(08:39:27 PM) The topic for #dkap_amber is: Game as usual, logs at https://www.train-wreck.org/~dkap/Amber/logs wiki-wiki at: https://www.rebel.org/wiki/
(08:39:53 PM) Caelin: HA!
(08:40:07 PM) Caelin: Wow, precisely at 10 minutes.
(08:40:26 PM) Caelin: We have GM sign.
(08:40:58 PM) mode (+o dkap) by ChanServ
(08:41:23 PM) dkap: Yeah ... sorry about that ... had to deal with a delivery that was due at 6:30 ...
(08:41:30 PM) Caelin: Eep
(08:43:51 PM) dkap: but ... all better now. The library project goes apace.
(08:51:16 PM) dkap: Ok .. I should warn folks that, due to mushroom poisoning, the GM might disappear suddenly for a brief stretch with no notice.
(08:51:35 PM) dkap: But, that aside. Where did we leave off?
(08:51:50 PM) dkap: I believe Jean was galavanting with Chef D.
(08:52:03 PM) dkap: Auricle had gotten herself lost in Shadow again.
(08:52:16 PM) Auricle: Yup! With Rangers!
(08:52:18 PM) dkap: (Well ... not really lost, just seeking Zach.
(08:52:45 PM) dkap: And Caelin? Caelin was setting up for a Major Conflict.
(08:52:46 PM) Caelin: Caelin had just negotiated with Benedict.
(08:52:54 PM) Caelin: Yes.
(08:52:59 PM) Caelin: *sigh*
(08:53:48 PM) dkap: So ... door number 1, door number 2, or what's in this box here?
(08:54:11 PM) Cagliostro: probably not this: http://www.latimes.com/media/photo/2009-02/44838411.jpg
(08:54:30 PM) Caelin: Dude, impressive!
(08:54:49 PM) Caelin: He should be quite well protected...if he survived the freezing process, that is...
(08:55:51 PM) dkap: Hurray for Captain Solo, the African Explorer.
(08:55:58 PM) Caelin: LOL
(08:56:31 PM) dkap: I miss the Marx brothers.
(08:56:39 PM) Caelin: Heh
(08:57:33 PM) dkap: So ... which path first?
(08:58:18 PM) ***Caelin 's player is actually afraid of his path. "Asps...very dangerous. You go first."
(08:58:21 PM) Cagliostro: pick yer poison.
(08:58:43 PM) Cagliostro: I think Jean is loitering around and pondering the grass, and wondering if anyone else is showing up.
(08:58:43 PM) dkap: Sounds good, How about Auricle, the Rangers, and the Zach?
(08:58:49 PM) Cagliostro: that sounds like a plan.
(08:59:04 PM) dkap: Because, well ... Zach keeps a Jean or two to hand ...
(09:00:42 PM) dkap: So, Auricle the Aardvark was hippity-hopping down the surveyers path.
(09:01:05 PM) dkap: Wait, no, wrong page.
(09:01:14 PM) Caelin: o_O
(09:01:28 PM) dkap: Apparently my brain is on random access tonight.
(09:02:34 PM) dkap: No shit, there they were, heading across the forest Arden, in the company of the highest ranked Ranger in the group that you met, when appearing in their midst.
(09:02:52 PM) dkap: Conversation about the "telepathic" rangers ensued.
(09:06:18 PM) ***dkap gently reaches out and pokes Auricle
(09:07:55 PM) ***dkap goes on hold for a minute.
(09:12:02 PM) dkap: Sorry about that.
(09:14:24 PM) Cagliostro: perhaps is best to start elsewhere, until Auricle returns.
(09:14:35 PM) dkap: OK ...apparently Auricle is off the hook.
(09:14:43 PM) dkap: Then ... Caelin.
(09:14:47 PM) Caelin: Okay
(09:14:48 PM) Caelin: Here
(09:15:18 PM) Caelin: Benedict has accepted the challenge and seems to be setting up.
(09:15:22 PM) dkap: Benedict and you just began negotiations, correct?
(09:15:31 PM) dkap: Indeed, my memory of it, as well.
(09:16:11 PM) ***Caelin had...nothing to add about his "enemy". But that's not any different from normal. ;-)
(09:16:50 PM) dkap: Did you want to mention that Laetatio might.
(09:17:04 PM) Caelin: "Hrm...I thought I had."
(09:17:10 PM) Caelin: Oh wait. Nope.
