(08:10:25 PM) Spot [~chatzilla@c-98-217-48-4.hsd1.ma.comcast.net] entered the room.
(08:11:10 PM) Delna [~chatzilla@c-71-228-89-86.hsd1.fl.comcast.net] entered the room.
(08:11:29 PM) Delna: hello!
(08:11:42 PM) dkap: Greetings!
(08:11:58 PM) Spot: hi there
(08:12:53 PM) Delna: I return from my theatre dungeon =)
(08:13:09 PM) Delna: How was Pennsic?
(08:13:10 PM) dkap: Excellent! I mean, did you want to get out of the dungeon?
(08:13:16 PM) dkap: Most excellent.
(08:14:02 PM) Delna: Heh, well that dungeon is great, but not as good as others. And I did want to get out to come back to game
(08:14:13 PM) dkap: Ahh ... excellent.
(08:15:05 PM) Delna: I also got a new job since last I spoke to everyone, working at a college. Yay for fun jobs : )
(08:15:18 PM) dkap: Excellent.
(08:15:47 PM) dkap: Doing what, if I might ask?
(08:18:26 PM) Delna: Mostly reception, answering questions for parents and students. And since I like working with people it works out well for me
(08:18:41 PM) Delna: No more icky bank, woohoo!
(08:19:04 PM) Spot: i am still stuck at a bank
(08:19:23 PM) Delna: =(
(08:20:04 PM) dkap: Banks ... herm ... they keep coming up in my life ...
(08:20:19 PM) dkap: Keith works in a bank as well.
(08:20:55 PM) Spot: yeah I know, Keith and I have studied simultaneously for various certifications
(08:22:10 PM) Delna: I was up for a permanent position which would require me to get certifications before they decided to hire someone else. I am definitely somewhat relieved I will not have to do that studying anymore
(08:22:29 PM) Delna: I have heard it is long and tedious
(08:23:29 PM) Delna: Did I miss anything during the last two Tuesday sessions? There was nothing posted that I saw
(08:23:49 PM) dkap: I posted two weeks ago earlier today .. umm ... let me check.
(08:25:03 PM) dkap: Whoops ... now it's posted.
(08:25:36 PM) dkap: Better?
(08:26:14 PM) dkap: *sigh* I put dashes in it's name. Whoops.
(08:26:44 PM) dkap: And last week no one showed up for game.
(08:26:58 PM) Spot: I logged in!
(08:27:03 PM) Spot: And waited for a while
(08:27:06 PM) Spot: and logged out
(08:27:15 PM) Spot: I must have just missed you somewhen
(08:27:23 PM) dkap: Ahh ... I must have missed you.
(08:27:25 PM) dkap: Sad.
(08:27:27 PM) dkap: Sad for me.
(08:29:59 PM) Delna: Aahaa! Found it
(08:30:17 PM) Delna: Thanks =)
(08:33:09 PM) dkap: Not a problem.
(08:33:55 PM) dkap: Actually, I should probably read it as well ...
(08:35:09 PM) Mistress_Janice [~chatzilla@pool-98-110-171-21.bstnma.fios.verizon.net] entered the room.
(08:35:33 PM) Mistress_Janice: Hello?
(08:35:42 PM) dkap: Ahh ... greetings.
(08:35:46 PM) dkap: Did the trouncing go well?
(08:36:08 PM) Mistress_Janice: It went okay. Unfortunately, running with Drassir means no xp as he outlevels us all.
(08:37:29 PM) dkap: So he gets it all?
(08:38:36 PM) Mistress_Janice: I don't think he gets any either, as he outleveled the quest, too.
(08:38:49 PM) Mistress_Janice: He's busy farming for items he can't find anywhere else.
(08:39:20 PM) dkap: Old Mac Drassir had a farm? EIEIO?
(08:51:06 PM) dkap: So, no shit there I was ...
(08:51:22 PM) dkap: I mean ... Delna, I believe you were about to do something at the end of the last game, as the GM's puppet?
(08:51:59 PM) Delna: Hmm, I haven't caught up to the end. What was my puppet going to do?
(08:52:20 PM) dkap: It's better to wait ...
(08:52:22 PM) dkap: *grin*
(08:52:26 PM) dkap: They set you up, nicely.
(08:55:04 PM) Mistress_Janice: Testing, testing...
(08:55:15 PM) Delna: Uhohh, that grin sounds...perhaps dangerous
(08:56:13 PM) Mistress_Janice: Five, fnord, three, two, one...
(08:57:11 PM) dkap: You missed a number.
(08:58:37 PM) Mistress_Janice: I miss nothing! I see all!
(08:59:03 PM) Mistress_Janice: I even see the fnords! Look, there's one!
(08:59:48 PM) dkap: See the what? You need an object in that sentence.
(09:00:55 PM) Mistress_Janice: ...So, you can't see them. They're going to GIT you!
