(08:10:25 PM) Spot [~chatzilla@c-98-217-48-4.hsd1.ma.comcast.net] entered the room.
(08:11:10 PM) Delna [~chatzilla@c-71-228-89-86.hsd1.fl.comcast.net] entered the room.
(08:11:29 PM) Delna: hello!
(08:11:42 PM) dkap: Greetings!
(08:11:58 PM) Spot: hi there
(08:12:53 PM) Delna: I return from my theatre dungeon =)
(08:13:09 PM) Delna: How was Pennsic?
(08:13:10 PM) dkap: Excellent! I mean, did you want to get out of the dungeon?
(08:13:16 PM) dkap: Most excellent.
(08:14:02 PM) Delna: Heh, well that dungeon is great, but not as good as others. And I did want to get out to come back to game
(08:14:13 PM) dkap: Ahh ... excellent.
(08:15:05 PM) Delna: I also got a new job since last I spoke to everyone, working at a college. Yay for fun jobs : )
(08:15:18 PM) dkap: Excellent.
(08:15:47 PM) dkap: Doing what, if I might ask?
(08:18:26 PM) Delna: Mostly reception, answering questions for parents and students. And since I like working with people it works out well for me
(08:18:41 PM) Delna: No more icky bank, woohoo!
(08:19:04 PM) Spot: i am still stuck at a bank
(08:19:23 PM) Delna: =(
(08:20:04 PM) dkap: Banks ... herm ... they keep coming up in my life ...
(08:20:19 PM) dkap: Keith works in a bank as well.
(08:20:55 PM) Spot: yeah I know, Keith and I have studied simultaneously for various certifications
(08:22:10 PM) Delna: I was up for a permanent position which would require me to get certifications before they decided to hire someone else. I am definitely somewhat relieved I will not have to do that studying anymore
(08:22:29 PM) Delna: I have heard it is long and tedious
(08:23:29 PM) Delna: Did I miss anything during the last two Tuesday sessions? There was nothing posted that I saw
(08:23:49 PM) dkap: I posted two weeks ago earlier today .. umm ... let me check.
(08:25:03 PM) dkap: Whoops ... now it's posted.
(08:25:36 PM) dkap: Better?
(08:26:14 PM) dkap: *sigh* I put dashes in it's name. Whoops.
(08:26:44 PM) dkap: And last week no one showed up for game.
(08:26:58 PM) Spot: I logged in!
(08:27:03 PM) Spot: And waited for a while
(08:27:06 PM) Spot: and logged out
(08:27:15 PM) Spot: I must have just missed you somewhen
(08:27:23 PM) dkap: Ahh ... I must have missed you.
(08:27:25 PM) dkap: Sad.
(08:27:27 PM) dkap: Sad for me.
(08:29:59 PM) Delna: Aahaa! Found it
(08:30:17 PM) Delna: Thanks =)
(08:33:09 PM) dkap: Not a problem.
(08:33:55 PM) dkap: Actually, I should probably read it as well ...
(08:35:09 PM) Mistress_Janice [~chatzilla@pool-98-110-171-21.bstnma.fios.verizon.net] entered the room.
(08:35:33 PM) Mistress_Janice: Hello?
(08:35:42 PM) dkap: Ahh ... greetings.
(08:35:46 PM) dkap: Did the trouncing go well?
(08:36:08 PM) Mistress_Janice: It went okay. Unfortunately, running with Drassir means no xp as he outlevels us all.
(08:37:29 PM) dkap: So he gets it all?
(08:38:36 PM) Mistress_Janice: I don't think he gets any either, as he outleveled the quest, too.
(08:38:49 PM) Mistress_Janice: He's busy farming for items he can't find anywhere else.
(08:39:20 PM) dkap: Old Mac Drassir had a farm? EIEIO?
(08:51:06 PM) dkap: So, no shit there I was ...
(08:51:22 PM) dkap: I mean ... Delna, I believe you were about to do something at the end of the last game, as the GM's puppet?
(08:51:59 PM) Delna: Hmm, I haven't caught up to the end. What was my puppet going to do?
(08:52:20 PM) dkap: It's better to wait ...
(08:52:22 PM) dkap: *grin*
(08:52:26 PM) dkap: They set you up, nicely.
(08:55:04 PM) Mistress_Janice: Testing, testing...
(08:55:15 PM) Delna: Uhohh, that grin sounds...perhaps dangerous
(08:56:13 PM) Mistress_Janice: Five, fnord, three, two, one...
(08:57:11 PM) dkap: You missed a number.
(08:58:37 PM) Mistress_Janice: I miss nothing! I see all!
(08:59:03 PM) Mistress_Janice: I even see the fnords! Look, there's one!
(08:59:48 PM) dkap: See the what? You need an object in that sentence.
(09:00:55 PM) Mistress_Janice: ...So, you can't see them. They're going to GIT you!
(09:01:13 PM) Mistress_Janice: It's sad that the most I talk in this game is OOC.
(09:01:28 PM) dkap: Actually, that's normal for this game, I believe.
(09:01:33 PM) dkap: Right Spot?
(09:01:41 PM) Mistress_Janice: Not normal for *me*, though.
(09:01:44 PM) Spot: Arooo?
(09:01:50 PM) Mistress_Janice: I tend toward more active chars...
(09:01:57 PM) ***Mistress_Janice pets Spot.
(09:02:14 PM) ***Spot wags his tail and pretends he's not.
(09:02:57 PM) dkap: You do tend toward more active characters. What, for example, are you active on, at the moment?
(09:03:32 PM) dkap: I'm happy to run back-story (or fore-story) while people are catching up.
(09:03:41 PM) dkap: Or answering questions (both in game and out ...)
(09:04:34 PM) Mistress_Janice: I.... Sam's Savage Worlds game, Star Fantasy, Shangrila, the DDO stuff, been invited into a fellowship when LOTRO goes active in a coupla weeks fer free... Ummm...
(09:04:36 PM) dkap: Including ones about the "spark" chef.
(09:05:07 PM) Delna: (Also, caught up now. I am to watch life lines is what I gathered)
(09:05:08 PM) dkap: Ahh ... no, I mean ... what is Mistress Janice active doing at the moment ...
(09:05:35 PM) dkap: To open yourself (or at least, your sight) to all of the various things, gathering and not.
(09:06:10 PM) Mistress_Janice: ...As far as I can tell, Janice is following her father around. Her skills don't seem to lend themselves to our present endeavours.
(09:07:00 PM) dkap: Right, but she is also the controller of a vast information network, and has her own projects (whatever they might be) bubbling away at the moment, I'm sure.
(09:07:31 PM) dkap: There is the whole snake-headed lady to get to know, on many levels ...
(09:07:56 PM) Mistress_Janice: Oh, Spot, a story I recalled the last time. Playing a Bastet with a bunch of puppies, at one point we decided we could use the cat's eyes to jump into the Umbra. Fortunately, the roll was made... so no puppy buried halfway through my head. :D
(09:07:57 PM) dkap: There are all sorts of things to probe, to communicate with, to try and take apart, or put together in ways that others haven't figured out yet ...
(09:08:17 PM) Spot: lol
(09:09:13 PM) dkap: Isn't that how a Jelicle cat jumps to the moon?
(09:09:17 PM) Mistress_Janice: From the background I was given on Janice, most of her projects are all Shadow-local. As are in her info sources, with a few family exceptions.
(09:09:36 PM) dkap: And, indeed, you are in that local shadow.
(09:10:08 PM) Mistress_Janice: Which is why I have no complaints, this is clearly important to said Shadow. Just... don't feel like I'm contributing.
(09:10:09 PM) dkap: This _is_ your home. Granted, it's been somewhat relocated, but ... relocated with just about everything intact.
(09:10:58 PM) dkap: You could be using your network to search out coincidences, or the histories of the spots we are discovering, either by your sources, or your magic, or your willingness to communicate.
(09:11:04 PM) dkap: There are patters for the seeing.
(09:12:03 PM) Mistress_Janice: I thought the stuff we're looking into is A) outside the experience of my info-net, and B) entirely without precedent. Didn't figure there was any way they could help.
(09:12:17 PM) Mistress_Janice: Um, that was supposed to be B )
(09:12:59 PM) dkap: These things have been going on for ages ... The snake-headed woman was trapped in that particular house of mirrors for at least 300 years ...
(09:13:07 PM) dkap: It didn't show up overnight.
(09:13:25 PM) dkap: And the blue boy and the brown boy have been fighting for time out of mind (at least for them ...)
(09:15:19 PM) Mistress_Janice: I thought what we were after were consequences of the shadow's peeling and placement here on Darkover.
(09:17:42 PM) dkap: They could be consequences of that, or they could be something else entirely.
(09:17:52 PM) dkap: No one has looked for information.
