(08:15:29 PM) The topic for #dkap_amber is: Game as usual, logs at https://www.train-wreck.org/~dkap/Amber/logs wiki-wiki at: https://www.rebel.org/wiki/
(08:16:03 PM) Cagliostro: heya
(08:16:07 PM) Cagliostro: sorry to hear about the bad computer night
(08:16:24 PM) Auricle: Hi dakp
(08:16:27 PM) Auricle: dkap
(08:16:37 PM) Auricle: I am having a bad computer night -- I have crashed 3 times.
(08:16:44 PM) Auricle: so if I go poof...
(08:17:39 PM) mode (+o dkap) by ChanServ
(08:19:00 PM) dkap: I understand.
(08:19:05 PM) dkap: I wonder where Mike is.
(08:21:36 PM) Auricle: dunno?
(08:23:05 PM) dkap: Right then.
(08:23:09 PM) dkap: Auricle, did we find you?
(08:23:29 PM) Auricle: ...yes
(08:23:42 PM) Auricle: I'm having an ifrit bring in Jagers.
(08:23:44 PM) dkap: And where did we find you?
(08:23:46 PM) dkap: Right.
(08:23:47 PM) Auricle: To go fight the army.
(08:24:40 PM) dkap: Right.
(08:25:01 PM) Cagliostro: Cagliostro is, last I thought, waiting near an open gate and a bacta tank for an army.
(08:25:24 PM) dkap: Indeed, the very army that Auricle is gathering. How convenient.
(08:25:36 PM) Cagliostro: hm. put some camo netting over the tank or something, just so you can't obviously see the wounded ranger guy's uniform.
(08:25:42 PM) Cagliostro: no, the other army.
(08:26:00 PM) Auricle: Amberites....egotistical....but timing, we have it.
(08:26:02 PM) dkap: Which other army?
(08:27:05 PM) dkap: The one who got the ranger who you are repairing?
(08:28:23 PM) Cagliostro: yep.
(08:28:42 PM) Cagliostro: and I'm trying to figure out how to block or selectively purge the necro darty things
(08:28:52 PM) Cagliostro: because while they're quite creative, I'd like them to make with the stop.
(08:29:05 PM) Cagliostro: and that's not even thinking about the effect on the woods, because Cagliostro hasn't.
(08:29:06 PM) dkap: Indeed.
(08:29:27 PM) Cagliostro: Jean is, of course, ubiquitous.
(08:30:23 PM) dkap: Indeed.
(08:31:06 PM) Auricle: Right, and my army is supposed to hopefully take out the bad army approaching
(08:31:47 PM) Cagliostro: and hopefully Cagliostro knows that, thanks to the Ifrit. But I'm not betting on anything, just hunkering down and waiting as a big ol' target.
(08:32:13 PM) dkap: Indeed.
(08:32:22 PM) dkap: So ... to deal with Auricle first.
(08:33:20 PM) Auricle: I possibly still have homunculi!Jean in a pocket.
(08:33:54 PM) Auricle: I think I was left gather over enough Jager to meet the Gargoyle's projections of what would be necessary to take out the approaching army
(08:33:55 PM) dkap: You don't, you shed him before heading up to the Moon Temple, and you came here from there.
(08:34:02 PM) Auricle: Okay
(08:34:24 PM) dkap: But Zach keeps track of the nearby Jean, and would, of course, inform him of the state of things.
(08:35:42 PM) Auricle: okays
(08:36:11 PM) Auricle: So do I have over 500 Jager? Given some algorithm for counting Jager? Possibly involving hats?
(08:36:20 PM) dkap: Right then. Zach is introducing the Jager to his highest ranked officers, and suggesting that the officers are good people to listen to, so they don't lose their hats.
(08:37:52 PM) ***Auricle nods
(08:37:55 PM) Auricle: Good.
(08:39:02 PM) dkap: Zach also spreads out his soldiers in ... less exciting positions, knowing that the Jager are not going to want those roles.
(08:39:18 PM) dkap: The over-commander in charge comes over.
(08:39:49 PM) ***Auricle is content to let Zach organize things. This is what Zachs do. Then I go cause chaos.
(08:40:01 PM) dkap: Zach: "Auricle, I'd like to introduce you to Juliana, my current overcommander of this group."
(08:40:12 PM) dkap: Zach: "Jules, this is Auricle."
(08:40:20 PM) Auricle: "Hi...Jules."
(08:40:36 PM) ***Auricle smiles and looks like she's remembered she's forgotten something.
(08:42:18 PM) Auricle: Gargoyle? Do I know her?
(08:42:29 PM) dkap: Juliana: Smiles, and bows, appropriately.