(09:01:13 PM) Mistress_Janice: It's sad that the most I talk in this game is OOC.
(09:01:28 PM) dkap: Actually, that's normal for this game, I believe.
(09:01:33 PM) dkap: Right Spot?
(09:01:41 PM) Mistress_Janice: Not normal for *me*, though.
(09:01:44 PM) Spot: Arooo?
(09:01:50 PM) Mistress_Janice: I tend toward more active chars...
(09:01:57 PM) ***Mistress_Janice pets Spot.
(09:02:14 PM) ***Spot wags his tail and pretends he's not.
(09:02:57 PM) dkap: You do tend toward more active characters. What, for example, are you active on, at the moment?
(09:03:32 PM) dkap: I'm happy to run back-story (or fore-story) while people are catching up.
(09:03:41 PM) dkap: Or answering questions (both in game and out ...)
(09:04:34 PM) Mistress_Janice: I.... Sam's Savage Worlds game, Star Fantasy, Shangrila, the DDO stuff, been invited into a fellowship when LOTRO goes active in a coupla weeks fer free... Ummm...
(09:04:36 PM) dkap: Including ones about the "spark" chef.
(09:05:07 PM) Delna: (Also, caught up now. I am to watch life lines is what I gathered)
(09:05:08 PM) dkap: Ahh ... no, I mean ... what is Mistress Janice active doing at the moment ...
(09:05:35 PM) dkap: To open yourself (or at least, your sight) to all of the various things, gathering and not.
(09:06:10 PM) Mistress_Janice: ...As far as I can tell, Janice is following her father around. Her skills don't seem to lend themselves to our present endeavours.
(09:07:00 PM) dkap: Right, but she is also the controller of a vast information network, and has her own projects (whatever they might be) bubbling away at the moment, I'm sure.
(09:07:31 PM) dkap: There is the whole snake-headed lady to get to know, on many levels ...
(09:07:56 PM) Mistress_Janice: Oh, Spot, a story I recalled the last time. Playing a Bastet with a bunch of puppies, at one point we decided we could use the cat's eyes to jump into the Umbra. Fortunately, the roll was made... so no puppy buried halfway through my head. :D
(09:07:57 PM) dkap: There are all sorts of things to probe, to communicate with, to try and take apart, or put together in ways that others haven't figured out yet ...
(09:08:17 PM) Spot: lol
(09:09:13 PM) dkap: Isn't that how a Jelicle cat jumps to the moon?
(09:09:17 PM) Mistress_Janice: From the background I was given on Janice, most of her projects are all Shadow-local. As are in her info sources, with a few family exceptions.
(09:09:36 PM) dkap: And, indeed, you are in that local shadow.
(09:10:08 PM) Mistress_Janice: Which is why I have no complaints, this is clearly important to said Shadow. Just... don't feel like I'm contributing.
(09:10:09 PM) dkap: This _is_ your home. Granted, it's been somewhat relocated, but ... relocated with just about everything intact.
(09:10:58 PM) dkap: You could be using your network to search out coincidences, or the histories of the spots we are discovering, either by your sources, or your magic, or your willingness to communicate.
(09:11:04 PM) dkap: There are patters for the seeing.
(09:12:03 PM) Mistress_Janice: I thought the stuff we're looking into is A) outside the experience of my info-net, and B) entirely without precedent. Didn't figure there was any way they could help.
(09:12:17 PM) Mistress_Janice: Um, that was supposed to be B )
(09:12:59 PM) dkap: These things have been going on for ages ... The snake-headed woman was trapped in that particular house of mirrors for at least 300 years ...
(09:13:07 PM) dkap: It didn't show up overnight.
(09:13:25 PM) dkap: And the blue boy and the brown boy have been fighting for time out of mind (at least for them ...)
(09:15:19 PM) Mistress_Janice: I thought what we were after were consequences of the shadow's peeling and placement here on Darkover.
(09:17:42 PM) dkap: They could be consequences of that, or they could be something else entirely.
(09:17:52 PM) dkap: No one has looked for information.
(09:18:33 PM) Mistress_Janice: Between my info-net and Father's, shouldn't we have already been knowledgeable about said things?
(09:19:19 PM) Mistress_Janice: At least, the ones that predate the disaster?
(09:24:10 PM) dkap: They might, should either of you have queried them ..
(09:24:17 PM) dkap: And it depends on the query ...
(09:24:48 PM) Mistress_Janice: I figured Dad would have asked, as he seems to have some idea what he's after out here. All right, I'll think about what to ask who.
(09:25:32 PM) dkap: Perhaps he figured you would have asked ... or is leaving you space to shine?
(09:26:05 PM) dkap: He's got no clue, and is simply presuming that his ... luck will bring all of you to the right places.
(09:26:35 PM) Mistress_Janice: ...we're all going to die.
