality of the place, and someone just walked in, sideways, using pattern.
(12:38:05 AM) dkap: He is apparently concentrating very hard on using as little power as possible, as if husbanding what little power he has left.
(12:38:11 AM) dkap: It is old Dworkin Pattern.
(12:38:24 AM) dkap: He looks a bit like Bleys.
(12:38:27 AM) Ilkndacian: warn Cagliostro
(12:38:37 AM) dkap: But a stronger chin, and ... somehow, younger.
(12:38:42 AM) Ilkndacian: Get ready to soul-yoink.
(12:38:54 AM) Ilkndacian: Mikail, perhaps?
(12:39:04 AM) dkap: Younger than Mikail.
(12:39:09 AM) Ilkndacian: Any of his pet demons around?
(12:39:12 AM) dkap: He looks like a teenager, in fact.
(12:39:14 AM) Cagliostro: do I know where he is?
(12:39:22 AM) dkap: No demons at all.
(12:39:33 AM) dkap: Ilk, do you point him out to the Count?
(12:39:35 AM) Ilkndacian: Is this new guy in one of the target cities or the non-target cities?
(12:39:46 AM) dkap: He's in the same room as the Count.
(12:39:47 AM) Ilkndacian: That's what the "warn cagliostro" part was.
(12:39:56 AM) dkap: Right. Yes, you know which fellow he is.
(12:40:01 AM) Cagliostro: blind him.
(12:40:06 AM) dkap: He looks dressed just like the rest of them.
(12:40:10 AM) Cagliostro: quickly, effeciently, and permanently.
(12:40:14 AM) Ilkndacian: Get ready to serpent-grab him and bind him in variable pattern
(12:40:50 AM) Cagliostro: if I have to warfare monster to do it, I will. if I can do it with the Tall Man technique (conjure and jab), I will. Pick the technique most likely to succeed.
(12:40:51 AM) dkap: He feels pressure against his shields, drops the package he is carrying, and dissapears, in a puff of pattern.
(12:40:53 AM) Ilkndacian: err - contain any boom in variable pattern, not the guy himself
(12:41:19 AM) Ilkndacian: kick the package into the Sea, and attempt to grab the kid's soul
(12:41:21 AM) dkap: The package is wrapped in some small magic, that is rapidly decaying.
(12:41:39 AM) Cagliostro: Open a gate to Kintani. "There is someone here for you to hunt."
(12:41:46 AM) dkap: The kid is gone, possibly killed by the logrus touch on his pattern, possibly on fire somewhere ...
(12:41:51 AM) Cagliostro: I figure the package is gone before it hits the ground, from Cagliostro's perspective.
(12:42:17 AM) dkap: The package hits the kraken, and explodes, the leaf shivers a bit, but no other damage.
(12:42:28 AM) Ilkndacian: good, good.
(12:43:06 AM) dkap: No one else seems to notice anything out of the ordinary, except the people looking strangely at how Cagliostro is dressed.
(12:43:09 AM) Ilkndacian: Search this promontory for that person, then search Chaos, then Shadow
(12:43:38 AM) dkap: You didn't quite get enough of a marker, and ... well ... the thing you can search on, is his pattern, which, with the logrus, you can't search on.
(12:44:06 AM) dkap: But you can put out a net, or grid of tendrils that can cover this shadow, and let you know if he is anywhere here ...
(12:44:47 AM) Ilkndacian: I was thinking of the PMD approach to searching for traps... fan out tendrils and Logrus across the area, and look for things that catch on fire.
(12:44:50 AM) dkap: Mostly by catching anything that you don't already know is pattern-covered (Faythe's stuff) on fire ... *grin*
(12:44:59 AM) Cagliostro: if I can provide enough information for Kintani (including a pointer to where he stepped, or a picture), we'll hunt him
(12:45:01 AM) dkap: Exactly.
(12:45:16 AM) Cagliostro: I think a good dragon-driveby that doesn't result in a sun will help draconic PR
(12:45:17 AM) Ilkndacian: Don't light Faythe's stuff or the Count's stuff on fire... ditto any known amberites in the area
(12:45:59 AM) dkap: Not quite enough for Kintani to hunt, but, after a moment or two, you get a hit, in one of the deep command bunkers of the other side of this little dispute.
(12:46:06 AM) dkap: (the you is Ilk, sorry)
(12:46:16 AM) Cagliostro: I guessed. ;)
(12:46:37 AM) Ilkndacian: Point out the new bunker to Cagliostro
(12:46:37 AM) dkap: He screams, and then pops away again.
(12:46:59 AM) dkap: He wasn't here long enough for you to do more than notice him, but ... notice him you did.