(09:18:33 PM) Mistress_Janice: Between my info-net and Father's, shouldn't we have already been knowledgeable about said things?
(09:19:19 PM) Mistress_Janice: At least, the ones that predate the disaster?
(09:24:10 PM) dkap: They might, should either of you have queried them ..
(09:24:17 PM) dkap: And it depends on the query ...
(09:24:48 PM) Mistress_Janice: I figured Dad would have asked, as he seems to have some idea what he's after out here. All right, I'll think about what to ask who.
(09:25:32 PM) dkap: Perhaps he figured you would have asked ... or is leaving you space to shine?
(09:26:05 PM) dkap: He's got no clue, and is simply presuming that his ... luck will bring all of you to the right places.
(09:26:35 PM) Mistress_Janice: ...we're all going to die.
(09:26:49 PM) dkap: Possibly ... ask Delna. *grin*
(09:31:29 PM) Spot: speak for yourself
(09:31:32 PM) Delna: Heh, well, a number of us have already faced that fork :P
(09:31:57 PM) dkap: And continued down the road.
(09:32:47 PM) Delna: because, why not?
(09:33:27 PM) dkap: Exactly.
(09:34:05 PM) Mistress_Janice: I'd rather not die. It's unladylike.
(09:34:31 PM) dkap: Yeah, if you die, you just end up in the Jewel, you've walked the pattern ...
(09:35:13 PM) dkap: Lately the Court Necromancer of Amber hasn't been incredibly active ... he's still there.
(09:35:20 PM) Mistress_Janice: SHHH! Don't let my Father hear you say that!
(09:35:38 PM) dkap: True enough. He doesn't even know what the patter is, presently ... *grin*
(09:35:58 PM) dkap: In fact, for an amber campaign, we are very short of Amberites at the moment ... *grin*
(09:36:11 PM) dkap: So, Delna, have you decided what you are going to do?
(09:36:29 PM) dkap: Mistress_Janice: are there questions you want to have your research team investigate?
(09:36:50 PM) dkap: Spot? Any good prey to be gnawing on?
(09:36:52 PM) Mistress_Janice: I... history of the empty area the boys were fighting in?
(09:37:10 PM) Spot is now known as Auricle
(09:37:18 PM) Auricle: And if you end up in the jewel......
(09:37:20 PM) Auricle: ....somthing.
(09:37:28 PM) ***Auricle looks blank and wanders off.
(09:37:32 PM) Auricle is now known as Spot
(09:37:48 PM) dkap: Thank you Auricle! So very true to form ... *grin*
(09:38:55 PM) dkap: Mistress_Janice ducks aside for a few moments, to use a telephone ... (I believe you can find a land-line not that far away.)
(09:39:47 PM) dkap: And comes back knowing that she has put a property-search into action, and ... perhaps, requested a minion, to run the errands for you?
(09:39:57 PM) Mistress_Janice: Errands?
(09:40:29 PM) dkap: Well ... like going back and forth to the phone, going to local government seats, and the like? Or are you going to do all the foot-work yourself?
(09:42:12 PM) Mistress_Janice: I dont know that we've got any need for that, at least now. The Umbral play makes non-Umbral contacts difficult... and I think Janice might welcome the chance to feel useful, rather than just ordering a minion around. Besides, the games folk like us tend to play tend to be fatal to lesser folk, and I doubt she'd risk her people. They're not battle minions.
(09:42:56 PM) dkap: Indeed. a very Child of the Count attitude. I like it.
(09:43:11 PM) Mistress_Janice: We're also place-hopping, so going back and forth to the phone would get lengthy. I'll call in later.
(09:43:41 PM) dkap: You could always simply open a gate to the nearest (or a preferential) phone, or simply, face to face with your minions, if such is your desire, and pattern ...
(09:44:16 PM) dkap: Since there isn't a ban, or lack of Magic around to be tapped, it's actually quite plentiful here ...
(09:45:13 PM) Mistress_Janice: Can I gate from the Umbra? I must admit, rituals take a lot longer than what Father seems to be able to manage, so I've been letting him handle that end of things.
(09:45:45 PM) dkap: There is the social stigma of not being blatant about it, but, in this particular company, it doesn't seem to be a problem.
(09:46:00 PM) dkap: Not from the Umbra, but you haven't gone back through to there, yet.
(09:46:27 PM) Delna: Was I supposed to be looking at the dragonfly's lifeline? I was a little confused what was suggested there
(09:46:41 PM) Mistress_Janice: Yah, unique company. Cell phone? If I don't have one, I'm sure Father can conjure one.
(09:47:18 PM) dkap: They don't exist in this mileau, alas.
(09:47:31 PM) dkap: Which is why he often uses magic and radios.
(09:47:49 PM) Mistress_Janice: Gotcha. Short-wave radio set?
(09:48:01 PM) dkap: You were supposed to be looking at the lifeline of whatever was coalessing, and that of the blue boy.
(09:48:22 PM) dkap: Yes, short-wave would work.
(09:48:33 PM) Mistress_Janice: Wasn't there something we were considering doing that might endanger the boy, like taking him away from the dragonfly?
(09:50:35 PM) Delna: Ahh, that makes sense I guess. Are the blue boy and the coalessing in any kind of sight range?
(09:51:03 PM) dkap: BOth are.
(09:52:15 PM) dkap: The boy is asleep right in front of you, the dragonfly about to be taken into the Umbra, and the coalessence is right there, pouring in from the ground that the old playground equipment is on.
(09:52:49 PM) Delna: Cool. If I am not in that place I will ask Spot to transport me and I will see if I can tell anything about the coalessing's life..if I can tell anything
(09:52:59 PM) Cagliostro [~sgorton@c-66-31-32-142.hsd1.ma.comcast.net] entered the room.
(09:53:16 PM) ***Mistress_Janice asks Spot, "If I get a handheld phone, could you bind a Weaver spirit into it, so it wouldn't require mundanities like cell-phone towers?"
(09:53:16 PM) dkap: Good evening good Count.
(09:53:20 PM) Cagliostro: my apologies; forgot it was Tuesday
(09:53:29 PM) ***Mistress_Janice shrieks and puts her clothes back on.
(09:53:41 PM) Cagliostro: oh, it's one of -those- games.
(09:54:21 PM) Mistress_Janice: Hasn't it always been? My favourite line from the first time I was involved... "My Daddy said I'm not supposed to kiss you anymore..."
(09:56:15 PM) ***Spot shows Janice a cell phone. "It already has a spirit in it, if you have a network for it to connect to. Otherwise...yeah, probably."
(09:56:54 PM) Mistress_Janice: I'm pretty sure the local network is still intact, and worldwide.
(09:57:21 PM) Spot: "Who are we calling then?"
(09:57:24 PM) dkap: I don't think there is a cell-phone network here?
(09:57:45 PM) Cagliostro: (where are we?)
(09:57:58 PM) ***Mistress_Janice shakes her head. "Put some queries in motion. Something like that will make contact easier than finding a landline each time."
(09:58:17 PM) Mistress_Janice: About where we were at the end of the last game. We're not very proactive. :D
(09:59:02 PM) dkap: Park, by the blue boy, the brown boy having been moved (unless I have that backward)
(09:59:27 PM) dkap: Both boys sleeping, the dragonfly not showing any sign of life.
(09:59:30 PM) Mistress_Janice: Does there need to be a separate network? I thought cells just connected to the existing network. With a Weaver interface, getting the signal where it should be shouldn't be an issue.
(09:59:32 PM) dkap: The thing coalessing.
(09:59:51 PM) dkap: I believe the cellphone is an umbral phone.
(09:59:52 PM) Cagliostro: ah, yes.
(10:00:00 PM) dkap: There just isn't an umbral network here ...
(10:00:25 PM) dkap: As in the phone can call ... well ... itself. But then you get a busy signal.
(10:00:41 PM) Spot: it allows you to connect from the umbra to an existing cell network
(10:00:52 PM) Cagliostro: "We are in a fairly isolated area. We could probably use radio. Radio's gotten more useful, since the world flattened and there was a large dome overhead to bounce signals off of."
(10:00:57 PM) Spot: it doesn't need an umbral network, it connects through the gauntlet
(10:01:37 PM) Mistress_Janice: I'm more looking for something that will work in the physical world, just wireless. I guess I can go with shortwave, it just seems a bit bulky.
(10:02:22 PM) Mistress_Janice: ..and less private than I'd prefer.
(10:02:25 PM) ***Spot shrugs.
(10:03:07 PM) Cagliostro: "That's where encryption comes in."
(10:03:23 PM) Cagliostro: "But I'm sure you could do something interesting with magic, as well."