(08:42:43 PM) dkap: Gargoyle: No current record, starting record.
(08:43:13 PM) Auricle: "Nice to meet you."
(08:43:41 PM) dkap: Juliana: "A pleasure." And offers you a had to shake, since you didn't seem to really notice the bow.
(08:45:40 PM) ***Auricle blinks, and tentatively shakes her hand. *analyze*
(08:47:01 PM) dkap: Garyoyle: Obscure cultural offering, to show that one is weaponless, and welcoming. Not appropriate amongst shapeshifting or telepathic over touch cultures.
(08:47:40 PM) ***Auricle takes her hand back and looks at it.
(08:49:02 PM) dkap: Ifrit: If I may, Count Cagliostro might have more ... tactical information, if you so desire.
(08:49:33 PM) dkap: Auricle, she seemed very real, possibly child-of-old-lord real.
(08:49:37 PM) ***Auricle leans over to Zach: "Do we?"
(08:49:49 PM) dkap: Zach: Information is always good.
(08:49:58 PM) Auricle: Dkap: Didn't a ranger talk to me about someone?
(08:50:37 PM) dkap: Zach turns to the ifrit: Is it possible to open a non-traceable, secure communications channel with the good Count?
(08:50:53 PM) dkap: Auricle: Yes, but ... did you track it?
(08:51:11 PM) Auricle: Gargoyle would have. And it was about Zach, which tends to stay with her longer
(08:51:28 PM) Cagliostro: I was about to make those two points ;)
(08:51:39 PM) dkap: *grin*
(08:51:40 PM) dkap: True.
(08:51:50 PM) Auricle: That's why I have a Gargoyle!
(08:51:53 PM) dkap: Indeed.
(08:51:56 PM) ***Auricle loves the Gargoyle.
(08:52:07 PM) dkap: And Gargoyle loves you. Long time.
(08:52:15 PM) dkap: Umm ... not that way though.
(08:52:19 PM) dkap: Right.
(08:52:19 PM) Auricle: Right
(08:52:22 PM) dkap: Game, run.
(08:52:22 PM) Auricle: So.
(08:54:05 PM) Auricle: So, goes the gargoyle have that conversation and was it about her?
(08:54:57 PM) dkap: Oh, no, sorry, I thought you were talking about the one in the bacta tank.
(08:55:06 PM) dkap: Juliana is just one of the commanders.
(08:55:19 PM) dkap: I got confused, sorry.
(08:55:26 PM) Auricle: no problem
(08:55:40 PM) dkap: She's one of the upranks.
(08:55:42 PM) Auricle: "Well...um...nice ritual."
(08:56:05 PM) Auricle: "So is everything in place?"
(08:57:03 PM) dkap: Zach: Since we know so little about them, as in place as we can get, which is why I was asking the ifrit if we can get more ... intel from the field.
(08:58:40 PM) Auricle: "Ah. Okay then."
(08:58:56 PM) dkap: Juliana: "My initial strategic thought is to present them with an organized force, as a frontal, the griffins to harry from behind, draw them into the cover of the forest, and then have the Jagers pincer them.
(08:59:31 PM) Auricle: "I thought we didn't want them in the trees?"
(08:59:37 PM) dkap: Juliana: "Between the Griffins and the initial skirmish, then the cascade of Jagers, they should be simple to mop up afterward.
(09:00:01 PM) dkap: Juliana: And that doesn't require a lot of tactical thinking on the Jagers part.
(09:00:13 PM) dkap: Zach: That's what the Ifrit suggested.
(09:00:35 PM) dkap: Cagliostro: One of the Ifrit come over to you ...
(09:00:57 PM) ***Auricle thinks the Jagers will sometimes surprise you.
(09:01:03 PM) dkap: Ifrit: Great Creator, It seems that those who will stand between you and the army would wish some information.
(09:01:25 PM) dkap: Gargoyle agrees that he is often surprised by Jager, but not in a positive way.
(09:02:21 PM) ***Cagliostro raises an eyebrow.
(09:02:25 PM) Cagliostro: "Yes?"
(09:03:22 PM) dkap: The Ifrit starts vibrating, quietly near the Count, and from the interference in the vibration, Zach's voice seems to be coming through.
(09:03:39 PM) dkap: Zach: What, I'm just supposed to talk in your ear? How does that work?
(09:03:52 PM) dkap: Auricle: Zach seems to be whispering to the ifrit.
(09:04:11 PM) Auricle: Vibrating? And Zach's whispering at it?
(09:04:50 PM) Cagliostro: "Apparently it does work."