(09:17:21 PM) ***Caelin waves to Benedict.
(09:17:27 PM) dkap: Something about waiting until the goo was gone?
(09:17:37 PM) dkap: Now that Zorro is off to find the folks who know more about the goo?
(09:17:55 PM) Caelin: Yes. But Benedict can still TALK to him...just from a distance.
(09:19:05 PM) dkap: True, but ... would Benedict, especially after Laetatio explains how he got into that predicament in the first place?
(09:19:20 PM) dkap: This is your Father's honor we are talking about, here ...
(09:19:25 PM) dkap: And a house member's.
(09:19:35 PM) ***Caelin smiles.
(09:20:09 PM) Caelin: Well, I'll inform him that he is available, though 'indisposed'.
(09:20:41 PM) Caelin: And to make sure he keeps his distance.
(09:20:50 PM) Caelin: Should he try to consult with him in person.
(09:21:14 PM) dkap: Benedict makes a note of it.
(09:21:25 PM) dkap: And the phalanx of Ifrit begin deploying.
(09:21:52 PM) Auricle: (Sorry....Greg needed a ride)
(09:22:01 PM) Caelin: Heh
(09:23:38 PM) dkap: The Ifrit begin to asses, on their own, the defenses of the house, and, once they have come up with an assessment (in lyric poetry, no less) they present such to Benedict, for critique.
(09:23:56 PM) dkap: It seems, that they have found a wonderful instructor, who is more than willing to hone their battle-craft.
(09:24:01 PM) ***Caelin shakes his head in awe.
(09:26:07 PM) dkap: One of the Ifrit quietly moves up to you, and begins to shadow you.
(09:26:37 PM) ***Caelin looks at the Ifrit. "Bodyguard?"
(09:28:16 PM) dkap: The Ifrit bows, apprentice of family member to family member, and says: "My eyes serve to see, my ears, to hear, I but relay, to warn those dear, of what befalls, so the right can be called."
(09:31:50 PM) dkap: One of the other Ifrit come to you and ask: "Are there those, whos path should also be among the ones we know?"
(09:33:16 PM) Caelin: "There is another who knows they who come, but is yet indisposed, but if you chose to speak with him, it would relax me some."
(09:34:22 PM) dkap: The Ifrit bows the same bow, and replies: "To him you should lead, so, from his mind, I can gather the seeds."
(09:35:24 PM) dkap: (Wow, I've forgotten how hard it is to get back into the Ifrit mindset ... *sigh*)
(09:36:02 PM) ***Caelin leads the Ifrit down to the laboratory door.
(09:36:52 PM) Caelin: "Caution here, for he is trapped. Do not touch."
(09:37:22 PM) ***Caelin opens the door and peers in, hoping Laetatio's status hasn't changed...
(09:37:24 PM) dkap: As you are heading down there, Anise asks if you've seen Zorro's Boy, who seems to have disappeared again.
(09:38:19 PM) ***Caelin dadpans at Anise..."He's disappeared again?"
(09:38:48 PM) Caelin: "I would check with my fiancee, as he was sighted there last, if memory serves."
(09:39:10 PM) dkap: Anise: "Yes, he was in the room with us, guestured importantly, and ran out, and now, no one seems to know where he is.
(09:39:21 PM) dkap: Anise: Natasha and I were in the room together.
(09:40:00 PM) ***Caelin sighs.
(09:40:42 PM) Caelin: "I may send Don Serioli out to find him then if he doesn't turn up shortly."
(09:40:53 PM) dkap: Anise: We are both hunting through the house for him.
(09:41:18 PM) Caelin: "You and Natasha?"
(09:42:02 PM) ***Caelin furrows his brow. "I wonder...if he isn't back in Zorro's lab..."
(09:42:26 PM) dkap: Anise: I checked there first.
(09:42:44 PM) dkap: Anise: Natasha started with the Wedding Party rooms
(09:47:05 PM) dkap: Anise is going back to searching.
(09:47:14 PM) dkap: Leaving you to lead the two Ifrit down to the lab.
(09:48:20 PM) dkap: Upon reaching the lab, you find destruction amock
(09:48:34 PM) ***Caelin sighs. "WHat is it, now?"
(09:49:03 PM) ***Caelin cautions the Ifrit further, holding them at the door, and peers in.
(09:49:05 PM) dkap: There is no Laetatio, no green blob.
