(08:26:30 PM) dkap: Sorry about that.

(08:31:23 PM) mode (+o dkap) by ChanServ
(08:31:51 PM) dkap: Ok ... let's see how well that works ...
(08:31:56 PM) Mistress_Janice [~chatzilla@pool-98-110-171-21.bstnma.fios.verizon.net] entered the room.
(08:32:18 PM) Mistress_Janice: Sorry I'm late.
(08:32:25 PM) dkap: S'ok. We were just getting started.
(08:32:39 PM) dkap: My disk keeps cutting out, so ... hopefully it will keep working for now.
(08:32:51 PM) dkap: Oh, and game won't run the first two weeks of August, just FYI.
(08:33:04 PM) dkap: (Well ... it will run, just in person, at Pennsic ...
(08:33:09 PM) Mistress_Janice: Gotcha. I didn't get the job. Been a bad day.
(08:33:31 PM) dkap: Bleah!
(08:33:40 PM) dkap: Very sad. Did they say why?
(08:33:53 PM) Mistress_Janice: Nope. I'm lucky they said anything at all.
(08:33:57 PM) dkap: Oh?
(08:34:27 PM) Cagliostro: back
(08:35:18 PM) Mistress_Janice: These days, usually only the winners are notified.
(08:35:30 PM) dkap: Oh. I hadn't known.
(08:36:09 PM) Cagliostro: suck.
(08:36:31 PM) Cagliostro: minor correction - I'm running a Savage Worlds game using my conversion of a 3.5 module.
(08:36:38 PM) Cagliostro: A city built in a dormant volcano! What could go wrong?
(08:37:05 PM) dkap: *grin*
(08:38:31 PM) dkap: Right. This game, run.
(08:38:42 PM) dkap: We were about to ... embark into the unknown, right?
(08:39:01 PM) Cagliostro: I believe that was the plan, yes
(08:39:05 PM) Delna: correct
(08:39:45 PM) dkap: Excellent.
(08:39:57 PM) dkap: How far, with the dragons and the mice had we gotten?
(08:40:56 PM) Spot: Um. well, there'd been a chasing game
(08:41:23 PM) Cagliostro: the dragons had begun to speak with a creepy unified voice
(08:41:42 PM) Cagliostro: "Who seeks?"
(08:41:45 PM) Cagliostro: that sort of thing.
(08:42:09 PM) dkap: Right.
(08:44:02 PM) dkap: I believe they were singing, and the modulation came from them, right.
(08:45:03 PM) Cagliostro: ok
(08:48:19 PM) Cagliostro: I believe we are waiting for something to happen
(08:48:23 PM) Cagliostro: with some trepidation
(08:48:25 PM) Spot: yeah
(08:48:50 PM) dkap: They seem to be asking you folks a question.
(08:50:38 PM) Cagliostro: hm. I thought they were asking us. ;)
(08:50:48 PM) Cagliostro: after a pause, and presumably an expectant look from the dragons...
(08:50:57 PM) Cagliostro: "Oh! I, Count Cagliostro, seek."
(08:51:51 PM) dkap: There is more rumbling and then ... "The Count who holds Princess Chandra's esteem?"
(08:52:32 PM) Cagliostro: "I believe I am so honored, yes."
(08:55:19 PM) dkap: Rumbling: "Then, what do you seek, oh honored one."
(08:55:57 PM) Cagliostro: "I wish to know who seeks us in the Umbra, and whether they are fey."
(08:57:24 PM) dkap: Rumbling: "The fey always seek you, for there is a common bond and a debt ..."
(08:59:35 PM) Cagliostro: "Whose debt?"
(09:00:35 PM) dkap: Rumbling: "The debt of the Fey."
(09:00:55 PM) ***Cagliostro looks slightly relieved.
(09:01:15 PM) Cagliostro: "There is no current need for the fey to call upon my services?"
(09:02:01 PM) dkap: Rumbling: "The fey waits to be called upon to help you in whatever you endeavor in the realms that touch us."