(09:05:48 PM) dkap: Auricle, yes.
(09:05:59 PM) Auricle: Nifty.
(09:06:01 PM) dkap: Zach: "Umm ... right then. I can hear you loud and clear.
(09:06:16 PM) ***Auricle walks up to Zach, whispers to him, "Why are we whispering?"
(09:06:24 PM) dkap: Zach: "So, your Ifrit carried the warning to us, but it was ... quite sparse.
(09:07:01 PM) dkap: Zach to Auricle: So the Count can here me.
(09:07:22 PM) ***Auricle looks completely lost.
(09:07:27 PM) Cagliostro: "The information known at the time was quite limited. Since then, I have ascertained that the 'darts' are in fact a device that uses a form of conjuration to necrify flesh."
(09:07:37 PM) dkap: Zach, to Ifrit (Count): "So, besides having taken out one of my rangers, acting as scout, and approaching my position, is there anything in particular I should know?"
(09:07:39 PM) Cagliostro: s/flesh/living tissue/
(09:08:05 PM) Cagliostro: "The scout is alive, but incapacitated, and is recovering."
(09:08:05 PM) dkap: Zach: "Necrify living tissue?"
(09:08:17 PM) Auricle: "Necrify doesn't sound good."
(09:08:58 PM) Cagliostro: "Yes."
(09:09:13 PM) dkap: Zach: How is this conjuration delivered, and how does an unrack effect it?
(09:10:02 PM) Cagliostro: "It is a short range field around the dart itself. I am not familiar with an 'unrack', so I cannot answer that question."
(09:10:16 PM) dkap: Zach: "Dart? How are the darts delivered?"
(09:10:27 PM) Cagliostro: "I do concur with the importance of finding a wide-scale solution to the problem before engagement."
(09:10:30 PM) Cagliostro: gm: pistols?
(09:10:45 PM) Auricle: That would be the guns.
(09:10:53 PM) Auricle: "That would be the guns they are firing."
(09:11:26 PM) Cagliostro: gm: can I hear Auricle, or just Zach?
(09:12:00 PM) dkap: You can hear Auricle, almost as if she is a distance away from the sending unit ...
(09:13:02 PM) dkap: Cagliostro: pistols, and, on your short magical recon, if I recall, you saw larger siege weapons equipped with similar, scaled up darts, with scaled up intensity.
(09:14:28 PM) dkap: Cagliostro: Most, if not all of the weapons, long and short range, had at least some of their ammunition arranged that way.
(09:14:39 PM) dkap: Only the close-up arms were not so enchanted.
(09:14:54 PM) Cagliostro: "Not only the pistols, but also seige weaponry with scaled up versions of the same ammunition."
(09:15:04 PM) Cagliostro: gm: like ballista bolts, or like a dart grapeshot?
(09:15:29 PM) dkap: Both.
(09:15:48 PM) dkap: And catapult, and mortar.
(09:15:50 PM) Auricle: "Oooh. Seige weapons."
(09:16:03 PM) Cagliostro: "They seem to be prepared for large opponents, fixed fortifications, and massed armies."
(09:16:32 PM) dkap: As well as a variety of working tech.
(09:16:43 PM) dkap: They seem ... competently armed.
(09:16:49 PM) dkap: For a cross-shadow contingent.
(09:17:42 PM) ***Cagliostro doesn't know nothin' about no working tech.
(09:17:51 PM) dkap: Indeed.
(09:18:10 PM) dkap: Except, in some places your radios don't work?
(09:18:13 PM) Cagliostro: "It's not necessary for you to interpose between me and the army. In fact, it may be prudent for me to go out and parlay with them, away from my workings."
(09:18:24 PM) ***Cagliostro hasn't really thought about it.
(09:18:28 PM) dkap: Juliana: Should we set up some sort of moving, non-living wall, to advance behind?
(09:18:40 PM) ***Auricle shrugs.
(09:18:55 PM) Auricle: "I still thought we didn't want them in the trees, which is where they're headed?"
(09:19:28 PM) dkap: Zach: "They have already attacked me, in the body of my scout, who is down, and I do thank you for taking care of his healing."
(09:21:06 PM) Cagliostro: "Even if their intentions are clearly hostile, parlay can reveal their identity and intention, and possibly defuse a mistaken situation."
(09:22:16 PM) Auricle: "Well, I suppose if you *want* to talk to them..."
(09:22:24 PM) dkap: Zach: "I would only trust an intelligent, and capable individual to parlay successfully, if their intentions are honorable, and, if their intentions are not, I know of none I would trust in the first category to be expendable.
(09:23:22 PM) dkap: Zach: "Especially not yourself, good sir.
