(08:16:27 PM) dkap: Sorry about that.
(08:16:45 PM) dkap: Came home, sat down for a moment, then it was past time for game.
(08:16:48 PM) dkap: *grin*
(08:19:25 PM) Cagliostro: yes, time sense.
(08:19:32 PM) dkap: No, sleep sense.
(08:19:34 PM) dkap: *grin*
(08:19:40 PM) Cagliostro: ah, that too
(08:19:49 PM) Cagliostro: we were discussing last night that you would have problems in Ravenloft
(08:19:57 PM) dkap: What is Ravenloft?
(08:20:01 PM) Cagliostro: "Let me check one more thing... oh, it's after dark."
(08:20:19 PM) Cagliostro: in this particular case, it's the mist-shrouded castle of the first of the vampires.
(08:21:34 PM) dkap: Yeah, I'd get nailed that first or second day ... "What do you mean the sun set? It's like noon, isn't it? Hello? Anyone? Ahh ... good evening, could you tell me what time it is? And why are you looking at me like I might have a sign on me that reads $4.99/lb"?
(08:23:53 PM) dkap: But, on to this campaign ...
(08:24:09 PM) dkap: When last I recall ...
(08:24:55 PM) dkap: The two of you were dealing with ... rhino-kitty?
(08:25:00 PM) dkap: Or had we gotten past that?
(08:27:07 PM) Cagliostro: yes, we already had
(08:27:14 PM) Cagliostro: it had followed us for a bit, don't know if it got distracted
(08:27:31 PM) Mistress_Janice: It's still with us,. I think.
(08:27:39 PM) ***Mistress_Janice has been being nice to it.
(08:27:42 PM) dkap: Ahh ... yes, then you got as far as the eggs?
(08:27:45 PM) Cagliostro: hm. last week's log is us trying to figure out where we were.
(08:27:47 PM) Cagliostro: yes to the eggs.
(08:27:54 PM) Cagliostro: and we popped the guy's head off who was laying the eggs.
(08:28:03 PM) Cagliostro: and found that he got talked into it
(08:28:12 PM) Cagliostro: so we were stabilizing him and moving on
(08:28:15 PM) dkap: And the young "lady" who, wanted desperately to help you?
(08:28:25 PM) Cagliostro: not so much
(08:28:40 PM) Cagliostro: we found the forest spirit macking on the guy on the path, but we just walked past
(08:29:01 PM) dkap: Oh? Didn't you pry into motivations or anything?
(08:29:11 PM) dkap: To see if there were further traps at this section of the path?
(08:31:36 PM) dkap: Ahh ... I was just informed not to try and notice dirty foreheads tomorrow.
(08:32:01 PM) Mistress_Janice: ...dirty foreheads?
(08:32:22 PM) dkap: Today is fat tuesday, so tomorrow is ash wednesday.
(08:32:53 PM) Cagliostro: we had checked and found that he was supposed to set traps but he got distracted
(08:32:57 PM) Cagliostro: so we had moved on
(08:33:32 PM) dkap: Right ...
(08:35:46 PM) Cagliostro: is there a log up for a couple of weeks ago? I think my log is on my netbook...
(08:38:16 PM) dkap: (10:22:26 PM) Cagliostro: in that case we'll walk slightly around, looking for traps
(08:38:16 PM) dkap: (10:22:32 PM) Cagliostro: if we are spotted, "Pardon me" and continue
(08:38:16 PM) dkap: (10:22:42 PM) dkap: Are you going to dip into either of their memories?
(08:38:16 PM) dkap: (10:23:58 PM) Cagliostro: if it won't slow me down, yes
(08:38:16 PM) dkap: (10:24:07 PM) Cagliostro: I presume that the man is not our target
(08:38:16 PM) dkap: (10:25:26 PM) dkap: You can dip into his ... his "old commander", who was just passing through, hundreds of miles away from where he should be advising the King, had ordered him to arm the balista-traps, but this lovely young "lady" seems to have distracted him.
(08:38:16 PM) dkap: (10:25:57 PM) dkap: Her memories? You aren't sure where to find them ....