(09:03:08 PM) ***Cagliostro hmms.
(09:04:27 PM) Cagliostro: to the crowd: "I think that answers our questions?"
(09:04:45 PM) ***Spot scratches the back of his head.
(09:04:48 PM) Spot: "It does?"
(09:06:05 PM) Cagliostro: "About why Faerie was bleeding into the Umbra."
(09:08:25 PM) Cagliostro: "Was there anything else we needed to know before returning to our search?"
(09:08:57 PM) dkap: Rumbling: "Know that, should you need us, you just have to call us, where we can hear it."
(09:09:25 PM) Delna: "Could they help us find what we are looking for?.."
(09:10:07 PM) Cagliostro: "Perhaps, but we are discovering what is out there, not searching for something in particular."
(09:10:19 PM) Cagliostro: to the dragons: "Excellent. You have done me a service."
(09:10:37 PM) Cagliostro: Cagliostro concentrates a moment, then conjures a castle, set up for dragons and mice to chase each other.
(09:10:46 PM) Cagliostro: perhaps 50' or so across
(09:11:20 PM) dkap: Rumbling: "The service is yours for the asking."
(09:11:45 PM) ***Mistress_Janice wasn't aware the dragons were so small.
(09:11:49 PM) dkap: Sand castle?
(09:12:04 PM) dkap: (Faery dragons, not real dragons ... fyi)
(09:12:05 PM) Cagliostro: good idea, but solidly built
(09:12:18 PM) Cagliostro: (I believe their size varies)
(09:12:49 PM) ***Mistress_Janice just thought 50' seemed rather small for dragons.
(09:12:59 PM) dkap: Their size varies at whimsy, and, when caught the mice turn into dragons, and the dragons, mice.
(09:13:10 PM) dkap: They are chasing mice, after all.
(09:13:54 PM) dkap: That's 5 10x10 rooms tall, not bad for a dungeon. *grin*
(09:14:20 PM) Mistress_Janice: I knew about the swaps in the chasing game. Just getting accustomed to the scale.
(09:14:57 PM) dkap: Why, are you worried about the 100' of rope, or the 10' pole?
(09:15:13 PM) Mistress_Janice: This is NOT the AD&D run.
(09:15:18 PM) Cagliostro: heh.
(09:15:30 PM) Spot: giggle
(09:15:39 PM) Mistress_Janice: Which, as I recall, you got rather wroth with us about calling it in the first place...
(09:15:52 PM) Cagliostro: Some labrynths at variable sizes. With movable walls, of course.
(09:16:00 PM) Cagliostro: I recall reading about the AD&D run.
(09:16:19 PM) Mistress_Janice: We even brought dice once. He got annoyed at us.
(09:16:57 PM) ***Mistress_Janice hushes again.
(09:17:20 PM) Cagliostro: so yes, we will return to the Umbra
(09:18:02 PM) dkap: Yes, yes I did. But it was all in good fun.
(09:18:03 PM) dkap: *grin*
(09:18:11 PM) dkap: Spot, you are up.
(09:18:12 PM) Spot: Ferrying everyone back into the Umbra?
(09:18:48 PM) ***Spot sighs and steps everyone sideways, thinking there has to be an easier way to do this
(09:19:50 PM) dkap: Ask a Bear.
(09:20:09 PM) Spot: Bears. Meh.
(09:20:22 PM) dkap: They can tear a hole and let people wander back and forth ...
(09:21:22 PM) dkap: So, into the woods we go tonight ... I mean umbra ...
(09:21:26 PM) Spot: Yeah yeah, bears. :P
(09:22:53 PM) dkap: You have ferried the chicken, the fox, and the seeds over to the other side.
(09:23:03 PM) dkap: With a minimum of fuss.
(09:23:13 PM) Spot: Fortunately
(09:25:17 PM) dkap: And then ... what is the plan of attack?
(09:26:08 PM) Cagliostro: I'm at "walk till we find something interesting"
(09:26:37 PM) dkap: Pick a direction and go?