(09:23:57 PM) dkap: Zach: "I know the esteem you carry, and none in there right mind would even dream of crossing it, but ... there are amateurs and idiots in the world."
(09:25:46 PM) Cagliostro: "I am not particularly worried about my own safety. I have faith in my ability to escape quickly should such be required. Nevertheless, the world is large and strange, and this area is your responsibility."
(09:26:22 PM) Cagliostro: "I admit that I am both curious and disturbed by the 'innovation' involved in the darts."
(09:27:00 PM) dkap: Juliana: Let's not be drawn into their kind of engagement ... for example, how are they getting through shadow - if we can surgically strike there, they will be marooned
(09:29:02 PM) Auricle: "...I could try to backtrace their trail."
(09:29:06 PM) dkap: Juliana: The best way to win is to change the rules.
(09:29:33 PM) Auricle: "Zach and I could deal with what was there."
(09:30:34 PM) dkap: Juliana: I think knowing how they're getting here, who's leading them, or at least where they came from, is possibly the next most critical piece of intelligence we should seek
(09:31:27 PM) Auricle: "Zach?"
(09:31:50 PM) dkap: Zach: "Why not. We've succeeded before."
(09:32:10 PM) dkap: Zach: "The team of Auricle and Zach tends to be unstoppable."
(09:32:37 PM) dkap: Zach: "But, how do we get the information, without rising someone?"
(09:32:50 PM) Auricle: "I'm gonna need to tell the Jagers to stay put. They have a tendency to follow me."
(09:33:06 PM) Auricle: "Er, rising?"
(09:33:19 PM) dkap: Risking ... sorry.
(09:33:45 PM) Cagliostro: "This was my motivation for volunteering myself; i believe the risk to myself is minimal from the physical objects the army has used so far."
(09:35:10 PM) Auricle: "WEll, I figured we'd just sneak around past them then follow their trail backwards."
(09:35:22 PM) ***Auricle is pretty good now at following trails through shadow.
(09:36:09 PM) dkap: Zach to Cagliostro: "If you are willing to risk it, I would be delighted to learn what you know, I would, however, request you set up contingencies for us to be able to deal with the possibility that you get darted.
(09:36:32 PM) ***Cagliostro creates two empty bacta tanks.
(09:36:43 PM) dkap: Zach: "We might be able to successfully get you out, but not be able to help you recover, as you are helping my scout recover.
(09:37:13 PM) Cagliostro: "Should I be darted and be incapacitated, if you could have an ifrit remove the dart itself and place me in one of the large fluid-filled transparent tanks, that would suffice."
(09:37:39 PM) dkap: Zach: "It will be done."
(09:38:03 PM) Cagliostro: gm: do I know where the army is?
(09:38:22 PM) dkap: You have a good idea, they are not far from your old position.
(09:38:56 PM) Cagliostro: not far - walking distance?
(09:39:47 PM) dkap: Self-dragging a wounded body, distance.
(09:40:10 PM) Cagliostro: ah.
(09:40:17 PM) Cagliostro: set up mobile ward, walk in that direction.
(09:41:39 PM) dkap: After, of course transferring yourself back to the correct shadow, right?
(09:41:58 PM) Cagliostro: I was always in the correct shadow
(09:42:05 PM) Cagliostro: it was everyone -else- I put through into the other
(09:42:15 PM) Cagliostro: and the bacta tanks are still in the old shadow
(09:42:20 PM) Cagliostro: since I was too paranoid to let them inside my wards
(09:43:03 PM) Cagliostro: s/them/the infected ranger/
(09:43:21 PM) dkap: Oh, right.
(09:43:22 PM) dkap: Sorry.
(09:43:25 PM) dkap: I lost track.
(09:43:55 PM) Cagliostro: no worries, it's been a copule of weeks.
(09:43:58 PM) Cagliostro: I left myself as bait
(09:44:08 PM) Cagliostro: but put touchy mcblowup there on the other side of a gate
(09:44:10 PM) dkap: Indeed. So ... into the jaws of death you go.
(09:44:17 PM) Cagliostro: but I liked the time difference too much to step through myself ;)
(09:44:31 PM) dkap: What particulars of your ward are you using?
(09:44:35 PM) dkap: Inertial dampers?
(09:44:45 PM) dkap: Physical presence/pressure change?
(09:44:50 PM) Cagliostro: if I can turn it on and keep moving, I will
(09:44:54 PM) dkap: Visible? Invisible?
(09:45:03 PM) Cagliostro: if i need to work out some sort of rebreathing on the inside, I'm OK with that
(09:45:05 PM) dkap: Of course you can, you can tune it.