(09:26:49 PM) dkap: Possibly ... ask Delna. *grin*
(09:31:29 PM) Spot: speak for yourself
(09:31:32 PM) Delna: Heh, well, a number of us have already faced that fork :P
(09:31:57 PM) dkap: And continued down the road.
(09:32:47 PM) Delna: because, why not?
(09:33:27 PM) dkap: Exactly.
(09:34:05 PM) Mistress_Janice: I'd rather not die. It's unladylike.
(09:34:31 PM) dkap: Yeah, if you die, you just end up in the Jewel, you've walked the pattern ...
(09:35:13 PM) dkap: Lately the Court Necromancer of Amber hasn't been incredibly active ... he's still there.
(09:35:20 PM) Mistress_Janice: SHHH! Don't let my Father hear you say that!
(09:35:38 PM) dkap: True enough. He doesn't even know what the patter is, presently ... *grin*
(09:35:58 PM) dkap: In fact, for an amber campaign, we are very short of Amberites at the moment ... *grin*
(09:36:11 PM) dkap: So, Delna, have you decided what you are going to do?
(09:36:29 PM) dkap: Mistress_Janice: are there questions you want to have your research team investigate?
(09:36:50 PM) dkap: Spot? Any good prey to be gnawing on?
(09:36:52 PM) Mistress_Janice: I... history of the empty area the boys were fighting in?
(09:37:10 PM) Spot is now known as Auricle
(09:37:18 PM) Auricle: And if you end up in the jewel......
(09:37:20 PM) Auricle: ....somthing.
(09:37:28 PM) ***Auricle looks blank and wanders off.
(09:37:32 PM) Auricle is now known as Spot
(09:37:48 PM) dkap: Thank you Auricle! So very true to form ... *grin*
(09:38:55 PM) dkap: Mistress_Janice ducks aside for a few moments, to use a telephone ... (I believe you can find a land-line not that far away.)
(09:39:47 PM) dkap: And comes back knowing that she has put a property-search into action, and ... perhaps, requested a minion, to run the errands for you?
(09:39:57 PM) Mistress_Janice: Errands?
(09:40:29 PM) dkap: Well ... like going back and forth to the phone, going to local government seats, and the like? Or are you going to do all the foot-work yourself?
(09:42:12 PM) Mistress_Janice: I dont know that we've got any need for that, at least now. The Umbral play makes non-Umbral contacts difficult... and I think Janice might welcome the chance to feel useful, rather than just ordering a minion around. Besides, the games folk like us tend to play tend to be fatal to lesser folk, and I doubt she'd risk her people. They're not battle minions.
(09:42:56 PM) dkap: Indeed. a very Child of the Count attitude. I like it.
(09:43:11 PM) Mistress_Janice: We're also place-hopping, so going back and forth to the phone would get lengthy. I'll call in later.
(09:43:41 PM) dkap: You could always simply open a gate to the nearest (or a preferential) phone, or simply, face to face with your minions, if such is your desire, and pattern ...
(09:44:16 PM) dkap: Since there isn't a ban, or lack of Magic around to be tapped, it's actually quite plentiful here ...
(09:45:13 PM) Mistress_Janice: Can I gate from the Umbra? I must admit, rituals take a lot longer than what Father seems to be able to manage, so I've been letting him handle that end of things.
(09:45:45 PM) dkap: There is the social stigma of not being blatant about it, but, in this particular company, it doesn't seem to be a problem.
(09:46:00 PM) dkap: Not from the Umbra, but you haven't gone back through to there, yet.
(09:46:27 PM) Delna: Was I supposed to be looking at the dragonfly's lifeline? I was a little confused what was suggested there
(09:46:41 PM) Mistress_Janice: Yah, unique company. Cell phone? If I don't have one, I'm sure Father can conjure one.
(09:47:18 PM) dkap: They don't exist in this mileau, alas.
(09:47:31 PM) dkap: Which is why he often uses magic and radios.
(09:47:49 PM) Mistress_Janice: Gotcha. Short-wave radio set?
(09:48:01 PM) dkap: You were supposed to be looking at the lifeline of whatever was coalessing, and that of the blue boy.
(09:48:22 PM) dkap: Yes, short-wave would work.
(09:48:33 PM) Mistress_Janice: Wasn't there something we were considering doing that might endanger the boy, like taking him away from the dragonfly?
(09:50:35 PM) Delna: Ahh, that makes sense I guess. Are the blue boy and the coalessing in any kind of sight range?
(09:51:03 PM) dkap: BOth are.
(09:52:15 PM) dkap: The boy is asleep right in front of you, the dragonfly about to be taken into the Umbra, and the coalessence is right there, pouring in from the ground that the old playground equipment is on.
(09:52:49 PM) Delna: Cool. If I am not in that place I will ask Spot to transport me and I will see if I can tell anything about the coalessing's life..if I can tell anything
(09:52:59 PM) Cagliostro [~sgorton@c-66-31-32-142.hsd1.ma.comcast.net] entered the room.