(08:38:16 PM) dkap: (10:26:13 PM) Cagliostro: hm
(08:38:16 PM) dkap: (10:26:20 PM) Cagliostro: continue, then
(08:38:16 PM) dkap: (10:26:39 PM) Cagliostro: except to check the timing on the old commander
(08:38:16 PM) dkap: (10:27:07 PM) dkap: Approximately 4 hours ago.
(08:38:16 PM) dkap: (10:27:26 PM) dkap: (give or take a seduction ...)
(08:38:16 PM) dkap: (10:28:01 PM) Cagliostro: k...
(08:38:16 PM) dkap: (10:28:08 PM) Cagliostro: we continue
(08:38:16 PM) dkap: (10:33:18 PM) Cagliostro: or should we hang?
(08:38:16 PM) dkap: (10:33:39 PM) Mistress_Janice: We do seem slow.

(08:38:59 PM) dkap: Sorry about that, did the flood get through? Or did I get "kicked" for nothing?
(08:39:37 PM) Cagliostro: only the first line came through
(08:39:43 PM) dkap: Right then.
(08:39:49 PM) dkap: Cagliostro: in that case we'll walk slightly around, looking for traps
(08:39:55 PM) dkap: Cagliostro: if we are spotted, "Pardon me" and continue
(08:40:01 PM) dkap: dkap: Are you going to dip into either of their memories?
(08:40:07 PM) dkap: Cagliostro: if it won't slow me down, yes
(08:40:14 PM) dkap: Cagliostro: I presume that the man is not our target
(08:40:23 PM) dkap: dkap: You can dip into his ... his "old commander", who was just passing through, hundreds of miles away from where he should be advising the King, had ordered him to arm the balista-traps, but this lovely young "lady" seems to have distracted him.
(08:40:29 PM) dkap: dkap: Her memories? You aren't sure where to find them ....
(08:40:36 PM) dkap: Cagliostro: hm
(08:40:44 PM) dkap: Cagliostro: continue, then
(08:40:52 PM) dkap: Cagliostro: except to check the timing on the old commander
(08:40:59 PM) dkap: dkap: Approximately 4 hours ago.
(08:41:04 PM) dkap: dkap: (give or take a seduction ...)
(08:41:10 PM) dkap: Cagliostro: k...
(08:41:11 PM) Cagliostro: right...
(08:41:17 PM) Cagliostro: and then I think we continued along?
(08:41:18 PM) dkap: Cagliostro: we continue
(08:41:25 PM) dkap: Cagliostro: or should we hang?
(08:42:29 PM) dkap: And then, later (I think) there was some discussion about asking why the Huldra decided to seduce him, but I wasn't sure if that was IC or OOC.
(08:43:08 PM) Cagliostro: I think IC just to make sure he was going to live through it.
(08:43:14 PM) Cagliostro: or at least, as long as he wasn't a jerk about it.
(08:46:33 PM) dkap: Right ... so how are you going about it?
(08:47:23 PM) Cagliostro: I think probably just relying on what cagliostro knows about huldras
(08:47:26 PM) Cagliostro: he's kind of in a hurry
(08:47:49 PM) Cagliostro: and these guys were willing to attack him, so he's not feeling the need to go too far out of his way to help them out.
(08:48:40 PM) dkap: Having pulled his memories, and showing no sign of previous exposure, it's unlikely she would have dropped to the clinch, without a very good reason.
(08:50:12 PM) dkap: While traditional seductions by these folk usually are angling toward matrimony (which might or might not be considered heinous, depending on your point of view) normally they don't just open themselves out without the promise of matrimony (so they can become "real folk")
(08:50:22 PM) Cagliostro: true.
(08:51:10 PM) Cagliostro: hm.
(08:51:43 PM) ***Cagliostro can't figure a way to intrude without it getting awkward.
(08:51:58 PM) Mistress_Janice: Or, we have some unknown benefactor who's beginning to interfere.
(08:52:19 PM) Mistress_Janice: And, we're losing time. I suggest we keep going.
(08:52:28 PM) dkap: A simple addition of some sleep-inducing chemical to his bloodstream has been your habit in the past ...
(08:54:20 PM) dkap: Especially since falling asleep after incredible sex is not out of character for this one.
(08:54:26 PM) Cagliostro: true.
(08:54:31 PM) Cagliostro: but I'd have to wait for 'after'.
(08:54:36 PM) Cagliostro: and I don't want to screw up her ritual.