(09:45:08 PM) Cagliostro: me visible, ward invisible
(09:45:23 PM) dkap: Right.
(09:45:33 PM) dkap: How far around you, space-wise does the ward encompase?
(09:46:25 PM) Cagliostro: double arms width
(09:46:31 PM) Cagliostro: outstretched arms, I mean
(09:47:36 PM) dkap: Right.
(09:47:47 PM) dkap: Dune-style inertial damper?
(09:48:03 PM) Cagliostro: perfect reflector, if I can
(09:48:09 PM) Cagliostro: I want to dissuade them from using the darts
(09:48:29 PM) Cagliostro: if I need to magic it up to reverse the momentum, I'm not above cheating
(09:54:13 PM) ***Cagliostro waits
(09:55:10 PM) dkap: Sorry, dealing with a difficulty.
(09:55:36 PM) dkap: Indeed. Can be doable.
(09:56:00 PM) Cagliostro: difficulties are unfortunate.
(09:56:14 PM) Cagliostro: the idea is to be a walking roadblock and moral lesson.
(09:57:03 PM) dkap: A wise choice.
(09:57:30 PM) dkap: How are you approaching them? And are you taking the ifrit in communications with you, other ifrit, or no ifrit?
(09:57:49 PM) Cagliostro: no ifrit
(09:58:01 PM) dkap: Right.
(09:58:37 PM) dkap: You approach their lines, their response is to call to you to surrender, lie, face down, on the ground with your hands clasped over your head.
(10:00:01 PM) ***Cagliostro sighs, gives them a look, and walks forward calmly and unthreateningly.
(10:00:28 PM) Cagliostro: let me know when I reach conversational distance, not shouting distance.
(10:05:26 PM) dkap: They shoot, the shots are returned.
(10:06:13 PM) Cagliostro: with the expected effect?
(10:06:21 PM) Cagliostro: or do they have defenses against their own offense?
(10:07:01 PM) dkap: It returned to the weapon at speed, as opposed to the shooter.
(10:07:05 PM) dkap: So, unknown, as to yet.
(10:07:12 PM) Cagliostro: hm.
(10:07:28 PM) Cagliostro: can I adjust the momentum so there's enough skew that it should hit the shooter? say, slightly down?
(10:07:40 PM) Cagliostro: I'm not really interestedin darting the guns out of people's hands. Not my idiom.
(10:09:29 PM) dkap: Indeed. It might be doable, but not here, under fire.
(10:09:54 PM) Cagliostro: ah. pity. oh well, I meant to do that.
(10:10:09 PM) Cagliostro: maybe if I -step- very slightly while they're shooting...
(10:10:12 PM) Cagliostro: that's worth a try.
(10:11:02 PM) Cagliostro: anyway, keep walking towards them, hopefully slowly enough to reflect the darts where I want.
(10:12:02 PM) dkap: Right.
(10:13:31 PM) dkap: You craft too well ...
(10:14:07 PM) Cagliostro: occupational hazard
(10:14:13 PM) Cagliostro: better my mistakes than caelin's. ;)
(10:14:21 PM) Cagliostro: (and if that doesn't summon Mike, nothing will.)
(10:14:32 PM) dkap: Indeed.
(10:14:58 PM) dkap: Apparently not.
(10:15:00 PM) dkap: *sigh*
(10:16:06 PM) Cagliostro: so I can reach conversational distance of their lines?
(10:16:13 PM) dkap: You can.
(10:16:35 PM) Cagliostro: then I say: "I'm not surrendering. But I am only here to talk."
(10:17:17 PM) dkap: It is interesting that after the 5th or so shot, you aren't being shot at anymore. (Look, learning curve.)
(10:18:13 PM) dkap: But they don't answer, although, there is a whistling noise, getting closer, fast.
(10:18:40 PM) Cagliostro: artillery, perhaps?
(10:18:50 PM) dkap: Probably, from your experience.
(10:19:11 PM) Cagliostro: all right, this will be an interesting experiment for everyone involved.
(10:19:12 PM) dkap: Perhaps, they are hoping that the heavier shot might get through your "armor".
(10:19:25 PM) Cagliostro: it would seem like a stage they'll have to go through.
(10:19:48 PM) Cagliostro: and it's fairly impressive coordination if they can hit a man-sized moving target on the first try.
(10:19:52 PM) dkap: Do you pause to let it bounce, or do you attempt to dodge it?
(10:20:10 PM) dkap: Or do you attempt to move so it's an accurate shot, and still bounces?