(10:04:18 PM) Mistress_Janice: "Which will take time to set up with the folk I'd be communicating. As will any magic I might try - and my magic's not working well in the Umbra, which we continue to return to. I'm trying to make this easier, not more complex."
(10:05:01 PM) Spot: "It's weird your magic doesn't work well in the Umbra. Usually we have problems with mages' magic working TOO well.
(10:05:20 PM) ***Mistress_Janice 's turn to shrug.
(10:07:52 PM) Delna: Does the thing coalessing have a life line that I can see at this time?
(10:09:30 PM) dkap: How are you going to open to it?
(10:10:18 PM) Cagliostro: "That might be something to try; we could ask one of the mage refugees to demonstrate their magic in the Umbra."
(10:10:27 PM) Delna: Me? ..I'm not sure I know what that means exactly
(10:10:54 PM) dkap: Well don't you have to look at their soul-line or something?
(10:12:01 PM) Delna: It's just kind of something I see, kind of like a shading over everything I see at any given time. Like I am wearing sunglasses of death..
(10:12:13 PM) Delna: That I can't take off
(10:12:58 PM) dkap: Ahh .. gotcha. I thought it worked differently. So, no, you can't see enough of the thing that is coalessing to figure out if it will live or die soon.
(10:14:05 PM) ***Mistress_Janice turns to Cagliostro. "Father, do we have time enough for a full ritual divination on... whatever's coming through? Or are we doing more hopping soon?"
(10:14:10 PM) Delna: I was thinking that might be the case. What about the blue boy. Are people preparing to take the dragonfly somewhere right now?
(10:14:48 PM) Delna: I will tell everyone I can not tell anything on the thing coalessing right now
(10:14:56 PM) dkap: Mistress_Janice, you could always just re-cast a voice and image "gate" between you and whomever is near your desk in your library at the time. I believe that is well within your character, and have done it often enough before that your people know to look for it.
(10:15:26 PM) Mistress_Janice: Doesn't that cross the 'gauche' line? Or is that desk in a private place?
(10:16:33 PM) Cagliostro: "I'm not very good at divinations... unfortunately my scrying expert is unwell."
(10:16:52 PM) Cagliostro: "My plan was to check in around the time whatever manifests does, and deal with it then."
(10:17:32 PM) ***Mistress_Janice smiles. "I am - but as you know, most of my magic is ritual, and thus lengthy. I know it'll give me enough time, it's moving really slowly. But I'd rather not lose the rest of you if we're moving again soon."
(10:18:33 PM) dkap: Your desk is your sanctum sanctorum. it's about as private to you and your staff as you can get.
(10:18:43 PM) dkap: And this is something that wouldn't take you much time to do, or to hang.
(10:19:54 PM) Mistress_Janice: Hokay, then that's how I told them I'd be in touch, got a guesstimate so I'd know when to check back in for a preliminary report. Cag, the request was for a history of the 'empty' area the boys were fighting in, to see if we can get any additional info that might clarify what we're dealing with.
(10:21:46 PM) Cagliostro: "It's probably been suppressed, possibly lost in the wars... I'll ask my sources, and you can ask yours."
(10:22:13 PM) ***Mistress_Janice has asked, is giving them time to look.
(10:22:16 PM) ***Cagliostro contacts Jodo and asks for any more details they can find about the 'empty' area we're currently standing in - signs of when things were concealed, who concealed them, etc.
(10:22:27 PM) dkap: Not a problem, preliminary research will be available within the hour, and any in-depth material, or anomalies will be reported then as well, as any hold-ups.
(10:23:11 PM) Cagliostro: I will mention to them that it's quite possible someone is actively monitoring for people looking for those records. So be careful.
(10:23:28 PM) dkap: Jodo acknowledges, and lets you know it will happen as soon as the current ... excitement is over.
(10:25:35 PM) dkap: So, we have Delna reporting life on the boy, nothing on his umbral tied being (neither life nor death) and the coalessed being is not solid enough for a look-see.
(10:28:57 PM) ***Cagliostro hms.
(10:29:40 PM) Cagliostro: "I think I will take a quick step back to the castle to check on this excitement - some people should keep an eye on things, but certainly some people should feel free to come with me."
(10:30:04 PM) Mistress_Janice: "Then I will remain, and start my divination."
(10:30:25 PM) Spot: "I'd like to see you do your divination"
(10:30:44 PM) Delna: Hmm, excitement at the castle..if I am not needed here I would like to see what is going on there
(10:30:54 PM) ***Cagliostro opens a gate to the desert at the top of the ramp, takes whoever is going through, then closes the first gate and opens up a second gate to the Castle and goes through that.
(10:31:22 PM) Delna: If we are holding off on moving the dragonfly anywhere then perhaps I will go with?
(10:31:45 PM) Cagliostro: "Certainly."
(10:32:26 PM) Cagliostro: We are going to Cagliostro's castle, not Delna's, but this is probably not apparent until the second gate opens.
(10:32:57 PM) Cagliostro: Cagliostro's castle is a well-maintained baroque structure with some quite tall towers, in the center of a lake in a picturesque mountain valley.
(10:33:06 PM) Delna: ahhaa, that makes more sense.
(10:33:28 PM) ***Mistress_Janice wastes no time, beginning by drawing a circle around the playground equipment. "Perhaps you can give me some idea," she says to Spot as she works, "why my magic seems to be more difficult on the other side." Circle complete, she starts calling the quarters to protect them from whatever might be inside. "Divinations can be general, and this one will be at least a little, but I've got some...
(10:33:29 PM) ***Mistress_Janice ...questions to ask. What is it? Why is it here? Was it trapped here, and if so by whom? What connection did/does it have to the combatants?" She looks to Spot. "Any you can think of I should add to the list?"
(10:34:46 PM) Spot: "I don't know why magic is harder on the other side; it shouldn't be, you should be able to tap the spirit world; most mages can. Your magic must be...weird."
(10:34:56 PM) dkap: Count and Delna, there is a formal reception going on of a sort, and the Count just arrived at a raised throne and sat (back?) down on it.
(10:35:12 PM) dkap: Count and Delna: there seems to be a guest of honor to his right.
(10:35:30 PM) dkap: Delna, yes, he looks exactly like the gentleman whom you have been working with this entire time.
(10:35:34 PM) ***Mistress_Janice adds reflectively, "What does it intend when it becomes manifest?" She chuckles at Spot's comment, and nods. "It's a local version, and requires more... support, more trappings, than Father's seems to."
(10:36:25 PM) dkap: Spot, Mistress_Janice: the circle has firmed, and the quarters have arrived to stand their posts and guard.
(10:37:02 PM) ***Spot sits down to just observe.
(10:37:04 PM) Cagliostro: the Count Cagliostro standing next to Delna quietly slips out of the room
(10:37:05 PM) Delna: So I'm seeing two Counts?
(10:37:15 PM) Cagliostro: and finds a staff member to get a quick debriefing.
(10:37:16 PM) Delna: Or was?..
(10:37:27 PM) Cagliostro: was; you can stay in the room or follow the Count.
(10:37:38 PM) ***Mistress_Janice points to the quarters, and tells Spot, "These are the sorts of spirits I call. Not so much 'spirits' as... archetypes."
(10:38:21 PM) Delna: Follow the count, I don't know what is going on and would rather be with someone who might
(10:38:27 PM) Spot: GM: Is there actually spirits there?
(10:39:04 PM) ***Mistress_Janice begins the incantations of inquiry, letting Spot look as she will.
(10:39:06 PM) dkap: Count and Delna: I'm sorry, the reception is outside, but yes, you can pull a staff-member away to find out what is going on.
(10:39:37 PM) dkap: Spot, there is _something_ there, but it feels closer to Luna, manifestation, rather than actual spirits.
(10:40:17 PM) Cagliostro: aha, okay. I thought I was coming close to bilocation.
(10:42:23 PM) dkap: Count and Delna: The staff member carefully calls the Count "Jodo", and mentions that the Guest of Honor, claims to only be passing through, but ... did deserve to be shown the proper respect, on his way.
(10:42:30 PM) Mistress_Janice: Save up those points - Mikail wanted to buy himself named & numbered.
(10:44:25 PM) ***Cagliostro checks into the Guest of Honor's visit briefly - nothing untoward? Local dignitary?
(10:44:35 PM) dkap: Count and Delna: The staff member mentions that the guest of honor is "The emissary of the Princess, returning a lost sword."
(10:44:53 PM) Cagliostro: "Oh, indeed. Yes."
(10:44:55 PM) dkap: Count, not ... exactly local, no. *grin*
(10:45:17 PM) Mistress_Janice: Visiting indignitary.
(10:45:49 PM) Cagliostro: "Be sure the Count knows that if it would be helpful, I can take a break from my current tasks to assist him with his dignitary."