(08:54:49 PM) Cagliostro: if she's screwing this guy for a reason.
(08:54:58 PM) Cagliostro: so, yeah, I concur with Janice, and we continue
(08:55:08 PM) Cagliostro: we'll drop by again on our way to put back the now-headless guy.
(08:55:10 PM) dkap: Oh, you have about, say a minute and a half before he's done. If you wait that long, you might not even need to use any outside means.
(08:55:54 PM) Cagliostro: hm. the quarry is four hours ahead... we can wait tha tlong.
(08:56:48 PM) dkap: And indeed, he leaves a deposit, and with a grin on his face to beat the band, he rolls over and starts snoring before he even notices you.
(08:57:24 PM) dkap: The Huldra pauses ... pats him on his head stands and bows to the party.
(08:57:43 PM) dkap: (I think I lost a comma in there somewhere.)
(08:59:16 PM) ***Mistress_Janice curtsies.
(09:00:12 PM) ***Cagliostro bows in return.
(09:00:23 PM) Cagliostro: "Thank you for foiling this ambush."
(09:01:43 PM) dkap: Huldra: "A small consideration for past favors, my lord." (distinctly to the Count)
(09:02:29 PM) Cagliostro: "Indeed? Hm. Know you aught of the man who directed this one to set the ambush?"
(09:02:59 PM) ***Mistress_Janice murmurs sotto voce to Father, "And how did she know she could repay you, here and now?"
(09:04:54 PM) ***Cagliostro quietly acknowledges Janice's point.
(09:04:55 PM) dkap: Huldra: I do know of him, from times past.
(09:05:26 PM) dkap: Huldra: Just as I know you have stood against him, and only you could hurry him on such a path.
(09:06:41 PM) dkap: Huldra: The wood still stands, as testament to your skill turned against him, and I am glad I could act swiftly and show the wood remembers it debt to you.
(09:06:56 PM) Cagliostro: "Can you tell me of him? He flees too quickly for me to recognize him."
(09:07:40 PM) dkap: Huldra: So it is but chance and the hands of the fates that bring you against him, once again?
(09:08:27 PM) dkap: Huldra: Then I am doubly glad, Sir Corwin, that I could help in this.
(09:09:32 PM) Cagliostro: "I cannot say whether it is fate, or whether he is allied with those that would do the world ill. I fear the latter, but I know not his name."
(09:10:36 PM) dkap: Huldra: The befowler of the woods never did bother to leave his name, but you will know him by the use of those around him to destruction, casually and callously.
(09:11:56 PM) Cagliostro: "Then we should not tarry. Thanks again, and good fortune."
(09:12:00 PM) dkap: If the woods can do aught to help, our debt runs deep, these hundred years we have stood.
(09:12:00 PM) ***Cagliostro continues
(09:12:31 PM) dkap: Huldra: Were he to turn back on the path, and can be delayed or waylayed, we will do our best for you, Lord Corwin.
(09:12:57 PM) dkap: Huldra: Hunt your family member well!
(09:14:26 PM) Cagliostro: after we have passed: "Well, that doesn't sound good."
(09:14:58 PM) dkap: Zach: "Corwin? You don't look like my uncle, any more than I do."
(09:15:39 PM) dkap: Zach: But if it is a Family matter, should we call in reinforcements?
(09:16:43 PM) Cagliostro: gm: is the whole family off dealing with Gwen, or has that not happened yet?
(09:17:41 PM) Cagliostro: "I was a bit surprised by that, but the only Corwin I know is a noble hamster, who I do not resemble.:
(09:17:52 PM) dkap: I thought it was just most of the youngsters dealing with the Gwen-reemergence Threat?
(09:18:16 PM) dkap: Zach shuffles through his card-deck and shows you the picture of Corwin.
(09:18:28 PM) dkap: Who you do recall from your land's histories.
(09:18:43 PM) dkap: (Where he was, eventually, villified, iirc?)
(09:18:59 PM) dkap: (Oh shadow of Avalon?)
(09:19:01 PM) ***Mistress_Janice twitched a little when she said it, but kept her mouth shut.
(09:19:27 PM) Cagliostro: "Oh, -that- Corwin. He was one of yours?"
(09:19:41 PM) dkap: Zach: My uncle, yes.