(10:21:40 PM) Cagliostro: I'd like to test the bounce
(10:21:55 PM) Cagliostro: whether that involves moving or not
(10:22:04 PM) Cagliostro: but I don't want it to look -obvious-
(10:22:08 PM) Cagliostro: I have a reputation to maintain.
(10:22:15 PM) dkap: So, you want to put yourself at _almost_ ground zero.
(10:22:23 PM) dkap: But not quite?
(10:23:40 PM) Cagliostro: meh
(10:23:44 PM) Cagliostro: I won't mind absolute ground zero
(10:23:54 PM) Cagliostro: whatever my warfare dictates ;)
(10:24:37 PM) dkap: Right ... your warfare dictates just a little off of ground zero, in case not all of the inertia could be damped, without a deep enough dent that might actually reach you.
(10:25:34 PM) Cagliostro: listen to that little voice, then.
(10:25:41 PM) dkap: Right.
(10:25:57 PM) dkap: It does bounce, although it does get a bit warm from the inertial damping.
(10:26:24 PM) Cagliostro: can I calculate the safety margin?
(10:26:56 PM) dkap: Oh, the safety margin is enough that were you at ground zero, it wouldn't have hit, but it does get a touch warm.
(10:27:33 PM) Cagliostro: excellent.
(10:27:36 PM) Cagliostro: continue forward.
(10:27:40 PM) dkap: And you figure that you could probably withstand about 3 direct hits at a time, of this caliber, without problems.
(10:27:41 PM) Cagliostro: and listen for the earthshattering kaboom.
(10:28:02 PM) Caelin [~arkhon@pool-173-48-174-64.bstnma.fios.verizon.net] entered the room.
(10:28:16 PM) dkap: The bounce, however, is an exact replica of the momentum.
(10:28:36 PM) dkap: Minus the heat generated, so ... the bounce is ... slightly off.
(10:28:43 PM) Caelin: Here
(10:28:46 PM) dkap: By the refraction.
(10:29:03 PM) dkap: Oh, good. Good to see you. Debacle is happening, and you were missed.
(10:29:28 PM) Cagliostro: hm, about the heat.
(10:29:48 PM) Caelin: What? So it could be MORE of a debacle?
(10:29:56 PM) Caelin: Thank you, NO.
(10:29:59 PM) Cagliostro: mmmmmmmaybe.
(10:30:30 PM) dkap: Juliana says: If there was only some way to pull away all the power in the darts, they would be much more easily countered.
(10:30:50 PM) dkap: Juliana: That, or just marooning them in shadow. Or both.
(10:31:26 PM) dkap: The kaboom happens at about 400 feet above ground level.
(10:31:36 PM) dkap: Apparently there was a timer, as well as an impact trigger.
(10:31:46 PM) ***Cagliostro hms.
(10:31:46 PM) dkap: Darts are spraying outward, like the fourth of july.
(10:32:01 PM) Cagliostro: gm: am I in the forest?
(10:32:08 PM) Cagliostro: and if so, can I block the forestward trajectory?
(10:32:47 PM) dkap: You are at the, from Auricle and Zach's point of view, back of the army, just before they get into the more heavy wooded area, before the forest.
(10:33:02 PM) Cagliostro: okay, try to block the darts from entering the heavily wooded area
(10:33:08 PM) Cagliostro: because _I_ would put scouts there
(10:33:12 PM) Cagliostro: and I wouldn't want them shot too.
(10:33:24 PM) dkap: Which is where Auricle and Zach, and the rangers and the Jager are.
(10:34:20 PM) dkap: Auricle, you can see this.
(10:34:28 PM) Auricle: nodnod
(10:34:33 PM) dkap: Do you do anything?
(10:36:08 PM) Auricle: Can I pull away power from the darts?
(10:36:13 PM) Auricle: What's their power? Magical?
(10:36:53 PM) dkap: Right, Juliana, along with the other ranked Rangers do "unrack"s on the darts,
(10:37:17 PM) dkap: Unfortunately the unrack interacts ... poorly with Cagliostro's redirection attempt.
(10:37:46 PM) dkap: Thankfully, the Count doesn't keep spells racked, but the redirection sent goes away.
(10:37:58 PM) Auricle: Away?
(10:38:10 PM) dkap: And since it's conjured, rather than enspelled, the darts still contain their deadly payload.
(10:38:12 PM) Cagliostro: away is probably better than awry.
(10:38:21 PM) dkap: Indeed.
(10:38:48 PM) dkap: Auricle, you can pull the reality from the darts ... but not the power.
(10:38:59 PM) Auricle: ..what would making them unreal do?
(10:39:03 PM) Auricle: Or less real?