(09:53:16 PM) ***Mistress_Janice asks Spot, "If I get a handheld phone, could you bind a Weaver spirit into it, so it wouldn't require mundanities like cell-phone towers?"
(09:53:16 PM) dkap: Good evening good Count.
(09:53:20 PM) Cagliostro: my apologies; forgot it was Tuesday
(09:53:29 PM) ***Mistress_Janice shrieks and puts her clothes back on.
(09:53:41 PM) Cagliostro: oh, it's one of -those- games.
(09:54:21 PM) Mistress_Janice: Hasn't it always been? My favourite line from the first time I was involved... "My Daddy said I'm not supposed to kiss you anymore..."
(09:56:15 PM) ***Spot shows Janice a cell phone. "It already has a spirit in it, if you have a network for it to connect to. Otherwise...yeah, probably."
(09:56:54 PM) Mistress_Janice: I'm pretty sure the local network is still intact, and worldwide.
(09:57:21 PM) Spot: "Who are we calling then?"
(09:57:24 PM) dkap: I don't think there is a cell-phone network here?
(09:57:45 PM) Cagliostro: (where are we?)
(09:57:58 PM) ***Mistress_Janice shakes her head. "Put some queries in motion. Something like that will make contact easier than finding a landline each time."
(09:58:17 PM) Mistress_Janice: About where we were at the end of the last game. We're not very proactive. :D
(09:59:02 PM) dkap: Park, by the blue boy, the brown boy having been moved (unless I have that backward)
(09:59:27 PM) dkap: Both boys sleeping, the dragonfly not showing any sign of life.
(09:59:30 PM) Mistress_Janice: Does there need to be a separate network? I thought cells just connected to the existing network. With a Weaver interface, getting the signal where it should be shouldn't be an issue.
(09:59:32 PM) dkap: The thing coalessing.
(09:59:51 PM) dkap: I believe the cellphone is an umbral phone.
(09:59:52 PM) Cagliostro: ah, yes.
(10:00:00 PM) dkap: There just isn't an umbral network here ...
(10:00:25 PM) dkap: As in the phone can call ... well ... itself. But then you get a busy signal.
(10:00:41 PM) Spot: it allows you to connect from the umbra to an existing cell network
(10:00:52 PM) Cagliostro: "We are in a fairly isolated area. We could probably use radio. Radio's gotten more useful, since the world flattened and there was a large dome overhead to bounce signals off of."
(10:00:57 PM) Spot: it doesn't need an umbral network, it connects through the gauntlet
(10:01:37 PM) Mistress_Janice: I'm more looking for something that will work in the physical world, just wireless. I guess I can go with shortwave, it just seems a bit bulky.
(10:02:22 PM) Mistress_Janice: ..and less private than I'd prefer.
(10:02:25 PM) ***Spot shrugs.
(10:03:07 PM) Cagliostro: "That's where encryption comes in."
(10:03:23 PM) Cagliostro: "But I'm sure you could do something interesting with magic, as well."
(10:04:18 PM) Mistress_Janice: "Which will take time to set up with the folk I'd be communicating. As will any magic I might try - and my magic's not working well in the Umbra, which we continue to return to. I'm trying to make this easier, not more complex."
(10:05:01 PM) Spot: "It's weird your magic doesn't work well in the Umbra. Usually we have problems with mages' magic working TOO well.
(10:05:20 PM) ***Mistress_Janice 's turn to shrug.
(10:07:52 PM) Delna: Does the thing coalessing have a life line that I can see at this time?
(10:09:30 PM) dkap: How are you going to open to it?
(10:10:18 PM) Cagliostro: "That might be something to try; we could ask one of the mage refugees to demonstrate their magic in the Umbra."
(10:10:27 PM) Delna: Me? ..I'm not sure I know what that means exactly
(10:10:54 PM) dkap: Well don't you have to look at their soul-line or something?
(10:12:01 PM) Delna: It's just kind of something I see, kind of like a shading over everything I see at any given time. Like I am wearing sunglasses of death..
(10:12:13 PM) Delna: That I can't take off
(10:12:58 PM) dkap: Ahh .. gotcha. I thought it worked differently. So, no, you can't see enough of the thing that is coalessing to figure out if it will live or die soon.
(10:14:05 PM) ***Mistress_Janice turns to Cagliostro. "Father, do we have time enough for a full ritual divination on... whatever's coming through? Or are we doing more hopping soon?"
(10:14:10 PM) Delna: I was thinking that might be the case. What about the blue boy. Are people preparing to take the dragonfly somewhere right now?
(10:14:48 PM) Delna: I will tell everyone I can not tell anything on the thing coalessing right now
(10:14:56 PM) dkap: Mistress_Janice, you could always just re-cast a voice and image "gate" between you and whomever is near your desk in your library at the time. I believe that is well within your character, and have done it often enough before that your people know to look for it.