(12:47:00 AM) Ilkndacian: This game is fun. :)
(12:47:03 AM) Cagliostro: Gate kintani into the bunker.
(12:47:09 AM) Cagliostro: that should be fun for someone. ;)
(12:47:14 AM) Ilkndacian: Repeat the process.
(12:47:15 AM) Cagliostro: I'll have to go with him so he'll fit, but I can do that.
(12:47:46 AM) dkap: You know about the bunker (it was in your briefing) it is one of the command centers of the other side.
(12:48:01 AM) dkap: It is a weapons development bunker.
(12:48:03 AM) Ilkndacian: Ramp up the amount of Logrus power being used to cause his pattern-teleport to leave a blazing trail across the skies.
(12:48:19 AM) dkap: You and Kintani arrive, a few heart-beats after he has disappeared.
(12:49:03 AM) dkap: It's not a pattern teleport, as much as a well-walked Amber-Way.
(12:49:15 AM) dkap: But, yes, you can put that much power into the area.
(12:49:27 AM) Cagliostro: use knockout gas in the bunker, then start copying people's memories.
(12:49:33 AM) Ilkndacian: Follow the blazing trail.
(12:50:17 AM) dkap: There is a number of high-ranked officials, in the bunker, many of whom were recently enjoying celbratory activities.
(12:50:45 AM) dkap: There is a young lady, locked in a small room, who also resembles Bleys no little bit.
(12:50:48 AM) Ilkndacian: If these people want a religious experience, give thjem one
(12:51:06 AM) dkap: She is currently on fire, due to Ilk's ramping up of logrus, and screaming abysmally.
(12:51:38 AM) dkap: The bodies in the command center start incinerating, from the heat of the residual pattern and logrus combination.
(12:51:59 AM) Cagliostro: try to keep them alive so I can grab their memories
(12:52:15 AM) dkap: You can do that, the are burning, melting, but alive.
(12:52:21 AM) Cagliostro: don't expend a lot of effort worrying about blocking pain receptors
(12:52:35 AM) dkap: You are popping crystals as fast as you can, not bothering to scan them, as you pop them.
(12:52:36 AM) Cagliostro: Ideally, I'd like them to last like this for about a week
(12:52:41 AM) Cagliostro: so keep that in mind ;)
(12:53:03 AM) Cagliostro: this will probably involve a steady-state heal and then time-release poison capsules.
(12:53:18 AM) Ilkndacian: If I notice what Cagliostro is doing, staple their souls into their bodies so no matter how badly their bodies are damaged, they will remain alive and aware.
(12:53:24 AM) dkap: You might have to arrange for some sustinance if you want them to last a week.
(12:53:48 AM) dkap: You do notice, because otherwise, they would have stopped screaming by now.
(12:54:35 AM) Cagliostro: as long as I can set things up so that other people can feed and water them to keep them alive, that's good enough for me
(12:55:10 AM) ***Cagliostro sighs, already resigned to faking his own death, so he might as well get flashy.
(12:55:16 AM) dkap: Well ... you could arrange for other people to come in, but if they actually leave the site of the conflageration, they might not keep burning.
(12:55:40 AM) Cagliostro: right, no.
(12:55:43 AM) Cagliostro: but they'd be melted.
(12:55:47 AM) Cagliostro: and still in horrible pain.
(12:55:50 AM) Ilkndacian: Have I noticed anybody else catching on fire in this promontory?
(12:55:56 AM) Cagliostro: it only works as a cautionary tale if people see it.
(12:56:02 AM) dkap: I don't believe that they have noticed you. Between being on fire, and the dragon, another person in the room is just ... not all that remarkable.
(12:56:27 AM) dkap: Yes, you noticed the girl, in chains, locked in the room.
(12:56:28 AM) Cagliostro: I figure the fire will ramp down at some point.
(12:56:39 AM) Cagliostro: hm. protect her from fire.
(12:56:48 AM) Cagliostro: enemy of my enemy at least deserves a shot.
(12:56:58 AM) dkap: It will only ramp down, if Ilk stops pouring logrus into it, or the Amber-Way actually burns out (which is much less likely)
(12:57:11 AM) Cagliostro: protect, free, heal. and what do I know from amber way?
(12:57:16 AM) dkap: Actually, Cagliostro, you haven't noticed, her, just Ilk.
(12:57:32 AM) Cagliostro: ah, you need to be more careful with your pronouns. ;)
(12:57:37 AM) dkap: Indeed, sorry.
(12:57:37 AM) Cagliostro: grab memories, keep jerks alive.