(09:49:34 PM) dkap: Lab benches are turned over, and there is a trail of destruction leading toward the stables.
(09:50:38 PM) Caelin: "huh."
(09:50:50 PM) Caelin: "He's gone!"
(09:51:15 PM) Caelin: "The blob is gone, but he's gone too! We should inform the leader, now!"
(09:51:31 PM) dkap: Ifrit: "Does this mean hostilities have started ahead of schedule?"
(09:51:44 PM) Caelin: "It may indeed, BUT..."
(09:52:03 PM) Caelin: "THis is also my father of which we speak."
(09:52:14 PM) Caelin: "Anything is possible."
(09:52:37 PM) dkap: Ifrit: "Your father?" A delicate shudder runs through his body.
(09:52:43 PM) Caelin: "Though he WAS instructed to remain here."
(09:53:19 PM) dkap: Ifrit: "Which means, if he holds true to the family traditions, he should be found anywhere _but_ here."
(09:53:46 PM) ***Caelin hangs his head in shame. "I can't disagree."
(09:55:29 PM) dkap: Anise did not mention wreakage in the lab, so, the chances are, it's very recent.
(09:55:37 PM) dkap: It's something she would have probably mentioned.
(09:56:15 PM) Caelin: "Inform the commander now."
(09:56:20 PM) Caelin: "If you haven't already."
(09:56:30 PM) dkap: Ifrit: He is aware.
(09:58:17 PM) Caelin: "Thank you."
(09:58:18 PM) dkap: Ifrit: Do we have a destination for the path of wreakage?
(09:59:09 PM) Caelin: "Not that I could determine without tracking him.
(09:59:45 PM) dkap: Ifrit: So, tracking him is the next order of business.
(10:00:33 PM) Caelin: "Should I? I should think it's risky if it is to the enemy...but if Benedict recommends..."
(10:01:22 PM) dkap: Ifrit: I go first, at your pointing and guidance, though.
(10:02:01 PM) Caelin: "Very well. Good idea."
(10:02:13 PM) Caelin: "Perhaps I should don a disguise?"
(10:02:50 PM) dkap: Ifrit: A disguise implies credit to your enemy.
(10:04:25 PM) dkap: Ifrit: One should strike fast, while the air is still moving.
(10:04:56 PM) Caelin: "Fair enough...let's get going.
(10:05:18 PM) dkap: Ifrit: "If you would be so kind as to point the way."
(10:05:23 PM) Caelin: "And let me inform house members as well.
(10:05:45 PM) Caelin: "One moment. Warning the house security and house second..."
(10:06:25 PM) dkap: Ifrit: Of course, that is wise.
(10:06:46 PM) ***Caelin ducks out, runs up to the front desk, leaves a message for both Natasha and house second, "Left to investigate possible kidnapping of Laetatio at Benedict's request. Have guard with me."
(10:08:10 PM) Cagliostro: that's one hell of a dangling participle. ;)
(10:08:25 PM) dkap: But, it dangles so well ... *grin*
(10:09:12 PM) Caelin: (In an emergency, who needs flawless grammar?!)
(10:09:36 PM) Caelin: (Though I think dangling participles is a general weakness of mine anyway...:-P)
(10:10:09 PM) ***Caelin heads back down to the lab.
(10:10:10 PM) dkap: *grin* The house desk hands you back a message, from Natasha, that reads "Boy hostage is missing, I've gone tracking:
(10:10:30 PM) ***Caelin smiles at the message.
(10:10:49 PM) ***Caelin frowns suddenly, walks faster.
(10:12:01 PM) dkap: The Ifrit is following you.
(10:12:36 PM) ***Caelin says to the Ifrit behind him. "There's a chance there's more than one hostage here."
(10:14:12 PM) dkap: The Ifrit, touching a pouch, "There is also, more than one Ifrit."
(10:14:42 PM) Caelin: "Just what I want to hear. You came prepared. Shall we?"
(10:14:58 PM) ***Caelin reaches the door to the lab, I hope...
(10:15:52 PM) dkap: Indeed.
(10:16:56 PM) ***Caelin enters, checks surroundings. Has anything changed since last they were there?"
(10:19:28 PM) dkap: Not noticably.
(10:20:00 PM) ***Caelin starts to follow the wreckage toward the exit.
(10:20:43 PM) dkap: You notice that the wreakage is mostly confined to the path.