(10:39:34 PM) Auricle: ..actually, who cares, that sounds cool.
(10:39:44 PM) ***Auricle yanks reality from the darts.
(10:40:32 PM) dkap: Cagliostro, the darts are now real easy to just wipe from existence, because, their magical inertia just dropped phenomenally.
(10:40:42 PM) Cagliostro: oh, do that.
(10:40:48 PM) Cagliostro: at least to the ones in the back.
(10:40:49 PM) dkap: You could deconjour them with just a passing thought.
(10:41:02 PM) ***Cagliostro is not super sympathetic to the others.
(10:41:15 PM) dkap: They go out of existence with a little sigh of the air joyfully not being pushed out of the way by their inertia.
(10:41:41 PM) dkap: Including the ones heading toward you, or wipe those away, as well?
(10:41:42 PM) Auricle: "Hmmm."
(10:41:51 PM) Auricle: "Well, if it works on darts......"
(10:42:27 PM) ***Auricle pulls reality from the ammunition for the approaching army.
(10:42:46 PM) dkap: Cagliostro: you, of course, notice that immediately.
(10:43:48 PM) ***Cagliostro is slightly disturbed.
(10:44:08 PM) ***Auricle has that effect on people a lot.
(10:44:36 PM) Cagliostro: I'll go ahead and let the ammo exist.
(10:44:44 PM) dkap: Right.
(10:44:45 PM) Cagliostro: if I get rid of it, they'll switch to something else immediately.
(10:44:51 PM) Auricle: ...is the whole army real? :D
(10:44:52 PM) Cagliostro: and I can wink it out on the fly.
(10:45:16 PM) dkap: Yes, Auricle, the whole army is real, but, removing the reality from people is much harder.
(10:45:37 PM) Auricle: Okay.
(10:45:59 PM) dkap: Auricle, somehow, the rest of the darts didn't melt, only the ones pointed at you ... strange that. As if some other intelligence was protecting you.
(10:46:51 PM) Auricle: ..;I noticed? Cool.
(10:47:03 PM) ***Auricle assumes it is Zach.
(10:48:21 PM) dkap: Of course you noticed. Some of the things you were just interacting with disappeared, and Gargoyle mapped it, so you could see the extent.
(10:48:43 PM) Auricle: Ahhh. That makes sense.
(10:48:53 PM) ***Auricle still assumes it was Zach.
(10:49:05 PM) dkap: Not a problem.
(10:51:29 PM) Auricle: So what is the army doing now?
(10:51:38 PM) dkap: Still advancing on your position.
(10:52:43 PM) Cagliostro: casualties?
(10:52:44 PM) Auricle: What happened to Cagliostro's negotiation besides rapid fire?
(10:52:48 PM) dkap: Juliana: Should we ready for hand-to-hand? Rangers in the fore, Jager in reserve?
(10:52:59 PM) dkap: You have no intel on the subject as to yet.
(10:53:07 PM) Auricle: "Er...Jager's don't do so well in reserve."
(10:53:12 PM) dkap: Except that they have not ceased their advance.
(10:53:35 PM) dkap: Juliana: *shrugs* Jagers in the fore then.
(10:54:20 PM) dkap: juliana: and griffins at the ready.
(10:54:43 PM) ***Auricle turns to the Jagers. "Hey Jagers! Get ready to fight!"
(10:54:48 PM) ***Auricle grins.
(10:55:34 PM) dkap: Jagers: *CHEER*
(10:55:44 PM) dkap: Jagers charge the army.
(10:55:56 PM) Auricle: "Like I said..."
(10:56:35 PM) dkap: Juliana: "All archers, ready, shoot! One round only."
(10:57:02 PM) Cagliostro: gm: -now- I deconjure the rest of the darts and other ammo.
(10:58:50 PM) dkap: Right. And you actually have to stop, and concentrate on such a large working, and ... well ... be somewhat loud about it, which, I know, isn't quite your style ... but ... necessary to cover such a large, and varied field in time.
(10:59:42 PM) Cagliostro: I'm sure the jager will distract people so they won't really notice.
(11:00:31 PM) Auricle: It's hard not to notice rampaging Jagers.
(11:01:12 PM) dkap: Indeed, especially since they all fired, in good order on the Jager, and ... nothing happened.
(11:01:20 PM) dkap: The Jager easily overrun their front picket.
(11:01:34 PM) dkap: Juliana: "Release the Griffins!"
(11:01:49 PM) Auricle: "Yay JAgers!"
(11:02:02 PM) dkap: Juliana: "Rangers, Pincer attack number 6, get in position!"