(09:26:39 PM) Cagliostro: "Unless the experts have a different opinion?"
(09:26:41 PM) dkap: Cool
(09:27:55 PM) dkap: Experts?
(09:28:01 PM) dkap: Bueler?
(09:28:17 PM) ***Mistress_Janice keeps her mouth shut.
(09:29:13 PM) Spot: "I'm good with....whichever directions feel right."
(09:29:25 PM) Delna: no other suggestion currently
(09:29:48 PM) ***Spot spins in a circle, then an extra one after his own tail, then bounds off thataway.
(09:29:56 PM) dkap: Thataway it is.
(09:30:41 PM) dkap: The terrain is somewhat more varied than the corresponding land, for there is just dunes below, whereas here there are hills, valleys, grottos, glens, etc.
(09:32:15 PM) ***Cagliostro hmms.
(09:32:53 PM) dkap: Just to be clear, there are no carnivorous Gazebos in any of the glades.
(09:33:00 PM) ***Spot is relieved.
(09:33:13 PM) Mistress_Janice: Damn, so these are the omnivorous kind?
(09:34:10 PM) Delna: They're actually pescatarians
(09:35:43 PM) dkap: I think the whole thing is fishy.
(09:35:45 PM) dkap: *grin*
(09:36:07 PM) dkap: There is a dragonfly-like sound in the distance.
(09:36:30 PM) ***Spot stops bounding with such enthusiasm
(09:39:32 PM) dkap: But continue in that direction?
(09:39:59 PM) Spot: well, of course
(09:42:27 PM) dkap: Excellent, as you approach, it seems to be coming from the valley in front of you all.
(09:44:34 PM) dkap: What's the plan?
(09:45:38 PM) Delna: any way to get a peak without necessarily being seen first?
(09:46:28 PM) dkap: Possibly, depending on what you are peeking at. You could wander up to just about the point of the valley, and gently peer over the other side ... maybe with an improvised periscope or the like ...
(09:49:54 PM) Delna: I suggest the stealthy version of checking out the sound. and see what the others think.
(09:50:06 PM) dkap: Others?
(09:50:12 PM) ***Cagliostro concurs
(09:50:16 PM) dkap: Excellent.
(09:50:23 PM) dkap: Spot? Mistress_Janice?
(09:54:29 PM) Spot: I'm good with it
(09:55:25 PM) dkap: Excellent. Do we have a plan for what stealth comprises of?
(09:55:33 PM) Mistress_Janice: Works for me. Aerial's probably out, if that *is* a flying sound.
(09:55:51 PM) Spot: "I'm not flying into it blind."
(09:57:26 PM) dkap: Right. Ground? Under-ground (if that is even possible in the umbra?)
(09:57:39 PM) dkap: Water seems to be out, since there doesn't seem to be any around ...
(09:58:48 PM) Mistress_Janice: Be vewy, vewy quiet.... We're wandewing aimwesswy..... Hehehehehehe...
(10:00:11 PM) ***Spot hunkers down low to the ground.
(10:01:10 PM) ***Cagliostro is up to a walk then an elbow-crawl up to a vantage point
(10:02:40 PM) Delna: Delna will hunker and get closer the the edge as well
(10:08:10 PM) dkap: In the vale there is, apparently, a contest going on. The buzzing is from the large, winged thing dive-bombing the large rock-like thing that keeps ripping pieces of itself off, throwing them at the buzzing thing, and then they roll back to become part of it again.
(10:08:26 PM) ***Spot hmmms.
(10:09:27 PM) Mistress_Janice: Local mating ritual?
(10:10:30 PM) dkap: Looks more like the rock thing is trying to escape the flying thing, rather than anything even vaguely amicable
(10:11:24 PM) ***Cagliostro also hmms.
(10:11:28 PM) Mistress_Janice: Ripping pieces of itself off... with what? Has it got arms, legs, any visible source of locomotion?