(10:46:33 PM) Cagliostro: to Delna: "Shall we take a brief detour to talk to one of the mages from your world?"
(10:46:59 PM) Mistress_Janice: Where is Delna from?
(10:47:41 PM) dkap: Delna is from one of the many rescued White-Wolf based shadows, just before Armageddon-events spread across all of them, when shadow was going away.
(10:48:32 PM) dkap: Count and Delna: The Staff member presumes that if the Count needed his faithful servant Jodo, he knows how to get a hold of him.
(10:50:05 PM) Cagliostro: "Indeed, but he may believe my current tasks are more urgent than they actually are."
(10:50:15 PM) Delna: ...I'm not sure we can what with it being largely destroyed..
(10:50:44 PM) Cagliostro: "There were five mage refugees. I resettled them... away from your castle. For various reasons."
(10:51:00 PM) Cagliostro: actually, cagliostro is slick enough that he would say "The count resettled them"
(10:51:01 PM) dkap: Count and Delna: The staff member will bring Jodo's information to the Count's attention.
(10:51:11 PM) Cagliostro: thank the staff member, open a gate to Al-Andalus
(10:51:18 PM) Cagliostro: whichever city I settled the mages into
(10:51:43 PM) Delna: "Ah, Um, ok then"
(10:51:46 PM) Cagliostro: I'll pick a likely candidate who might be willing to help. If I don't know anything about them, I'll pick one at random.
(10:51:47 PM) dkap: Count and Delna: The staff member bows, and heads off. You open the gate to the appropriate city.
(10:52:52 PM) dkap: Count and Delna: There is nothing out of the ordinary (at least not apparently out of the ordinary) in the town you've opened to. The only thing is that Delna is still wide awake, not tired, and has been hoping from day to night without a problem.
(10:53:34 PM) dkap: Mistress_Janice and Spot, the circle becomes a screen upon which murky images begin to appear.
(10:53:50 PM) ***Spot hmms and watches it closely
(10:54:08 PM) Mistress_Janice: GM: I presume this is not out of the ordinary?
(10:55:28 PM) dkap: Mistress_Janice: not too out of the ordinary, usually you get much more definitive images, these are ... well ... more murky.
(10:56:01 PM) Cagliostro: to Delna: "The Princess is a ... very old and powerful person, from the Courts of Chaos. I will be quite interested in the visit, but I didn't want to get too close to myself."
(10:56:48 PM) dkap: Mistress_Janice and Spot, the images seem to be that of confinement, and then that of a bottle, with the battling boys as the stopper.
(10:57:02 PM) ***Mistress_Janice tunes as best she can, commenting to Spot, "Usually this works more... clearly. We may be dealing with a power able to cloak itself, or something that's been deliberately hidden by some agency." She sets up a subsidiary recorder on the spell, so she can review in case they miss something the first time.
(10:57:03 PM) Delna: "About your having two selves...should I even ask?"
(10:57:40 PM) Mistress_Janice: Any details on that confinement? What might have done the confining?
(10:57:48 PM) dkap: Mistress_Janice: A recorder is part of everything you do, I think I forgot that bit, when telling you about your character. You have an archival fetish, so you record just about everything that goes on around you.
(10:57:52 PM) Cagliostro: "It can be quite useful to be in two places at the same time. Or, at least, to appear to."
(10:57:55 PM) ***Cagliostro winks at Delna.
(10:58:27 PM) Delna: "Yeah..I can imagine."
(10:58:28 PM) ***Spot hmms again.
(10:58:38 PM) Spot: GM: DO I sense anything trying to interfere?
(10:59:07 PM) dkap: Mistress_Janice and Spot, The bottle seems to be shaped much like the land you are standing upon, but ... there seems to be the hint of a church, or monastery in the background that is not here.
(10:59:39 PM) Mistress_Janice: Hopefully said structure will figure in the info my people are gathering.
(10:59:46 PM) dkap: Spot, you do not sense anything trying to interfere, nor are the guardians seeming to struggle with anything, nor is the circle showing any impingements.
(11:00:19 PM) Delna: To the Count, "So, what do we need from the mages?"
(11:01:01 PM) Cagliostro: "Well, the trick of performing magic in the Umbra would be nice."
(11:01:07 PM) dkap: As you walk down the street, heading for? Or are you going to do something right here?
(11:01:24 PM) ***Mistress_Janice murmurs to Spot, "Whoever did this took pains to cover their tracks. I'm glad we're getting anything, but I'm not sure we'll get a lot of answers."
(11:01:29 PM) dkap: Sorry, the last was to the Count and Delna.
(11:01:57 PM) Cagliostro: to Delna: "But I'll settle for a second perspective on the becoming, and perhaps establishing some communication between you, Spot, and this mage."
(11:02:20 PM) Cagliostro: gm: head for a mage location, if I know of one, or head to a local minder, if I don't.
(11:02:25 PM) Cagliostro: and then knock on the front door.
(11:03:09 PM) Spot: "I don't think I could improve on it, pretty, but I can try if you want."
(11:03:28 PM) dkap: The door is answered by someone who is obviously an apprentice in the ways of magic. Right down to the scorch-marks on the clothing, the vague smell of potions gone off, and the slight twitch to the fingers.
(11:04:21 PM) ***Mistress_Janice waves a gracious hand. "If you think you can clean it up, get us more, then by all means, feel free." She strengthens her grip on the spell, in case whatever Spot tries makes it unwieldy.
(11:04:23 PM) dkap: Mistress_Janice and Spot, the picture shifts, to the coalessing form, laying waste to the countryside. You don't know if this is a future vision, or a past one.
(11:04:54 PM) Mistress_Janice: Can we tell what it is/was? Form, essence, anything?
(11:05:48 PM) dkap: Not really, there is ... well ... a lack of physicality, just the presence, and devastation.
(11:06:36 PM) dkap: Hrm ... I really am slipping:
(11:06:36 PM) dkap: Count and Delna, The door is answered by someone who is obviously an apprentice in the ways of magic. Right down to the scorch-marks on the clothing, the vague smell of potions gone off, and the slight twitch to the fingers.
(11:06:43 PM) Spot: GM: Do I think I can strengthen it?
(11:06:54 PM) Mistress_Janice: an we tell anything from the devastation itself? Is it burning, crushing, dissolution?
(11:06:58 PM) dkap: Mistress_Janice and Spot: Not really, there is ... well ... a lack of physicality, just the presence, and devastation.
(11:07:01 PM) Cagliostro: gm: bow slightly, introduce myself as Count Cagliostro, introduce Delna, and ask if I can step inside a moment.
(11:07:44 PM) dkap: Count and Delna: The apprentice almost falls over himself, inviting his Master's Patron in.
(11:08:28 PM) dkap: Mistress_Janice: Rampant destruction, burning, trampling, over-running, razing, the like.
(11:08:55 PM) dkap: Spot: you have no idea how, but you can put some of your theurge background into it.
(11:09:09 PM) Cagliostro: after the door is closed, ask to speak to his master, if possible.
(11:10:24 PM) dkap: Count and Delna: He incants a pitcher, that smells overly citrus and a plate of something you suspect was intended to be either cookies or a cake, and changed it's mind halfway through, as he runs off to fetch his Master.
(11:11:24 PM) dkap: Spot: it's like calling to a moon-bridge, tapping yourself and the Caern for power to pour into it, but there is no Caern, and no moon-bridge, of course, just yourself, the power around you, and this working.
(11:12:38 PM) Cagliostro: gm: do I recognize the techniques at all?
(11:13:03 PM) dkap: Count and Delna: a moment or so later, one of the rescued mages comes down to see you, sees the refreshments, banishes them with a wave of his hand, and conjours some tea and small pastries, in the style of the Aribic traditions of the city you are in.
(11:13:44 PM) dkap: Count: you recognize the apprentice gated it in, and the Mage conjured it.
(11:14:22 PM) ***Mistress_Janice seems to be trying to puzzle out what's being seen. "Very... indiscriminate." She looks more closely, to see if the trapped thing wasn't acting on its own, but was rather inspiring folk below who then caused the destruction.
(11:14:23 PM) dkap: Count and Delna: the Mage makes shooing motions to his apprentice and offers the two of you the drink and the food, and chairs.
(11:14:55 PM) Cagliostro: accept the chairs, the food, and the drink.
(11:15:05 PM) dkap: There is a pulse of anger from the colaessing spirit, and the vision begins to be covered in fire.
(11:15:22 PM) dkap: Mistress_Janice and Spot: There is a pulse of anger from the colaessing spirit, and the vision begins to be covered in fire
(11:15:43 PM) Mistress_Janice: Did it seem to react to the words I just spoke? Is this unintentionally a two-way street?
(11:15:44 PM) Cagliostro: the Count will introduce Delna as a responsible member of the vampires.