(12:57:51 AM) Ilkndacian: "Count - looks like another red-head in the back room"
(12:57:59 AM) Ilkndacian: (soul-staple her, too)
(12:58:07 AM) dkap: You can't grab her soul.
(12:58:10 AM) dkap: It's tied to the Jewel.
(12:58:19 AM) dkap: But she's not dead yet.
(12:58:52 AM) Cagliostro: stride over to the back room as a spirit of furious vengeance, then belatedly realize she's in chains and on fire.
(12:59:00 AM) dkap: And the pattern in her, is also the old Dworkin pattern.
(12:59:17 AM) Cagliostro: "Oh, um... can we not set this one on fire? She's in their headquarters, in chains. That's either kinky or a prisoner, and we should give her the benefit of the doubt."
(12:59:39 AM) Ilkndacian: Okay, create a pocket in the logrus-storm for the girl in chains
(12:59:43 AM) dkap: Well ... not so much a back room, as down a bunch of stairs, passed a bunch of prison cells, to a small dark corner, with a solid door, with only a small slot in it, but ... yes.
(01:00:11 AM) dkap: She gasps with relief, and bursts into tears.
(01:00:23 AM) Ilkndacian: Has the original guy turned up wrapped in flames yet, or am I not getting any other hits in this promontory?
(01:00:24 AM) Cagliostro: is the door slash room trapped?
(01:00:33 AM) dkap: She looks even younger than the young man, might not even have hit puberty yet.
(01:00:57 AM) dkap: You are not getting any other unexpected hits on this promentory as to yet.
(01:01:18 AM) dkap: The door is well-locked (actually welded shut) but no traps that you can detect.
(01:01:47 AM) Cagliostro: hm. just open a gate to the other side.
(01:01:54 AM) dkap: Not a problem.
(01:02:13 AM) Ilkndacian: Okay, check Chaos for any unexpected hits on Pattern, then move into Shadow.
(01:02:27 AM) dkap: There is a magical dampening field on the other side, it might dampen the magic produced by the young man you saw, but it is no match for your experetise.
(01:02:31 AM) Ilkndacian: (keep the storm going in Darkover, just in case he comes back)
(01:02:42 AM) Cagliostro: "I am the Count Cagliostro. You are the prisoner of my enemy. I give you your freedom, and request your assistance."
(01:02:52 AM) dkap: No extra-ordinary notices on your spot-checks.
(01:02:57 AM) Cagliostro: remove the chains in some tasteful but slightly flashy magic-geek manner
(01:03:08 AM) dkap: Point, spark, and they drop off?
(01:03:46 AM) dkap: She is crying softly, and rubbing the parts of her body chained (neck, wrists, waist, ankles ...)
(01:03:52 AM) Cagliostro: sounds reasonable.
(01:04:19 AM) Cagliostro: offer a hand to help her out of the room, and take a baseline and provide some healing if she accepts it
(01:04:42 AM) dkap: "I'm Belle. My brother might be around here somewhere."
(01:04:42 AM) Cagliostro: (do I have the memories of everyone in the room?)
(01:05:07 AM) dkap: You have the memories of everyone in the bunker by now. You are carrying on the order of 75 crystals.
(01:05:15 AM) Cagliostro: k.
(01:05:18 AM) dkap: For some reason, though, you can't seem to get her memories.
(01:05:29 AM) Cagliostro: create a picture of the other person. "Perhaps so. Is this him?"
(01:05:37 AM) Cagliostro: prepare to control facial reaction if she concurs
(01:05:38 AM) dkap: She sniffs and nods.
(01:05:53 AM) Cagliostro: "He is not currently present, although I believe he has been here."
(01:06:25 AM) dkap: Belle: "They used me to force him to work for them."
(01:06:50 AM) Cagliostro: hm. this is pretty elaborate for a ruse.
(01:06:57 AM) Cagliostro: "How did they capture you?"
(01:07:05 AM) ***Cagliostro tries to determine if she is lying.
(01:07:17 AM) dkap: Belle: And then, they told me he was dead. But I know he is alive! I know it! I can feel it in my heart.
(01:07:55 AM) dkap: She might be lying, but ... it's not likely. Her normal tells would be covered by recently being in chains, very emotional, and being on fire.
(01:08:27 AM) Cagliostro: hm.
(01:08:35 AM) Cagliostro: "I believe you are correct, and that he is alive."
(01:08:42 AM) dkap: Belle: Well ... Mom was hiding us, because our hair is the colour of witches, and just wouldn't stay dyed.
(01:08:42 AM) Cagliostro: is Kintani with me?
(01:09:04 AM) dkap: Belle: But one day, the soldiers came, they killed her in front of us, and took us away.