(11:02:59 PM) dkap: Zach: "Reserves, circle out, not one of these leave alive, prisoners taken, but none, if at all possible, are to report back. We want this army to have disappeared, as if the ground itself just opened and swallowed them all, wholesale."
(11:04:00 PM) Auricle: "The Jagers will be disappointed. They like to eat their enemies."
(11:04:33 PM) dkap: Zach: "I won't stop them, by any means, but ... if there are those who surrender, then they aren't enemies anymore, right?"
(11:04:53 PM) dkap: Zach: And those who surrender, are not ... well ... going anywhere, any time soon.
(11:05:11 PM) dkap: Zach: "But, as an Amberite, I will honor their surrender."
(11:05:26 PM) dkap: Zach: "Well ... as a good Amberite."
(11:05:41 PM) dkap: Zach: "Well ... as me, who cares about his honor, anyway."
(11:05:46 PM) ***Auricle looks over the hundreds of Jagers.
(11:05:58 PM) Auricle: "Right...um....that's a lot of Jagers to convince."
(11:06:12 PM) Auricle: "How about you just blame me?"
(11:06:58 PM) Caelin left the room.
(11:06:59 PM) dkap: Zach: "There won't be any blame, there won't be any record, and I don't expect any of them to surrender, but ... if they do, they won't be surrendering to the Jager, probably.
(11:07:12 PM) Auricle: "That's very true."
(11:07:15 PM) Caelin [~arkhon@pool-173-48-174-64.bstnma.fios.verizon.net] entered the room.
(11:09:09 PM) dkap: The pincer movement is keeping the army contained.
(11:09:21 PM) dkap: Count, there is griffins overhead, attacking from your side.
(11:09:26 PM) Cagliostro: I'll continue to walk towards the center of the army.
(11:10:20 PM) dkap: The Jager are moving ... well ... chaotically, and unpredictably. Thus upholding the view that, while the pattern is the heart of order, surrounding it is the most chaotic of circumstances (usually considered the Family Amber, but in this case, the Pattern Keeper's Private Army).
(11:11:19 PM) Auricle: (and often the Pattern Keeper)
(11:11:43 PM) Auricle: (Neither Dworkin nor Auricle being the most...ordered.)
(11:12:07 PM) dkap: Indeed.
(11:12:20 PM) dkap: Things are going ... well for your team, poorly for the enemy.
(11:12:50 PM) dkap: Caglostro, you have breached their lines, they have drawn hand-weapons, and are going after the influx of enemy, somewhat effectively.
(11:13:02 PM) dkap: How will your ... particular ward deal with sword blows?
(11:13:30 PM) Cagliostro: I had been focused on ranged weapons - swords will bounce back, presumably into armor.
(11:13:46 PM) Cagliostro: it might cause some concussions or broken bones, but probably in the main bruises.
(11:14:34 PM) dkap: Right. Not a problem, you walk into the melee unscathed.
(11:15:42 PM) Cagliostro: I'm looking for someone in charge.
(11:16:47 PM) dkap: There are a lot of people charging, a lot of people shouting (and having their orders ignored ... Jager, apparently are quite unsettling to this group)
(11:17:03 PM) dkap: And the Rangers are well disciplined.
(11:19:34 PM) Cagliostro: if I can't tell that someone's obviously in charge, it's not my problem.
(11:19:38 PM) dkap: It would be a route if there were anywhere to route them to ...
(11:19:50 PM) Cagliostro: I'm looking for someone capable of creating those darts.
(11:19:59 PM) dkap: There is a quick, and large magical working beginning near the back of center camp.
(11:20:08 PM) Cagliostro: see? that.
(11:20:18 PM) Cagliostro: can I disrupt it?
(11:20:21 PM) Cagliostro: or is it too quick?
(11:20:33 PM) Auricle: ooc: I'm pretty much falling asleep here.
(11:20:47 PM) Auricle: ooc: I'm gonna log.
(11:21:16 PM) dkap: You can disrupt it.
(11:21:23 PM) dkap: It is but beginning.
(11:21:32 PM) dkap: And we can hang here, if you wish.
(11:21:38 PM) Caelin: Done.
(11:21:53 PM) Auricle: lay
(11:21:57 PM) Auricle: kay
(11:22:00 PM) Cagliostro: sounds plausible.
(11:22:04 PM) Cagliostro: until next week!
(11:22:06 PM) Cagliostro left the room (quit: Quit: Leaving.).
(11:22:08 PM) dkap: Reasonable. I call this a game.
(11:22:10 PM) Auricle: Sleepy Auricle goes sleep. Bye!
(11:22:14 PM) Caelin left the room.
(11:22:15 PM) Auricle left the room.