(10:13:09 PM) Delna: Do I see anything in the aura of the one that is being attacked?
(10:13:15 PM) dkap: It's a vague collection of rocks, that seem to be working in concert.
(10:13:31 PM) dkap: They seem to both be attacking each other, which one?
(10:13:37 PM) ***Mistress_Janice ahhhs, and continues to observe.
(10:13:39 PM) dkap: And their auras are all ... messed up.
(10:14:02 PM) ***Spot whispers, "Could just be rock and bug spirits, but..."
(10:14:28 PM) Delna: The rocks. How are they messed up?
(10:15:02 PM) dkap: It seems to be fluxuatng, either could die at any moment.
(10:15:58 PM) dkap: And their actions toward each other increase or decrease the likely hood over and over again.
(10:16:07 PM) dkap: This is, apparently a fight to the death.
(10:16:39 PM) dkap: Or the cease of movement for something unalive, against something that is quite alive ...but being battered to death by rocks.
(10:18:17 PM) Delna: "This fight is going to be deadly for one of them. I think we should intervene."
(10:19:07 PM) Spot: "But on whose side?"
(10:20:15 PM) Delna: "I don't know. Nor do I know how to do so effectively. But we need to do something before one of them dies"
(10:20:29 PM) Cagliostro: "Neither, if possible. At least until we know what is going on. But we may be able to stop this conflict. If this is a spirit realm, they may have been doing this for a while"
(10:22:09 PM) Cagliostro: gm: conjuration is out, how is spellcasting in the umbra? warding possible?
(10:23:32 PM) dkap: Very hard, to do even the most trivial of things.
(10:23:41 PM) Cagliostro: then that's out.
(10:23:45 PM) dkap: Which is why you keep stepping out to do anything, and bringing it back in.
(10:24:25 PM) Cagliostro: to conjure, yes
(10:24:35 PM) Cagliostro: and I could do that, I suppose, if no one has any better ideas
(10:24:52 PM) Delna: Do we have the lens still? I would be curious as to if that sheds any light on this fight.
(10:25:21 PM) ***Cagliostro gives Delna the lens
(10:25:28 PM) Mistress_Janice: Is there any way to... translate? To determine what the forms here are representing from more concrete reality?
(10:25:55 PM) Delna: I look at the fight through the lens
(10:25:58 PM) ***Cagliostro could create something that creates a ward when thrown
(10:26:04 PM) Cagliostro: so we could ward around us and around the rock creature
(10:26:12 PM) dkap: The lens shows nothing in the umbra.
(10:26:35 PM) dkap: You could step out of the Umbra and see what's on the other side.
(10:26:38 PM) ***Mistress_Janice qualifies, "Rock collective - it may not be a single discrete creature."
(10:27:13 PM) ***Mistress_Janice doesn't want to inconvenience Spot, who seems to be required to get one back and forth.
(10:30:38 PM) ***Spot shrugs.
(10:30:39 PM) dkap: Spot might have problems popping out here, if there are no reflective surfaces ...
(10:30:52 PM) Spot: "It's just hard to get everyone back and forth."
(10:31:16 PM) Spot: "But I can peek through to the other side."
(10:31:31 PM) Mistress_Janice: A peek might give us some insight into this conflict.
(10:32:32 PM) dkap: How do you peek without a shiny surface on the other side?
(10:33:43 PM) Spot: I've got a sword.
(10:33:47 PM) Spot: Swords are shiny
(10:34:00 PM) Spot: Heck, I've an umbraphone, the display is shiny
(10:34:20 PM) Spot: It just needs to be reflective. A belt buckle will do
(10:35:14 PM) dkap: But they are all on this side.
(10:35:48 PM) Cagliostro: http://pandagon.net/index.php/site/comments/fair_and_handsome_white_as_vaseline_skin_whitener_facebook_tool_markets_col/
(10:35:52 PM) Cagliostro: whoops, wrong window
(10:36:03 PM) Cagliostro: Meant to say: I conjure a mirror on the other side.