(01:09:38 AM) dkap: Kintani is currently exploring the structure of the place, looking for any hidden bits, and randomly terrorizing anyone not alive, and chasing them into the burning room.
(01:09:59 AM) Cagliostro: (yay, Kintani)
(01:10:05 AM) Cagliostro: "Where was this?"
(01:10:10 AM) Caelin: My brain power just decreased by half. N
(01:10:14 AM) Caelin: Night folks.
(01:10:18 AM) Caelin left the room.
(01:10:19 AM) dkap: Good night!
(01:10:25 AM) dkap: Damn, not quite fast enouhg.
(01:10:28 AM) dkap: enough even.
(01:11:08 AM) dkap: In our village (and gives you an appropriate village name, a little hamlet of a place, not too far outside one of the major cities, on this side of the engagement.
(01:11:47 AM) Ilkndacian: Continue sweeping a wave of Logrus energy across Shadow in search of unexpected hits.
(01:11:50 AM) dkap: Sorry, that was Belle, giving Cagliostro the information, in case that wasn't clear.
(01:11:52 AM) Cagliostro: "Your brother is quite skilled at magic. How did he learn?"
(01:12:00 AM) Cagliostro: (I got it.)
(01:12:12 AM) dkap: Belle: Whenever Dad was around, he taught us.
(01:12:25 AM) dkap: He gave us some of his blood, so we would be strong
(01:13:18 AM) dkap: Belle: But he was home so seldom. I don't think Mom liked him very much, and I'm sure she did not approve of him teaching us.
(01:14:03 AM) dkap: Belle: All I can do is protect my body, but my brother was better, he could actually do things.
(01:14:21 AM) ***Cagliostro hms.
(01:14:33 AM) Cagliostro: "That power comes with certain responsibilities."
(01:15:04 AM) dkap: Belle: And I don't know if too much time has passed for me to make an offering for Mom's death ... I've not seen the sun in days.
(01:15:20 AM) ***Cagliostro tells her what day it is.
(01:15:28 AM) dkap: Belle: That's what Mom always said.
(01:15:37 AM) dkap: Belle bursts out crying anew.
(01:16:13 AM) dkap: Belle: It's been more than a week. Now Mom can't get into (their religion's equivalent of heaven).
(01:16:40 AM) Cagliostro: "A wise woman. Wiser than many of your father's line. I am sorry for her loss."
(01:17:08 AM) dkap: Belle: I miss her.
(01:17:11 AM) Cagliostro: I think that's as far as Cagliostro's willing to go, there.
(01:17:38 AM) Cagliostro: (I am presuming that Cagliostro spotted the Amberite look, which is like the Innsmouth look with extra arrogance)
(01:17:44 AM) Cagliostro: has Kintani searched the place?
(01:18:41 AM) dkap: He's still herding folks. Oh, and he did take the time to address the exit door, such that none of the mechanisms will work, anymore, so you will have to gate out.
(01:19:34 AM) Cagliostro: excellent.
(01:19:58 AM) dkap: Well ... if not the amberite look, the fact that she has pattern in her puts her in that class, and Ilk told you that she has pattern in her.
(01:20:11 AM) Cagliostro: I think the plan is to gate her to an Ifrit babysitter/monitor/confidant, whilst assuring her that we will try to find her brother.
(01:20:26 AM) Cagliostro: then after we sort this place out, Kintani and I are going to hunt his ass.
(01:20:51 AM) Cagliostro: and after he's sorted out, I'm probably going to kill every person that the non-amberites in this bunker ever cared for.
(01:21:04 AM) Cagliostro: this shit is getting out of hand. gotta make an example. ;)
(01:22:31 AM) Cagliostro: shall we wrap?
(01:22:50 AM) dkap: Sounds like, a plan, and a plan.
(01:22:57 AM) dkap: Ilk, any further actions?
(01:24:00 AM) Ilkndacian: Still looking for the kid.
(01:24:17 AM) Ilkndacian: By now I should have finished Darkover and Chaos and be sweeping over Shadow.
(01:24:32 AM) dkap: Right, and in a moment, Kintani and Cagliostro are going to join in your efforts.
(01:25:00 AM) dkap: Well ... the Atoll and Chaos are hard, because there is a lot of Amberite contamination there currently.
(01:25:18 AM) dkap: So, instead of blanketing them, you have to actually search.
(01:26:32 AM) Cagliostro: night!
(01:26:33 AM) Cagliostro left the room (quit: Quit: Leaving.).
(01:27:35 AM) Ilkndacian: later
(01:27:38 AM) Ilkndacian left the room.