(10:15:26 PM) Mistress_Janice: Doesn't that cross the 'gauche' line? Or is that desk in a private place?
(10:16:33 PM) Cagliostro: "I'm not very good at divinations... unfortunately my scrying expert is unwell."
(10:16:52 PM) Cagliostro: "My plan was to check in around the time whatever manifests does, and deal with it then."
(10:17:32 PM) ***Mistress_Janice smiles. "I am - but as you know, most of my magic is ritual, and thus lengthy. I know it'll give me enough time, it's moving really slowly. But I'd rather not lose the rest of you if we're moving again soon."
(10:18:33 PM) dkap: Your desk is your sanctum sanctorum. it's about as private to you and your staff as you can get.
(10:18:43 PM) dkap: And this is something that wouldn't take you much time to do, or to hang.
(10:19:54 PM) Mistress_Janice: Hokay, then that's how I told them I'd be in touch, got a guesstimate so I'd know when to check back in for a preliminary report. Cag, the request was for a history of the 'empty' area the boys were fighting in, to see if we can get any additional info that might clarify what we're dealing with.
(10:21:46 PM) Cagliostro: "It's probably been suppressed, possibly lost in the wars... I'll ask my sources, and you can ask yours."
(10:22:13 PM) ***Mistress_Janice has asked, is giving them time to look.
(10:22:16 PM) ***Cagliostro contacts Jodo and asks for any more details they can find about the 'empty' area we're currently standing in - signs of when things were concealed, who concealed them, etc.
(10:22:27 PM) dkap: Not a problem, preliminary research will be available within the hour, and any in-depth material, or anomalies will be reported then as well, as any hold-ups.
(10:23:11 PM) Cagliostro: I will mention to them that it's quite possible someone is actively monitoring for people looking for those records. So be careful.
(10:23:28 PM) dkap: Jodo acknowledges, and lets you know it will happen as soon as the current ... excitement is over.
(10:25:35 PM) dkap: So, we have Delna reporting life on the boy, nothing on his umbral tied being (neither life nor death) and the coalessed being is not solid enough for a look-see.
(10:28:57 PM) ***Cagliostro hms.
(10:29:40 PM) Cagliostro: "I think I will take a quick step back to the castle to check on this excitement - some people should keep an eye on things, but certainly some people should feel free to come with me."
(10:30:04 PM) Mistress_Janice: "Then I will remain, and start my divination."
(10:30:25 PM) Spot: "I'd like to see you do your divination"
(10:30:44 PM) Delna: Hmm, excitement at the castle..if I am not needed here I would like to see what is going on there
(10:30:54 PM) ***Cagliostro opens a gate to the desert at the top of the ramp, takes whoever is going through, then closes the first gate and opens up a second gate to the Castle and goes through that.
(10:31:22 PM) Delna: If we are holding off on moving the dragonfly anywhere then perhaps I will go with?
(10:31:45 PM) Cagliostro: "Certainly."
(10:32:26 PM) Cagliostro: We are going to Cagliostro's castle, not Delna's, but this is probably not apparent until the second gate opens.
(10:32:57 PM) Cagliostro: Cagliostro's castle is a well-maintained baroque structure with some quite tall towers, in the center of a lake in a picturesque mountain valley.
(10:33:06 PM) Delna: ahhaa, that makes more sense.
(10:33:28 PM) ***Mistress_Janice wastes no time, beginning by drawing a circle around the playground equipment. "Perhaps you can give me some idea," she says to Spot as she works, "why my magic seems to be more difficult on the other side." Circle complete, she starts calling the quarters to protect them from whatever might be inside. "Divinations can be general, and this one will be at least a little, but I've got some...
(10:33:29 PM) ***Mistress_Janice ...questions to ask. What is it? Why is it here? Was it trapped here, and if so by whom? What connection did/does it have to the combatants?" She looks to Spot. "Any you can think of I should add to the list?"
(10:34:46 PM) Spot: "I don't know why magic is harder on the other side; it shouldn't be, you should be able to tap the spirit world; most mages can. Your magic must be...weird."
(10:34:56 PM) dkap: Count and Delna, there is a formal reception going on of a sort, and the Count just arrived at a raised throne and sat (back?) down on it.
(10:35:12 PM) dkap: Count and Delna: there seems to be a guest of honor to his right.
(10:35:30 PM) dkap: Delna, yes, he looks exactly like the gentleman whom you have been working with this entire time.
(10:35:34 PM) ***Mistress_Janice adds reflectively, "What does it intend when it becomes manifest?" She chuckles at Spot's comment, and nods. "It's a local version, and requires more... support, more trappings, than Father's seems to."
(10:36:25 PM) dkap: Spot, Mistress_Janice: the circle has firmed, and the quarters have arrived to stand their posts and guard.