(10:21:05 PM) Caelin: "Dragged, I'm guessing."
(10:21:25 PM) Caelin: "even scarier...we didn't know how to move the confinement blob.
(10:22:44 PM) dkap: There are little puddles of green goo, along the path, The Ifrit grabs you, just before you step in one.
(10:23:11 PM) Caelin: "Thank you."
(10:23:55 PM) dkap: Ifrit: That type of blob?
(10:24:06 PM) Caelin: "Yes."
(10:24:10 PM) Caelin: Precisely.
(10:24:26 PM) Caelin: "YOu are familiar with it?"
(10:24:55 PM) dkap: Ifrit: Not as to yet.
(10:25:31 PM) Caelin: "I hope you never GET familiar with it either. Let's move on."
(10:26:14 PM) dkap: The Ifrit, carefully picking your and his way along, with the other following, goes out, toward the stables.
(10:26:30 PM) dkap: Once you reach there, you see that the stable outer wall has been torn off.
(10:26:46 PM) Caelin: "Compromised."
(10:27:33 PM) dkap: The remaining horses are cowering away from the open wall, white flecks on their faces, obviously in a panic.
(10:28:28 PM) Caelin: Observe with Magic sight.
(10:28:37 PM) Caelin: Then take magic sight down.
(10:29:16 PM) dkap: Magic all over the place, most with Zorro's signature on it. The wall looks like it was ripped by main force, though.
(10:30:37 PM) ***Caelin turns off the magic. "Main wall ripped by force Origin likely not a house member. But you already knew that."
(10:30:53 PM) Caelin: "Let's proceed, if that is what you recommend."
(10:31:45 PM) dkap: Ifrit: Indeed.
(10:32:42 PM) dkap: Count Cagliostro, you have reached a break-point in your workings, and are somewhat frustrated with your (lack of) progress, when an Ifrit comes up to you, and mentions the whole situation surrounding Caelin.
(10:33:29 PM) Caelin: If he's idling, he said to poke him on IM, btw.
(10:33:45 PM) Caelin: The IRC doesn't chirp and flash like IM does.
(10:33:53 PM) dkap: I know ...
(10:33:56 PM) Cagliostro: hello
(10:34:00 PM) dkap: Just a piece for him to see when he comes around to it.
(10:34:22 PM) Cagliostro: okay, so what is the whole situation surrounding Caelin? At least at a high level.
(10:34:36 PM) Cagliostro: I wasn't around for the Benedict parts.
(10:35:20 PM) dkap: Ahh ... Caelin's mother is coming to town, apparently, with plans to use Caelin for something.
(10:35:36 PM) Cagliostro: "And our opinion on this is...?"
(10:36:06 PM) dkap: That if Benedict is involved, along with a bunch of your Ifrit, you should be aware.
(10:36:09 PM) dkap: Nothing more.
(10:37:19 PM) dkap: Which is why it wasn't important enough to interrupt you for, just a heads-up on what your servants are, peripherally, involved in.
(10:37:20 PM) ***Cagliostro nods.
(10:37:47 PM) Cagliostro: "Excellent, keep me apprised. Do you require assistance or request advice?"
(10:38:16 PM) dkap: Ifrit: If the occasion arises, we shall, indeed, ask the Great Creator.
(10:38:59 PM) Cagliostro: "Excellent."
(10:39:03 PM) dkap: Caelin, there is a pastoral scene beyond the ripped wall. The wall seems cast aside, negligently, and there are drag-marks heading across the landscape.
(10:39:20 PM) Cagliostro: gm: while I'm at it, let me go ahead and get status reports from various worlds & departments and check in on things.
(10:39:35 PM) Cagliostro: let the unraveling problem go into the background.
(10:39:43 PM) dkap: That makes sense. Your world is running smoothly, according to joto.
(10:41:15 PM) Cagliostro: excellent.
(10:41:34 PM) dkap: No new incidents, several ... connections with the expiditionary force exploring Greater Darkover have returned with intelligence, and there is a quiet red-headed individual guesting at the castle, awaiting your return.
(10:41:43 PM) Cagliostro: is there something holding up the process? a stumbling block to understanding, perhaps?
(10:42:25 PM) dkap: Whomever came up with this _really_ didn't want it unraveled. There are traps along every branch, and each needs to be carefully disassembled, otherwise the whole thing will go.
(10:42:52 PM) dkap: The Ifrit from the fringe say that they have gotten it about a quarter under control.