(11:15:51 PM) Cagliostro: and a fellow refugee.
(11:16:10 PM) dkap: Count and Delna: He lets you sip and nibble, and then politely asks "What great honor has brought my good patron to see such a humble Mage as myself? What service might I do you good sir?"
(11:16:47 PM) dkap: Mistress_Janice: It's right here, inside the scrying with you, and therefore, might be a reflection of the future, of it's intent.
(11:17:14 PM) ***Mistress_Janice murmurs to Spot, "I think these are its intentions, not its past."
(11:17:40 PM) dkap: Count and Delna: The Mage is delighted to meet you, and glances at the obvious daylight outside that the two of you walked in, during.
(11:17:57 PM) Spot: (sorry was relocating in the house)
(11:18:07 PM) Spot: I'll try to make the image clearer then
(11:18:10 PM) dkap: (Not a problem. Wireless is fun that way.)
(11:18:30 PM) Cagliostro: the Count will briefly recap the incident with Delna and Meiglan, which involved the trapped gorgon that was freed, and will allow how that has caused him to spend some time searching the "Umbra" (the count's polite hesitation will indicate his unfamiliarity with the concept) for other trapped spirits.
(11:19:49 PM) Cagliostro: "My daughter and myself have been encountering constraints on our magic while in the Umbra. It happens that the werewolf who has been assisting us mentioned that this was unusual in his experience - mages typically have the opposite problem."
(11:20:40 PM) Cagliostro: "I was wondering if you would be willing to test the differences in our techniques, and perhaps illustrate what I am doing wrong, if that is an easy matter. Your perspective would also be welcome on another odd occurence, local to this world, that we are investigating."
(11:21:42 PM) dkap: Count and Delna: Mage: "I'd be happy to help you in your researches. I do not believe my apprentice is far enough along to be useful, please, give me but a moment to make sure he is seen to, and I will, at once, set forth to put my skills to whatever use they might be put to. My learning has increased tenfold in this new land, without the strife, without the need for struggle, and for the embracement of what I do in the fabric of daily life."
(11:22:48 PM) Cagliostro: "Of course, please, wrap up what you must."
(11:22:50 PM) dkap: Count and Delna: Mage: "It may be that I am almost uniquely suited to the task, my path has been a comparison of exactly that, what we were and the ways things are different here. You have come to the right one of our number."
(11:22:56 PM) Delna: (As much as I do not want to leave, I think it is time for me to call it a night. Delna may not need sleep anymore, but I am not so fortunate :P)
(11:23:09 PM) Mistress_Janice: It is kinda late.
(11:23:19 PM) Spot: zzzzzzzzzzzz
(11:23:19 PM) Cagliostro: sure. probably a good place to hang.
(11:23:24 PM) Delna: I hate to break up such a good roll
(11:23:26 PM) dkap: Ahh ... indeed, we can hang things here ...
(11:23:48 PM) dkap: And hopefully we will find the role again, when we meet again, in a week!
(11:24:14 PM) Mistress_Janice: Crush, smash, burn... I'm in the groove!
(11:24:53 PM) dkap: Excellent!
(11:25:00 PM) dkap: Let's wrap then!
(11:25:13 PM) Mistress_Janice: Later, folks!
(11:25:19 PM) Delna: Thanks and good night all!
(11:25:38 PM) Delna left the room (quit: Quit: ChatZilla 0.9.86 [Firefox 3.6.8/20100722155716]).
(11:26:33 PM) Cagliostro left the room (quit: Quit: Leaving.).
(11:26:51 PM) Mistress_Janice: Dkap, which log would cover the medusa-head?
(11:27:12 PM) Spot left the room.
(11:27:18 PM) dkap: Umm ... somehwere in the last two months, I believe.
(11:27:31 PM) Mistress_Janice: Okay. I'll look.
(11:28:18 PM) dkap: Give me a moment and I can grep for it.
(11:28:37 PM) Mistress_Janice: Chure
(11:30:46 PM) dkap: Start with 20100504 I believe.
(11:31:08 PM) dkap: And it goes through 20100518 I think, but it might go later.
(11:31:31 PM) Mistress_Janice: Okay, so it wasn't something I missed. I'll read up.
(11:34:48 PM) dkap: *grin* So much to read, so little time ...
(11:36:11 PM) Mistress_Janice: Yah. And the month of VIP on DDO is running, so I've been doing more of that than anything else fun.
(11:36:29 PM) dkap: I can completely understand.
(11:36:47 PM) Mistress_Janice: Still can't locate my paperwork. Tomorrow another search. :/
(11:36:54 PM) dkap: Good luck!
(11:37:05 PM) dkap: I'm off for the night. See you in a bit, or tomorrow.
(11:37:10 PM) dkap: Don't forget tomorrow is a rope night.

(08:25:11 PM) mode (+o dkap) by ChanServ
(08:25:39 PM) dkap: Sorry about that, folks.
(08:25:52 PM) dkap: Major presentation tomorrow, and I had to clean up a touch more than usual.
(08:26:30 PM) dkap: When last we left our intrepid heroes ...
(08:27:25 PM) dkap: The Count and Delna were talking to a Mage.
(08:27:43 PM) Cagliostro: yes
(08:27:47 PM) dkap: Mistress Janice and Spot were dealing with a scrying.
(08:27:53 PM) Mistress_Janice: Spot and I were watching a show.
(08:27:55 PM) Cagliostro: who was wrapping up his affairs and finding an apprentice-sitter.
(08:28:56 PM) dkap: Indeed to both.
(08:29:42 PM) ***Mistress_Janice doesn't have Ilk's popcorn habit, though.
(08:30:24 PM) dkap: *grin* Ahh ... you've gotten to that, then?
(08:30:44 PM) dkap: I believe Mistress Janice and Spot were talking about things, and watching the view change.
(08:30:58 PM) Spot: yup
(08:31:05 PM) Spot: I tried to make it clearer
(08:33:51 PM) Mistress_Janice: We also can't tell if we're watching past actions, or future intentions. Though the presence of the non-existent church/monastery/vaguely religious building might argue the former.
(08:34:10 PM) dkap: Indeed. How were you doing so? What rituals/connections are you making? I believe I made the observation that those at the quarters were more like the attention of Luna, rather than whole, actual spirits.
(08:34:56 PM) Spot: summon a lunar spirit to help bolster the spirit-ish ones here
(08:36:44 PM) dkap: Excellent. The speculation was, though, IIRC that it might be the future, because ... well ... there is no building currently visible, and when discussing things the intent seemed to get more bloody.
(08:37:26 PM) Mistress_Janice: Ah. I'd thought it was past as the destruction could well account for the building's absence in the present.
(08:37:55 PM) dkap: Indeed.
(08:37:59 PM) dkap: It is ... unclear.
(08:40:14 PM) Spot: I'll summon a lunar spirit to see if that can help make things clearer...
(08:40:37 PM) Mistress_Janice: I'm also hoping a report on the area will help, too. But it's not time for that call yet.
(08:41:10 PM) dkap: Spot: You reach out for Luna, and find that you cannot reach beyond the lovely bowl, erected around you.
(08:41:55 PM) Spot: ....startling
(08:42:35 PM) Spot: "ahhh....did you intentially block off Luna?"
(08:45:12 PM) dkap: I believe that was to Mistress_Janice?
(08:46:05 PM) ***Mistress_Janice blinks mildly. "I blocked off most everything - I mean, it wouldn't be much of a containment circle if anything could just interfere. I'd rather," a wave toward the images, "that not get out."
(08:46:17 PM) Mistress_Janice: gm: Can I let in the influence she's trying to add?
(08:46:18 PM) dkap: In the meantime ... Count and Delna: The mage goes to his Wall of Books, and starts taking some down.
(08:47:00 PM) dkap: Mistress_Janice: you would have to open the circle to it ... and who knows what else, or if this unknown could use that conduit to get out.
(08:47:15 PM) Spot: "Very strange magics, then."
(08:47:29 PM) ***Spot scowls a bit and ponders.
(08:48:57 PM) Mistress_Janice: "Perhaps that's part of the reason I'm having troubles in the Umbra." She ponders. "I could open it, but it'd be open rather generally. I *could* shut it down entirely, then recast the circle with... accommodation for Luna, perhaps?"
(08:49:27 PM) Mistress_Janice: gm Would that work? I suppose it'd be subbing Luna in at one of the quarters.
(08:49:35 PM) Spot: "What would that do to the scrying?
(08:49:59 PM) Mistress_Janice: "Stop it, we'd have to restart it again. Given that we're in no rush, that shouldn't be an issue..."
(08:50:01 PM) dkap: Either subbing Luna in for one of the quarters, or doing it 5 pointed instead of 4 ...