(10:37:02 PM) ***Spot sits down to just observe.
(10:37:04 PM) Cagliostro: the Count Cagliostro standing next to Delna quietly slips out of the room
(10:37:05 PM) Delna: So I'm seeing two Counts?
(10:37:15 PM) Cagliostro: and finds a staff member to get a quick debriefing.
(10:37:16 PM) Delna: Or was?..
(10:37:27 PM) Cagliostro: was; you can stay in the room or follow the Count.
(10:37:38 PM) ***Mistress_Janice points to the quarters, and tells Spot, "These are the sorts of spirits I call. Not so much 'spirits' as... archetypes."
(10:38:21 PM) Delna: Follow the count, I don't know what is going on and would rather be with someone who might
(10:38:27 PM) Spot: GM: Is there actually spirits there?
(10:39:04 PM) ***Mistress_Janice begins the incantations of inquiry, letting Spot look as she will.
(10:39:06 PM) dkap: Count and Delna: I'm sorry, the reception is outside, but yes, you can pull a staff-member away to find out what is going on.
(10:39:37 PM) dkap: Spot, there is _something_ there, but it feels closer to Luna, manifestation, rather than actual spirits.
(10:40:17 PM) Cagliostro: aha, okay. I thought I was coming close to bilocation.
(10:42:23 PM) dkap: Count and Delna: The staff member carefully calls the Count "Jodo", and mentions that the Guest of Honor, claims to only be passing through, but ... did deserve to be shown the proper respect, on his way.
(10:42:30 PM) Mistress_Janice: Save up those points - Mikail wanted to buy himself named & numbered.
(10:44:25 PM) ***Cagliostro checks into the Guest of Honor's visit briefly - nothing untoward? Local dignitary?
(10:44:35 PM) dkap: Count and Delna: The staff member mentions that the guest of honor is "The emissary of the Princess, returning a lost sword."
(10:44:53 PM) Cagliostro: "Oh, indeed. Yes."
(10:44:55 PM) dkap: Count, not ... exactly local, no. *grin*
(10:45:17 PM) Mistress_Janice: Visiting indignitary.
(10:45:49 PM) Cagliostro: "Be sure the Count knows that if it would be helpful, I can take a break from my current tasks to assist him with his dignitary."
(10:46:33 PM) Cagliostro: to Delna: "Shall we take a brief detour to talk to one of the mages from your world?"
(10:46:59 PM) Mistress_Janice: Where is Delna from?
(10:47:41 PM) dkap: Delna is from one of the many rescued White-Wolf based shadows, just before Armageddon-events spread across all of them, when shadow was going away.
(10:48:32 PM) dkap: Count and Delna: The Staff member presumes that if the Count needed his faithful servant Jodo, he knows how to get a hold of him.
(10:50:05 PM) Cagliostro: "Indeed, but he may believe my current tasks are more urgent than they actually are."
(10:50:15 PM) Delna: ...I'm not sure we can what with it being largely destroyed..
(10:50:44 PM) Cagliostro: "There were five mage refugees. I resettled them... away from your castle. For various reasons."
(10:51:00 PM) Cagliostro: actually, cagliostro is slick enough that he would say "The count resettled them"
(10:51:01 PM) dkap: Count and Delna: The staff member will bring Jodo's information to the Count's attention.
(10:51:11 PM) Cagliostro: thank the staff member, open a gate to Al-Andalus
(10:51:18 PM) Cagliostro: whichever city I settled the mages into
(10:51:43 PM) Delna: "Ah, Um, ok then"
(10:51:46 PM) Cagliostro: I'll pick a likely candidate who might be willing to help. If I don't know anything about them, I'll pick one at random.
(10:51:47 PM) dkap: Count and Delna: The staff member bows, and heads off. You open the gate to the appropriate city.
(10:52:52 PM) dkap: Count and Delna: There is nothing out of the ordinary (at least not apparently out of the ordinary) in the town you've opened to. The only thing is that Delna is still wide awake, not tired, and has been hoping from day to night without a problem.
(10:53:34 PM) dkap: Mistress_Janice and Spot, the circle becomes a screen upon which murky images begin to appear.
(10:53:50 PM) ***Spot hmms and watches it closely
(10:54:08 PM) Mistress_Janice: GM: I presume this is not out of the ordinary?
(10:55:28 PM) dkap: Mistress_Janice: not too out of the ordinary, usually you get much more definitive images, these are ... well ... more murky.
(10:56:01 PM) Cagliostro: to Delna: "The Princess is a ... very old and powerful person, from the Courts of Chaos. I will be quite interested in the visit, but I didn't want to get too close to myself."
(10:56:48 PM) dkap: Mistress_Janice and Spot, the images seem to be that of confinement, and then that of a bottle, with the battling boys as the stopper.