(09:19:42 PM) Cagliostro: gm: not being an Amberite, I don't know. ;)
(09:20:07 PM) dkap: (Yes, I know ... *grin*)
(09:20:48 PM) Cagliostro: "It is quite a tragic story. 'Yea, we wept, when we remembered Avalon'."
(09:21:17 PM) Cagliostro: "So are we tracking Malachi, then? Or did Corwin have other enemies than his illegitimate son?"
(09:21:45 PM) Cagliostro: gm: conjure a photo of the memories of the person that Zach's ranger saw - I don't think I'd done that before.
(09:22:01 PM) dkap: Zach: Unfortunately, amongst the family, I wouldn't say it was enemies, just ... disagreements that sometimes got out of hand.
(09:22:45 PM) dkap: No images shown, as to yet, as far as I know, except to your daughter.
(09:23:07 PM) dkap: Zach: He more resembles Eric than anyone else in the family, I would guess.
(09:24:00 PM) dkap: Zach: Not Malachai at all. I wonder how he is getting on, lately? Or if he is still alive?
(09:24:18 PM) dkap: Actually, Zach wouldn't have added the last ... strike that.
(09:24:31 PM) ***Cagliostro hms at the line before that, then.
(09:24:32 PM) dkap: Zach is the optimist of the family.
(09:24:59 PM) Cagliostro: "So if we're tracking someone who can walk as you do, can we catch up to them?"
(09:25:14 PM) Mistress_Janice: "That would account for the 'visiting uncle' we ran across. He left his clothing behind the last time, being in such a hurry. The colours might give us a hint as to who we're following."
(09:25:15 PM) dkap: Zach: Not unless we know their goal.
(09:27:05 PM) Cagliostro: "Perhaps we need to alter our approach, in that case."
(09:29:18 PM) dkap: Zach: Well ... we should be ready, but I believe we already are. Whomever they are, they are not widely known by the family, so are probably young, and therefore rash in actions.
(09:29:52 PM) Cagliostro: "Hm. That reminds me of the son of Gerard, who destroyed a city to make a point."
(09:30:20 PM) Cagliostro: "I am concerned about the possibility of the effects of these draps on bystanders."
(09:30:31 PM) dkap: Zach: indeed, hasty, with little manners and little regard for the lives they take.
(09:32:20 PM) dkap: Zach: Respect for life comes late to many of my family members, alas.
(09:32:43 PM) Cagliostro: "Alas indeed."
(09:32:45 PM) dkap: Zach: They could learn quite a bit from you, good sir.
(09:33:02 PM) Cagliostro: "Not me alone."
(09:33:10 PM) Cagliostro: "So what should we do?"
(09:33:31 PM) Cagliostro: "Can we lay a trap of our own, i fhe finds we are no longer following and returns?"
(09:33:37 PM) dkap: Zach: Prep for the next set of traps, and see how we can close the gap.
(09:34:21 PM) dkap: Zach: I fear that were we to stop following, he would happily go his way and achieve whatever goal is in his mind, probably to our, and other's, detriment.
(09:34:34 PM) dkap: Zach: I fear we must simply press on, and press our advantages where we may.
(09:35:00 PM) Cagliostro: "Lead on, then."
(09:35:46 PM) dkap: (I presume that this conversation was while traveling on ... as opposed to stopping along the way. Am I correct?)
(09:38:21 PM) Cagliostro: (Sure)
(09:39:13 PM) dkap: Your bubble of ward starts pressing through a veritable cloud of insects, and ahead you can hear someone in great pain and anguish. They sound, maybe, 10 feet ahead of you, but you can't see them because the insects are so thick in the air.
(09:39:56 PM) Cagliostro: hm. try to ward around them, and purge the insects from the ward.
(09:40:19 PM) dkap: Them as in the source of the screams?
(09:40:57 PM) dkap: A moment, I'll be right back.
(09:41:24 PM) Cagliostro: yes, the screams
(09:43:00 PM) Mistress_Janice: "Father, don't you have a magic carpet with you? Moving faster does tend to make a difference... and most of our opposition has been land-based."
(09:44:21 PM) Cagliostro: "If it would help, I could put something together..."
(09:44:39 PM) Cagliostro: "But perhaps after this crowd of insects."
(09:44:43 PM) dkap: You can do so, the screams don't stop, though.