(08:50:22 PM) Mistress_Janice: gm Dome, 4 quarters and Luna up top?
(08:50:24 PM) dkap: Otherwise your protections might be unbalanced.
(08:50:27 PM) dkap: Exactly.
(08:54:06 PM) dkap: Count and Delna: Once he has two piles of books he puts the smaller pile in a satchel. The larger one gets a note written on it. He then turns to the two of you, and asks if you would wish to accompany him as he steps across the town to make sure his apprentice is well taken care of, or if you would wish to wait here, for his return.
(08:55:15 PM) ***Mistress_Janice tells Spot, "Circles are stronger with more participants - if I had my druthers, someone would be standing there, there, there, and there, representing and guarding the quarters themselves, embodying the principles I've called. You're a Theurge - if I can somehow situate you at the apex of a dome containment, I presume you can represent Luna to allow Her access?"
(08:55:22 PM) ***Delna looks to the count for his preference
(08:55:54 PM) Cagliostro: "I would be pleased to accompany you, in order to meet your fellows."
(08:56:50 PM) dkap: Mage to Count and Delna: Excellent. As soon as you have finished your refreshments, we will be off then!
(08:58:02 PM) ***Spot scratches the back of his neck a moment. "Yeah, I can do that. Not too hard. Luna gets on good with us wolves."
(08:58:56 PM) dkap: Spot and Mistress_Janice: the spirt seems to be coming together, at a single point, as if it heard you, and is going to try and make a break for it.
(08:59:27 PM) ***Cagliostro wraps up refreshments
(08:59:40 PM) Mistress_Janice: Can I feel... under the scrying, to what was happening when we started? Has that process speeded up?
(08:59:55 PM) Cagliostro: "Naturally, Delna's ability to enjoy your refreshments is... limited."
(09:00:14 PM) Spot: "Janice...the spirit..."
(09:00:21 PM) ***Mistress_Janice frowns. "That should *not* be happening. 'Ware, Spot, it may be trying to break out."
(09:00:43 PM) ***Mistress_Janice begins to shut down the scrying in good order.
(09:00:48 PM) Spot: "have you got something I could bind it into if need be?"
(09:01:00 PM) dkap: Mage to Delna and the Count: Of course! Pardon my manners. I am out of practice dealing with those of your ... state, and the whole ... well ... wandering around in the daylight has me completely flummoxed.
(09:01:37 PM) dkap: Mage to Delna and the Count: Shall we then?
(09:01:50 PM) dkap: The mage seems a touch flustered.
(09:02:52 PM) dkap: The mage manages, in good order to get his things together, and offers Delna and the Count the door.
(09:03:33 PM) Cagliostro: "Certainly, there is no shame in not considering it. Please, lead on."
(09:03:37 PM) ***Cagliostro follows the mage.
(09:03:37 PM) Delna: (Oh, haha, I just remembered my crippling fear of water...er, I mean food, in that it smells so awful I want to vomit and it smells about 20x what it should because of my heightened senses...I guess I have been pointedly not breathing this entire time)
(09:04:00 PM) ***Mistress_Janice pats her pockets, and finds... Hamsterite Eric. "Have you been in there this whole time?"
(09:04:12 PM) Mistress_Janice: (It's amazing, what you find in the logs.)
(09:04:37 PM) Spot: (that is the best quote in AGES)
(09:04:49 PM) dkap: The hamsterite looks at Mistress_Janice with a slightly cocked head, and says: Of course. Where else would i be napping?
(09:05:35 PM) caelin [~arkhonii@m3a0536d0.tmodns.net] entered the room.
(09:05:42 PM) ***Mistress_Janice sighs softly. "Perhaps my keys? No... I'm unfamiliar with your binding capabilities, what might be suitable?" She transfers Eric to her shoulder so he can get a better view.
(09:05:44 PM) Delna: Nods to the mage in response to his apologies.
(09:05:54 PM) Meiglan [~chatzilla@c-24-128-225-7.hsd1.nh.comcast.net] entered the room.
(09:05:59 PM) dkap: Now ... that was strange ... I just heard from Meiglan that she was about to try and get on, and ... Caelin does.
(09:06:03 PM) Mistress_Janice: Caelin! Meiglan!
(09:06:04 PM) dkap: There's Meiglan. Excellent!
(09:06:24 PM) dkap: Hamster Eric yawns and stretches.
(09:06:26 PM) ***Delna says to the mage when far enough away from the food: "The sunlight thing has me quite flumoxed as well"
(09:06:32 PM) caelin: yo!
(09:06:41 PM) Meiglan: (yayayyyayyy! made it!)
(09:06:48 PM) dkap: Greetings good sir! How goes your time?
(09:07:04 PM) dkap: Meiglan: I believe you are currently with Mistress_Janice and Spot.
(09:07:30 PM) dkap: Caelin, I believe you are with the Czar.
(09:07:36 PM) dkap: (from Fiddler)
(09:07:37 PM) caelin: busy but well
(09:07:43 PM) caelin: ahh good
(09:07:52 PM) dkap: The upcoming nuptuals have you running in circles?
(09:07:52 PM) caelin: lol
(09:08:01 PM) Spot: Caelin! hi!
(09:08:07 PM) Spot: and hi Meiglan
(09:08:14 PM) caelin: not to mention the fall season
(09:08:20 PM) dkap: Ahh ... indeed.
(09:08:28 PM) dkap: Are the two of you performing together in anything this season?
(09:08:39 PM) dkap: Oh, right, game, run. *grin*
(09:09:07 PM) dkap: Mistress_Janice, Spot do you want to catch her up?
(09:10:04 PM) Meiglan: yes please.
(09:10:33 PM) Spot: Um we're doing a scrying and it's not going well, and we have the brown bug, I think.
(09:11:24 PM) Spot: ...I must admit I have forgotten what we're scrying
(09:13:30 PM) Meiglan: the brown bug? I think there are antibiotics for that...
(09:15:34 PM) Spot: I'm having an auricle moment apparently
(09:15:51 PM) caelin: ignorance is truly bliss.
(09:15:53 PM) Cagliostro: you're scrying whatever is trying to manifest at the site of the blue & brown boys fighting
(09:16:35 PM) Spot: lol thank you!
(09:24:44 PM) caelin: test
(09:24:54 PM) Spot: we're here I think
(09:25:03 PM) Cagliostro: so, Meiglan: Janice set up a scrying circle in a blocked area, and got ambiguous but menacing portents
(09:25:11 PM) Cagliostro: or possibly antecedents. it's unclear.
(09:25:17 PM) Cagliostro: and that's pretty much were we are.
(09:25:26 PM) Cagliostro: Cagliostro and Delna popped out to find another perspective.
(09:25:45 PM) Cagliostro: and check up on some excitement happening around Castle Cagliostro.
(09:26:08 PM) caelin: i am on my phone. weak connection. home soon though.
(09:26:27 PM) Meiglan: ambiguous but menacing....any particulars on that? also what kind of excitement is happening at Castle C?
(09:27:19 PM) Cagliostro: to answer the second: unclear, which is why the Count dropped by in person
(09:29:24 PM) Cagliostro: to answer the first:
(09:29:25 PM) Cagliostro: (10:53:34 PM) dkap: Mistress_Janice and Spot, the circle becomes a screen upon which murky images begin to appear.
(09:29:40 PM) Cagliostro: (10:54:08 PM) Mistress_Janice: GM: I presume this is not out of the ordinary?
(09:29:40 PM) Cagliostro: (10:55:28 PM) dkap: Mistress_Janice: not too out of the ordinary, usually you get much more definitive images, these are ... well ... more murky.
(09:30:01 PM) Cagliostro: (10:59:07 PM) dkap: Mistress_Janice and Spot, The bottle seems to be shaped much like the land you are standing upon, but ... there seems to be the hint of a church, or monastery in the background that is not here.
(09:30:24 PM) Cagliostro: (11:04:24 PM) dkap: Mistress_Janice and Spot, the picture shifts, to the coalessing form, laying waste to the countryside. You don't know if this is a future vision, or a past one.
(09:30:25 PM) Cagliostro: (11:04:53 PM) Mistress_Janice: Can we tell what it is/was? Form, essence, anything?
(09:30:25 PM) Cagliostro: (11:05:48 PM) dkap: Not really, there is ... well ... a lack of physicality, just the presence, and devastation.
(09:30:36 PM) Cagliostro: (11:08:28 PM) dkap: Mistress_Janice: Rampant destruction, burning, trampling, over-running, razing, the like.
(09:30:48 PM) Cagliostro: (11:14:22 PM) ***Mistress_Janice seems to be trying to puzzle out what's being seen. "Very... indiscriminate." She looks more closely, to see if the trapped thing wasn't acting on its own, but was rather inspiring folk below who then caused the destruction.