(10:57:02 PM) ***Mistress_Janice tunes as best she can, commenting to Spot, "Usually this works more... clearly. We may be dealing with a power able to cloak itself, or something that's been deliberately hidden by some agency." She sets up a subsidiary recorder on the spell, so she can review in case they miss something the first time.
(10:57:03 PM) Delna: "About your having two selves...should I even ask?"
(10:57:40 PM) Mistress_Janice: Any details on that confinement? What might have done the confining?
(10:57:48 PM) dkap: Mistress_Janice: A recorder is part of everything you do, I think I forgot that bit, when telling you about your character. You have an archival fetish, so you record just about everything that goes on around you.
(10:57:52 PM) Cagliostro: "It can be quite useful to be in two places at the same time. Or, at least, to appear to."
(10:57:55 PM) ***Cagliostro winks at Delna.
(10:58:27 PM) Delna: "Yeah..I can imagine."
(10:58:28 PM) ***Spot hmms again.
(10:58:38 PM) Spot: GM: DO I sense anything trying to interfere?
(10:59:07 PM) dkap: Mistress_Janice and Spot, The bottle seems to be shaped much like the land you are standing upon, but ... there seems to be the hint of a church, or monastery in the background that is not here.
(10:59:39 PM) Mistress_Janice: Hopefully said structure will figure in the info my people are gathering.
(10:59:46 PM) dkap: Spot, you do not sense anything trying to interfere, nor are the guardians seeming to struggle with anything, nor is the circle showing any impingements.
(11:00:19 PM) Delna: To the Count, "So, what do we need from the mages?"
(11:01:01 PM) Cagliostro: "Well, the trick of performing magic in the Umbra would be nice."
(11:01:07 PM) dkap: As you walk down the street, heading for? Or are you going to do something right here?
(11:01:24 PM) ***Mistress_Janice murmurs to Spot, "Whoever did this took pains to cover their tracks. I'm glad we're getting anything, but I'm not sure we'll get a lot of answers."
(11:01:29 PM) dkap: Sorry, the last was to the Count and Delna.
(11:01:57 PM) Cagliostro: to Delna: "But I'll settle for a second perspective on the becoming, and perhaps establishing some communication between you, Spot, and this mage."
(11:02:20 PM) Cagliostro: gm: head for a mage location, if I know of one, or head to a local minder, if I don't.
(11:02:25 PM) Cagliostro: and then knock on the front door.
(11:03:09 PM) Spot: "I don't think I could improve on it, pretty, but I can try if you want."
(11:03:28 PM) dkap: The door is answered by someone who is obviously an apprentice in the ways of magic. Right down to the scorch-marks on the clothing, the vague smell of potions gone off, and the slight twitch to the fingers.
(11:04:21 PM) ***Mistress_Janice waves a gracious hand. "If you think you can clean it up, get us more, then by all means, feel free." She strengthens her grip on the spell, in case whatever Spot tries makes it unwieldy.
(11:04:23 PM) dkap: Mistress_Janice and Spot, the picture shifts, to the coalessing form, laying waste to the countryside. You don't know if this is a future vision, or a past one.
(11:04:54 PM) Mistress_Janice: Can we tell what it is/was? Form, essence, anything?
(11:05:48 PM) dkap: Not really, there is ... well ... a lack of physicality, just the presence, and devastation.
(11:06:36 PM) dkap: Hrm ... I really am slipping:
(11:06:36 PM) dkap: Count and Delna, The door is answered by someone who is obviously an apprentice in the ways of magic. Right down to the scorch-marks on the clothing, the vague smell of potions gone off, and the slight twitch to the fingers.
(11:06:43 PM) Spot: GM: Do I think I can strengthen it?
(11:06:54 PM) Mistress_Janice: an we tell anything from the devastation itself? Is it burning, crushing, dissolution?
(11:06:58 PM) dkap: Mistress_Janice and Spot: Not really, there is ... well ... a lack of physicality, just the presence, and devastation.
(11:07:01 PM) Cagliostro: gm: bow slightly, introduce myself as Count Cagliostro, introduce Delna, and ask if I can step inside a moment.
(11:07:44 PM) dkap: Count and Delna: The apprentice almost falls over himself, inviting his Master's Patron in.
(11:08:28 PM) dkap: Mistress_Janice: Rampant destruction, burning, trampling, over-running, razing, the like.
(11:08:55 PM) dkap: Spot: you have no idea how, but you can put some of your theurge background into it.
(11:09:09 PM) Cagliostro: after the door is closed, ask to speak to his master, if possible.
(11:10:24 PM) dkap: Count and Delna: He incants a pitcher, that smells overly citrus and a plate of something you suspect was intended to be either cookies or a cake, and changed it's mind halfway through, as he runs off to fetch his Master.
(11:11:24 PM) dkap: Spot: it's like calling to a moon-bridge, tapping yourself and the Caern for power to pour into it, but there is no Caern, and no moon-bridge, of course, just yourself, the power around you, and this working.