(10:36:15 PM) Cagliostro: small sandwich board, maybe 2' high.
(10:37:00 PM) ***Spot pokes his head out of the umbra to see what's going on.
(10:37:36 PM) dkap: There are twins, locked at each other's throat, one looks blue, the other brown.
(10:37:44 PM) dkap: Vaguely amberoid in shape.
(10:37:53 PM) dkap: (Or Chandroid, if you prefer the term.)
(10:38:04 PM) ***Spot pokes his head back into the umbra. "Twins, fighting."
(10:38:26 PM) Spot: "Humanoid." (Not knowing a thing about amber, chandroids, etc as spot)
(10:39:16 PM) dkap: Indeed.
(10:40:35 PM) Mistress_Janice: Setting? Fighting physically, verbally? Any apparent source of the conflict?
(10:40:50 PM) Spot: "Trying to choke each other."
(10:40:58 PM) Spot: "no words."
(10:41:26 PM) ***Cagliostro hms.
(10:41:29 PM) Cagliostro: "Redheads?"
(10:41:45 PM) Spot: "Ahhhh blue and brown?"
(10:41:59 PM) Cagliostro: "Huh."
(10:42:01 PM) ***Spot takes another look to look at hair color.
(10:42:04 PM) Cagliostro: "Shall we go take a look?"
(10:42:34 PM) dkap: No hair, just ... forms, blue and brown.
(10:43:21 PM) ***Mistress_Janice opines, "This is only the first thing we've seen. Is there a reason to get bogged down here? It seems... somewhat petty."
(10:43:49 PM) Cagliostro: "I don't think any of the natives have blue coloration."
(10:44:08 PM) Mistress_Janice: Natives of...?
(10:44:22 PM) Cagliostro: "Darkover."
(10:44:26 PM) Cagliostro: "Or our world."
(10:44:28 PM) ***Spot pops back.
(10:44:34 PM) Spot: "Nope, just blue and brown."
(10:45:09 PM) Cagliostro: "I would like to take a look."
(10:46:04 PM) Spot: "Ferry express, then?"
(10:46:26 PM) Cagliostro: "Indeed."
(10:46:54 PM) Mistress_Janice: Spot, would it be easier to get back and forth if one of us were to remain on either side?
(10:47:32 PM) Mistress_Janice: To either relay, or anchor... or carry something shiny?
(10:47:37 PM) Spot: "Nope, not really." *shrugs and starts ferrying people, starting with the count.
(10:48:11 PM) Cagliostro: "I can create a shiny on the other side, so as long as that works, we should be fine."
(10:48:28 PM) dkap: You only need the shiny in the non-umbral side.
(10:51:55 PM) dkap: Shall we hang here? It's just before 11 ...
(10:52:51 PM) Delna: I'm good for that
(10:52:57 PM) Mistress_Janice: 'sfine by me.
(10:53:40 PM) dkap: Then, I declare it a game. I'm off to go make some food, so I'll leave this open if folks want to chat more ... but ... I'm going to feed the GM.
(10:54:01 PM) Mistress_Janice: Feed the GM!
(10:54:42 PM) Spot: bye!
(10:54:44 PM) Cagliostro: should, that works
(10:54:50 PM) Cagliostro: you can puppet me next week if I don't make the game
(10:55:06 PM) Cagliostro left the room (quit: Quit: Leaving.).
(10:55:21 PM) Delna: night!
(10:55:21 PM) dkap: Indeed.
(10:55:26 PM) dkap: Good night!
(10:55:36 PM) Delna left the room (quit: Quit: ChatZilla 0.9.86 [Firefox 3.6.6/20100625231939]).
(10:55:44 PM) Mistress_Janice: G'night, DKap.
(10:55:53 PM) dkap: Good night moon.
(10:56:06 PM) Spot left the room.
(10:56:16 PM) Mistress_Janice left the room (quit: Quit: ChatZilla 0.9.86 [Firefox 3.6.6/20100625231939]).