(09:31:16 PM) Cagliostro: (11:15:06 PM) dkap: There is a pulse of anger from the colaessing spirit, and the vision begins to be covered in fire.
(09:31:22 PM) Cagliostro: (11:15:43 PM) Mistress_Janice: Did it seem to react to the words I just spoke? Is this unintentionally a two-way street?
(09:31:33 PM) Cagliostro: (11:16:47 PM) dkap: Mistress_Janice: It's right here, inside the scrying with you, and therefore, might be a reflection of the future, of it's intent.
(09:31:33 PM) Cagliostro: (11:17:14 PM) ***Mistress_Janice murmurs to Spot, "I think these are its intentions, not its past."
(09:31:41 PM) Cagliostro: and that's where we wrapped.
(09:34:08 PM) dkap: Sorry, was catching Mistress_Janice up.
(09:38:30 PM) dkap: Right then.
(09:38:34 PM) dkap: Does that help Meiglan?
(09:38:50 PM) dkap: (I was just giving her some background she needed for the current circumstance.)
(09:39:01 PM) Meiglan: (yes it does, thankee)
(09:40:05 PM) dkap: Excellent. Currently they are contemplating letting down the ward/circle and stopping the scrying, to allow Spot to add to the effort in an attempt at clarity.
(09:40:46 PM) Mistress_Janice: And also to prevent its apparent imminent escape attempt.
(09:41:07 PM) dkap: In the meantime: Count and Delna, you are walking across the town in the company of the mage, drawing few if any strange looks, and occasionally the mark of respect toward your companion.
(09:41:10 PM) Mistress_Janice: Spot, what might constitute an appropriate binding object?
(09:41:31 PM) Spot: "Dagger, sword...necklace...ring...."
(09:42:12 PM) ***Mistress_Janice seems more and more perturbed that the entity does not seem *nearly* as constrained as it should be. This should be the equivalent of one-way glass, but it seems to be reacting to us, and now gathering itself to escape what should be a passive scrying attempt.
(09:43:25 PM) ***Mistress_Janice purses her lips. "Given the last entity bound into a sword seems to have much in common with this thing, let's try something less... violent. Ring might be good..." She considers Spot, and ventures, "Would a stuffed animal be out of the question?"
(09:43:26 PM) Spot: "Well I could do another containment... Maybe your magics aren't as strong here as mine."
(09:43:55 PM) ***Spot blinks. "I'm not a ragabash. that's ... no."
(09:44:27 PM) dkap: (Awwe ... a little stuffed bat even? *grin*)
(09:46:24 PM) dkap: Spot: you could always bind it to a sheath? Unless you think they would collude?
(09:46:47 PM) dkap: Count and Delna: You reach another, well appointed house that looks vaguely mosque like.
(09:46:56 PM) ***Mistress_Janice finishes terminating the scrying, first.
(09:47:13 PM) dkap: Including dismissing the quarters? Do you think that is wise?
(09:47:28 PM) dkap: Sorry, Mistress_Janice: Including dismissing the quarters? Do you think that is wise?
(09:48:17 PM) Spot: (No I think they'd collude)
(09:48:21 PM) dkap: Count and Delna: There is some ritual with washing hands, and lighting incense, the mage goes through it without a hesitation, with the air of expecting that you both know your part in it.
(09:49:53 PM) Mistress_Janice: It was moving at a glacial pace before we started this, and seems to be using my own working to get out. I'd rather it didn't have that option. The quarters will be dismissed last, as is good practice...
(09:49:57 PM) ***Cagliostro will follow as best I can
(09:50:13 PM) caelin left the room (quit: Ping timeout).
(09:50:20 PM) Cagliostro: ritualized washing, at least, is something that the Count is quite familiar with
(09:50:55 PM) dkap: Dismissing the quarters might let it out.
(09:51:43 PM) Mistress_Janice: Well, I'll see where we are when I get the scrying itself cancelled.
(09:52:43 PM) ***Delna will watch and try to memorize what was done and follow suit
(09:53:11 PM) dkap: Delna and the Count: No raised eyebrows, and you enter the house.
(09:54:59 PM) dkap: Delna and the Count: Inside, in a beautiful courtyard, with a fountain, and artfully arranged trees, is the contact-person the Count had set up for this particular mage.
(09:56:03 PM) dkap: Delna and Count: he greets the count with great reverence and respect, flinging himself to the ground, knocking his head against it three times, and crawling backward, much to the amazement of the mage.
(09:57:08 PM) dkap: Delna and Count: The mage looks worried that he might have offended with his casualness.
(09:57:53 PM) dkap: Mistress_Janice, Meiglan, and Spot: The scrying has stopped, but the circle is still in place, when the spirit makes to rush out of the circle, and hits the ward.
(09:58:21 PM) ***Spot snarls at it.
(09:58:32 PM) dkap: Mistress_Janice: The feeling of the spirit against your working is ... loud with hatred and a wish for devastation.
(09:58:37 PM) ***Mistress_Janice studies it.
(09:58:56 PM) Meiglan: Meiglan steps back...the spirit is on fire and Meiglan doesn't like fire too much.
(09:59:30 PM) ***Mistress_Janice murmurs, "Was that it? Something bound you, and set a constant fight on top so you'd remain... satiated?"
(10:00:07 PM) ***Cagliostro tries to treat the whole thing as a ritual, and offers ritual responses "Get up, faithful servant, and stand next to me, etc."
(10:00:24 PM) Mistress_Janice: gm Do we still have one of the spirit combatants nearby?
(10:00:38 PM) Spot: (we should have the bug)
(10:01:01 PM) dkap: You have the blue boy, the bug was returned to the Umbra.
(10:01:37 PM) Spot: kk
(10:02:51 PM) dkap: New host to The Count: "My Lord, to have graced this humble servant with your presence twice, to have even been in this small and unworthy city twice in my lifetime, is an extreme blessing."
(10:03:24 PM) Cagliostro: gm: Do I recall meeting this guy before? Perhaps to set things up?
(10:03:28 PM) Mistress_Janice: "Spot, would you be so good as to look in on our former combatant? I'd like to know if it's... reacting to this in any way."
(10:03:49 PM) Mistress_Janice: gm Well, I meant in the umbra.
(10:04:04 PM) dkap: Count: you did set this up, but Jodo did it, apparently, in your person.
(10:04:21 PM) ***Spot growls at the spirit again then nods.
(10:04:52 PM) ***Mistress_Janice listens to the spirit, trying to discern... hatred for what? Of what? Against what?
(10:05:12 PM) dkap: Mistress_Janice: just hatred and destruction, destruction and hatred.
(10:05:29 PM) ***Spot goes to check on the Blue Boy.
(10:06:33 PM) Cagliostro: gm: that's what I thought
(10:06:37 PM) dkap: Spot: The boy (here) is still sleeping the sleep of victory.
(10:06:44 PM) Cagliostro: "It is a sign of the importance of your work."
(10:06:54 PM) ***Cagliostro gestures to the mage to carry out his business.
(10:06:57 PM) Spot: "Sleeping still."
(10:07:18 PM) Spot: Spot goes back to look at the spirit.
(10:07:54 PM) Spot: GM: Does it look as hard as the first one to bind?
(10:08:36 PM) dkap: Count and Delna: The mage, a little more hesitantly, says quietly to his sponsor, that (indicating the Count) has requested his presence for a working, for an unknown time, and would be indebted if (indicating his sponsor) would look after the apprentice, there is work, a path, and books laid out.
(10:09:01 PM) dkap: Spot: it shouldn't be any harder to bind, perhaps, easier, for this one isn't mostly in the umbra.
(10:11:19 PM) Spot: "Well, I'm capable of binding that if you've something I can put it in."
(10:12:10 PM) ***Mistress_Janice nods, and relaxes, letting a simple iron ring form in her palm, which she then offers to Spot.
(10:12:36 PM) ***Spot takes it and examines it to see if it will suit.
(10:12:42 PM) Caelin [~arkhon@c-98-234-88-12.hsd1.ca.comcast.net] entered the room.
(10:12:52 PM) Caelin: Home now. Much better.
(10:13:09 PM) dkap: Welcome home, Caelin.
(10:13:15 PM) dkap: Spot: It will suit.
(10:13:58 PM) Spot: "This is excellent."
(10:14:22 PM) Spot: All right, I should still have my bowl from the last time..."Now I'll just need blood."
(10:14:46 PM) ***Mistress_Janice beams. "I've been practicing," she confides to Spot. "Any... particular blood?"
(10:14:48 PM) ***Spot looks thoughtful. "And someone to hang onto this during the rite." He indicates the sword.
(10:15:31 PM) Mistress_Janice: "I can hang onto it, unless you need me in the rite...?"
(10:15:50 PM) Spot: "You'll need to keep up the wards at first."