(11:12:38 PM) Cagliostro: gm: do I recognize the techniques at all?
(11:13:03 PM) dkap: Count and Delna: a moment or so later, one of the rescued mages comes down to see you, sees the refreshments, banishes them with a wave of his hand, and conjours some tea and small pastries, in the style of the Aribic traditions of the city you are in.
(11:13:44 PM) dkap: Count: you recognize the apprentice gated it in, and the Mage conjured it.
(11:14:22 PM) ***Mistress_Janice seems to be trying to puzzle out what's being seen. "Very... indiscriminate." She looks more closely, to see if the trapped thing wasn't acting on its own, but was rather inspiring folk below who then caused the destruction.
(11:14:23 PM) dkap: Count and Delna: the Mage makes shooing motions to his apprentice and offers the two of you the drink and the food, and chairs.
(11:14:55 PM) Cagliostro: accept the chairs, the food, and the drink.
(11:15:05 PM) dkap: There is a pulse of anger from the colaessing spirit, and the vision begins to be covered in fire.
(11:15:22 PM) dkap: Mistress_Janice and Spot: There is a pulse of anger from the colaessing spirit, and the vision begins to be covered in fire
(11:15:43 PM) Mistress_Janice: Did it seem to react to the words I just spoke? Is this unintentionally a two-way street?
(11:15:44 PM) Cagliostro: the Count will introduce Delna as a responsible member of the vampires.
(11:15:51 PM) Cagliostro: and a fellow refugee.
(11:16:10 PM) dkap: Count and Delna: He lets you sip and nibble, and then politely asks "What great honor has brought my good patron to see such a humble Mage as myself? What service might I do you good sir?"
(11:16:47 PM) dkap: Mistress_Janice: It's right here, inside the scrying with you, and therefore, might be a reflection of the future, of it's intent.
(11:17:14 PM) ***Mistress_Janice murmurs to Spot, "I think these are its intentions, not its past."
(11:17:40 PM) dkap: Count and Delna: The Mage is delighted to meet you, and glances at the obvious daylight outside that the two of you walked in, during.
(11:17:57 PM) Spot: (sorry was relocating in the house)
(11:18:07 PM) Spot: I'll try to make the image clearer then
(11:18:10 PM) dkap: (Not a problem. Wireless is fun that way.)
(11:18:30 PM) Cagliostro: the Count will briefly recap the incident with Delna and Meiglan, which involved the trapped gorgon that was freed, and will allow how that has caused him to spend some time searching the "Umbra" (the count's polite hesitation will indicate his unfamiliarity with the concept) for other trapped spirits.
(11:19:49 PM) Cagliostro: "My daughter and myself have been encountering constraints on our magic while in the Umbra. It happens that the werewolf who has been assisting us mentioned that this was unusual in his experience - mages typically have the opposite problem."
(11:20:40 PM) Cagliostro: "I was wondering if you would be willing to test the differences in our techniques, and perhaps illustrate what I am doing wrong, if that is an easy matter. Your perspective would also be welcome on another odd occurence, local to this world, that we are investigating."
(11:21:42 PM) dkap: Count and Delna: Mage: "I'd be happy to help you in your researches. I do not believe my apprentice is far enough along to be useful, please, give me but a moment to make sure he is seen to, and I will, at once, set forth to put my skills to whatever use they might be put to. My learning has increased tenfold in this new land, without the strife, without the need for struggle, and for the embracement of what I do in the fabric of daily life."
(11:22:48 PM) Cagliostro: "Of course, please, wrap up what you must."
(11:22:50 PM) dkap: Count and Delna: Mage: "It may be that I am almost uniquely suited to the task, my path has been a comparison of exactly that, what we were and the ways things are different here. You have come to the right one of our number."
(11:22:56 PM) Delna: (As much as I do not want to leave, I think it is time for me to call it a night. Delna may not need sleep anymore, but I am not so fortunate :P)
(11:23:09 PM) Mistress_Janice: It is kinda late.
(11:23:19 PM) Spot: zzzzzzzzzzzz
(11:23:19 PM) Cagliostro: sure. probably a good place to hang.
(11:23:24 PM) Delna: I hate to break up such a good roll
(11:23:26 PM) dkap: Ahh ... indeed, we can hang things here ...
(11:23:48 PM) dkap: And hopefully we will find the role again, when we meet again, in a week!
(11:24:14 PM) Mistress_Janice: Crush, smash, burn... I'm in the groove!
(11:24:53 PM) dkap: Excellent!
(11:25:00 PM) dkap: Let's wrap then!
(11:25:13 PM) Mistress_Janice: Later, folks!
(11:25:19 PM) Delna: Thanks and good night all!
(11:25:38 PM) Delna left the room (quit: Quit: ChatZilla 0.9.86 [Firefox 3.6.8/20100722155716]).