(10:43:37 PM) dkap: Bleah ... I'll be back in a few moments.
(10:43:48 PM) Cagliostro: okay, so I just need to understand the trap completely, and also possibly the person who created it.
(11:00:08 PM) dkap: Sorry ... I'm back.
(11:00:52 PM) dkap: Well ... each trap seems different, and cumulative. So, either it's a very complex individual, or a team of individuals, or someone with a very good book on traps from across the years, and is using that as a guide.
(11:01:45 PM) Cagliostro: hm.
(11:02:10 PM) Cagliostro: so there's some sort of trapmaking tradition here.
(11:02:18 PM) Cagliostro: either individual or collective, and probably collective.
(11:02:38 PM) dkap: Perhaps ... or someone _really_ wanted to cause Caelin discomfort.
(11:02:50 PM) Cagliostro: hm. that can't be ruled out.
(11:02:59 PM) dkap: And spent a whole bunch of years tracking things down.
(11:03:22 PM) Cagliostro: which would mean that following those tracks would, in fact, trigger other traps.
(11:03:34 PM) Cagliostro: and the trap techniques may just be signposts to the real trap.
(11:03:45 PM) Cagliostro: or maybe cagliostro has more warfare than the guy who made the traps. ;)
(11:04:06 PM) dkap: Especially, since, most of the first, easiest ones, were set in such a way that the "burn through it" method would have destroyed the entity trapped within.
(11:04:27 PM) dkap: And patience. *grin*
(11:04:45 PM) Cagliostro: hm.
(11:10:05 PM) Cagliostro: has the work altered the local landscape in any apparent way?
(11:10:52 PM) dkap: No, it hasn't in any way that is immediately obvious to you.
(11:11:40 PM) Cagliostro: hm.
(11:11:51 PM) Cagliostro: how easy are the traps to set off by side effect / distance?
(11:11:56 PM) Cagliostro: as in, is it safe to carry around?
(11:13:57 PM) dkap: It is significantly not safe (and unstable) to carry around, which is why you found someplace isolated to begin your research, with no obvious ties to you, or connections back.
(11:14:19 PM) Cagliostro: k.
(11:14:50 PM) Cagliostro: hm.
(11:15:06 PM) Cagliostro: when's the last time I've eaten and slept?
(11:15:16 PM) Cagliostro: it may be time to take care of business.
(11:15:20 PM) Cagliostro: but not leave the area yet.
(11:15:55 PM) dkap: You haven't slept in a while, but you've been eating, there are the remains of food that the Ifrit have brought you, over time.
(11:16:40 PM) Cagliostro: time to set up a cottage or something and take a nap, I think.
(11:17:20 PM) dkap: There is the tent you set up ...
(11:17:51 PM) Cagliostro: ah, I didn't recall doing that. Makes sense.
(11:18:10 PM) dkap: *grin* You took all the proper considerations into account before you started.
(11:18:30 PM) dkap: To say that the tent is ... well defended might be overstating the position a bit. But ... only a bit.
(11:18:47 PM) Cagliostro: I'm debating whether the tent is too stereotypically Cagliostro, though.
(11:18:55 PM) Cagliostro: since clearly there's an obsessive involved in this.
(11:19:11 PM) Cagliostro: have I come up with a way to safely shield the device from being tracked?
(11:19:19 PM) dkap: Yes, you did that first.
(11:19:31 PM) dkap: And you were working in that bubble, while working.
(11:20:59 PM) Cagliostro: excellent. yay, me.
(11:21:19 PM) Cagliostro: put a bubble inside the bubble, and get some sleep outside the inner bubble but inside the outer bubble.
(11:21:24 PM) Cagliostro: Caelin's on the move. Time to stay rested. ;)
(11:21:44 PM) dkap: Indeed. a wise choice. And I should probably hang things there ...
(11:21:55 PM) dkap: It's half-past, and I need to sprint for the facilities again.
(11:22:23 PM) Cagliostro: sounds plannish
(11:22:27 PM) Caelin: (*snort*)
(11:22:37 PM) Cagliostro left the room (quit: Quit: Leaving.).
(11:25:54 PM) Auricle: night, then...
(11:26:17 PM) Auricle: I'm still ahead of folks anyways...
(11:26:39 PM) Caelin: Alright then.
(11:27:40 PM) dkap: Until next week, true believers ...