(10:15:57 PM) Spot: "Meiglan?"
(10:16:03 PM) ***Mistress_Janice looks to Meiglan. "Then, perhaps..."
(10:16:06 PM) Meiglan: "I can hold onto the sword and use it if necessary."
(10:16:07 PM) Cagliostro: gm: once we wrap things up here, Cagliostro will open a gate to the area in question.
(10:16:19 PM) Cagliostro: at a time of conveience or inconvenience, depending on the Stuff involved ;)
(10:16:32 PM) dkap: Count: Of course.
(10:16:42 PM) ***Mistress_Janice whines, "Daddy, everything was FINE until you inteRRUPted!"
(10:17:04 PM) ***Mistress_Janice ahems, and smacks her player.
(10:17:05 PM) dkap: Count: do you want to use the transport room in the basement of this building, to keep with appearances?
(10:17:52 PM) Spot: (It was my blood, simon's, and... the count's? last time?)
(10:17:54 PM) dkap: Meiglan: The vibrations of the sword don't bother you, much.
(10:19:08 PM) Meiglan: "Tingly.." Keeps a firm grip on the sword.
(10:19:17 PM) dkap: Spot: it was, for the balance of the Wyrm (you) Weaver (Simon) and you had convinced one of the Woofs in the Urals for the Wilde.
(10:20:06 PM) ***Spot hmmms.
(10:20:18 PM) Spot: (Is Janice any of the three?)
(10:20:50 PM) Spot: (Or hamster Eric? Meiglan would be wyrm, she's a leech)
(10:21:05 PM) Cagliostro: good point, yes to the transport room
(10:21:09 PM) dkap: Janice might do for Weaver ...
(10:21:15 PM) ***Mistress_Janice would be loathe to offer her blood, though Eric is free to make his own decisions.
(10:21:23 PM) Cagliostro: (Anybody with Pattern might qualify...)
(10:21:42 PM) ***Mistress_Janice seems very Weaver.
(10:21:46 PM) dkap: Eric might do for Weaver as well.
(10:22:07 PM) dkap: And as for wilde, you have some, that you might be over-looking.
(10:22:18 PM) ***Spot turns to Janice and Eric. "I'd need blood from either of you...and we need someone for Wyld.... hey is the Gorgon still here?"
(10:23:08 PM) dkap: Indeed, although, she is waiting on the Umbral side, watching the Dragonfly.
(10:23:26 PM) ***Mistress_Janice tilts an eyebrow. "I'd rather not..." She considers Eric, evidently wanting to advise against it, but also unwilling to offend Spot. "Might there be some other alternative?"
(10:24:14 PM) Spot: "Wyld, Weaver, and Wyrm are the strongest...and that's a very angry spirit there. We need the power."
(10:24:53 PM) dkap: Eric: How much blood? One of the drawbacks of being ... small, is that I don't have a lot to spare ...
(10:25:50 PM) ***Spot hmms again. "I need enough to draw a circle. You might not have enough."
(10:26:10 PM) ***Spot wonders what it is about the Weavers that they don't want to give up blood, sheesh.
(10:28:14 PM) ***Spot amends it. "You probably don't."
(10:31:27 PM) ***Mistress_Janice opines, "That spirit's already proven to be able to use my magic to see us, and almost pry itself loose. I hesitate to think what it might be able to do were it able to access me more... directly."
(10:34:38 PM) ***Spot sighs. "I do, in fact, know what I'm doing. But if you don't want to ...chance.. it, sure. We can sit here and watch. Hell, maybe it'll make a deal with me, sure seems Wyrm-tainted to me."
(10:35:14 PM) Spot: "But I'm not one of the goody-two-shoes weres... blood is power, death is power."
(10:37:16 PM) Meiglan: "Worse comes to worse we can always kill it."
(10:38:43 PM) dkap: Meiglan: holding the sword that you are, you think that you could probably even use that.
(10:38:53 PM) ***Mistress_Janice tilts an eyebrow. "And you wonder why I don't want to part with mine?" She looks to Meiglan. "The fight might devastate the area... ourselves included." Time to get out her radio, and call the Count.
(10:40:11 PM) dkap: Just as the radio comes to hand, The Count, Delna and a stranger step through, right to the center of the ward.
(10:40:34 PM) ***Spot shrugs and looks at Meiglan. "You still want that, pretty? It's a handful."
(10:40:39 PM) dkap: The Spirit rushes for the open gate ...
(10:41:04 PM) Cagliostro: gm: does Cagliostro notice anything?
(10:42:35 PM) ***Mistress_Janice winces. "Oh, damn..."
(10:42:40 PM) Spot: (they are in the wards?)
(10:43:30 PM) dkap: Of course the count notices, and has time to react.
(10:43:47 PM) Cagliostro: gm: are we through?
(10:44:09 PM) dkap: Yes.
(10:45:22 PM) Meiglan: "I can deal." Readies the weapon in case it's needed.
(10:46:07 PM) dkap: Count: yes.
(10:46:42 PM) Cagliostro: gm: drop the gate, scrub thoroughly
(10:47:20 PM) dkap: The gate disappears before the spirit reaches it.
(10:47:39 PM) dkap: Being that it had to detour around Meiglan, and her raised ordinance.
(10:48:14 PM) ***Cagliostro raises an eyebrow. "Progress?"
(10:48:52 PM) dkap: The mage looks around, somewhat confused.
(10:49:12 PM) ***Spot growls at spirit and moves to try and box it in.
(10:50:04 PM) dkap: Mage to The Count, with deference: Sir? Umm ... are you aware there is a BSD-wolf growling at us?
(10:50:16 PM) Cagliostro: "Oh, yes, introductions."
(10:50:35 PM) ***Mistress_Janice blinks. "Apparently. Father, why not move... outside the circle? Whatever that is, it's hostile, strong, and seems to be using my scrying as a way to get at us. It's trying to get out, Spot wants to bind it. Meiglan thinks she might be able to kill it." Then she smiles at Father's latest guest, and curtsies.
(10:50:43 PM) Meiglan: Being as she's not supposed to kill it she plants herself firmly in front of the spirit with sword raised, baring sharks fangs to intimidate it.
(10:50:48 PM) Cagliostro: The Count introduces the Mage all round, as someone that has been brought in to provide another perspective to the working, and assist the Count and Janice in the Umbra.
(10:51:07 PM) ***Spot shifts to full crinos to better roar at the spirit.
(10:51:19 PM) Cagliostro: "Binding seems like a reasonable option. No reason to breach the circle more times than necessary."
(10:51:22 PM) ***Spot is apparently unconcerned with introductions.
(10:51:47 PM) dkap: Spot: conveniently, a weaver was just provided ...
(10:51:51 PM) Meiglan: "Kinda busy!"
(10:53:57 PM) ***Spot is helping Meiglan with the spirit.
(10:54:01 PM) Cagliostro: gm: if the lens will assist, offer the mage a glimpse at the spirit
(10:54:33 PM) dkap: Through the lens the Mage sees the spirit, and is appropriately awed and made nervous.
(10:55:20 PM) Cagliostro: gm: what does the spirit look like through the lens?
(10:56:00 PM) dkap: A wave of destruction, with a chaser of hatred.
(10:57:19 PM) ***Cagliostro hms.
(10:57:49 PM) dkap: Much nastier than when you looked at Stheno, before you knew who or what she was.
(10:57:51 PM) Cagliostro: gm: does it appear natural, artifically created, perhaps the afterlife of some other entity...
(10:59:10 PM) dkap: It might be an afterlife, or a construct, or even a god. It could be something that was once wronged, and, in it's anger and frustration burnt everything else away but this essence, you know, something that could destroy all the living beings in a shadow, because of the actions of a few.
(11:00:51 PM) Cagliostro: gm: mystic inertia level is high?
(11:01:03 PM) Mistress_Janice: And it's been locked under a playground for gods know how long. Don't forget the humiliation angle.
(11:02:08 PM) ***Mistress_Janice notes her father examining it, and offers a playback of the scrying, pointing out the unknown church/monastery thing.
(11:02:27 PM) Cagliostro: gm: does the church/monastery ring any bells?
(11:04:54 PM) Cagliostro: or shall we hang here?
(11:05:47 PM) Spot: hang here
(11:06:16 PM) dkap: Hrm ... hang here works.
(11:06:37 PM) Caelin: Good night, folks!
(11:06:49 PM) Caelin left the room (quit: Read error: EOF from client).
(11:06:56 PM) Cagliostro: good night!
(11:07:15 PM) Cagliostro left the room (quit: Quit: Leaving.).
(11:07:21 PM) Spot left the room (quit: Quit: ChatZilla 0.9.86 [SeaMonkey 2.0.6/20100701063550]).