(09:44:53 PM) dkap: Do you press on to the source?
(09:46:08 PM) dkap: (of the screams)
(09:46:08 PM) Cagliostro: yes
(09:46:19 PM) Cagliostro: it's either a trap or the trapper
(09:46:25 PM) Cagliostro: either way...
(09:47:31 PM) dkap: Ahh ... a few feet in front of you, when your wards touch the ward erected around the individual, you see someone in a suit designed to keep out insects, with three insect nests crushed around him, and a tear down the back of his suit and the flesh under the tear obviously eaten away in great chunks.
(09:47:56 PM) dkap: Organs exposed, with bits missing, bones stripped of flesh and muscle ...
(09:48:02 PM) dkap: Not a pretty sight.
(09:48:29 PM) dkap: And the insects are still swarming (mostly harmlessly as far as you can tell) around the wards.
(09:48:44 PM) Cagliostro: gm: get a quick memory download, sort out the interesting bits.
(09:48:54 PM) dkap: There is a broken branch near him, that looks like it, and he, fell from the tree above you.
(09:50:19 PM) Cagliostro: *nod*
(09:50:20 PM) dkap: The local town Sheriff had just shown up at his door, about 2 hours ago, instructing him to get three flesh-eating fly-nests, and set them, with tripwires about this particular path.
(09:51:07 PM) dkap: While he was setting up the first, the branch he was sitting on broke, dropping him, there was a tearing noise as he fell, and then THE PAIN!
(09:51:26 PM) Cagliostro: what does he normally do with flesh-eating fly nests?
(09:51:56 PM) dkap: Destroys them, when they can be found, out of season, and warn people away when they are in season (such as now).
(09:52:56 PM) dkap: And he wears his suit and flings poisoned flesh, when some animal dies in their kill-zone, when they are swarming.
(09:53:28 PM) dkap: This request was so strange, but, he felt compelled to do it, (not unnaturally) because the Sheriff instructed him to.
(09:53:28 PM) Cagliostro: okay.
(09:53:46 PM) Cagliostro: so he falls into the category of should-be-fixed.
(09:53:55 PM) dkap: Of course, the image in his head, and the image of the Sheriff are ... not at all similar, something about height, weight, hair-colour etc.
(09:54:01 PM) Cagliostro: head in a bag, stabilized, labeled, and we continue on.
(09:54:09 PM) Cagliostro: and the image in his head is quite familiar?
(09:54:39 PM) dkap: Yes, similar to all the other anomoulous mis-matched memories.
(09:54:57 PM) dkap: Once you cut off the pain, the head expires, from sheer relief of it being gone.
(09:55:44 PM) dkap: Do you attempt to resussiatate(sp?)?
(09:56:06 PM) Cagliostro: if possible, yes.
(09:56:08 PM) dkap: (And notice you are catching up ... each setting of traps seems to delay the one you are tracking some ...)
(09:56:58 PM) Mistress_Janice: Step lively, then!
(09:57:17 PM) dkap: You can, indeed revive him, you might want to wipe the memories of the pain, first, for it was that memory (and the relief from it) that caused the push over into death (I was being eaten, then the pain stopped, I must be dead now ...)
(09:58:04 PM) dkap: And are you going to do anything about the insects themselves?
(09:58:32 PM) dkap: Or just keep them outside your wards?
(09:58:50 PM) Cagliostro: I was going to wipe the memories, yes. if it'll make it easier to stabilize him, then I'll do it now.
(09:59:06 PM) Cagliostro: I think kill the insects, yes, if they're dangerous and usually contained.
(09:59:13 PM) dkap: Yes, it would probably stabilize him.
(09:59:52 PM) dkap: They are dangerous, and they are usually combated (not as effectively as they could be but these are people with somewhat limited resources in that direction ...)
(10:00:01 PM) Cagliostro: wipe wipe then. from his mind and mine.
(10:00:17 PM) dkap: A good choice, on both accounts.
(10:00:28 PM) Cagliostro: Outsource flesh-eating insect control to Janice.
(10:00:55 PM) dkap: Mistress_Janice? You ...
(10:01:41 PM) Mistress_Janice: Okay, point of order. Does the Count tend to share the info coming from these downloads? I'd been about to spread around some poisoned meat, when I realized I didn't hear that part.
(10:02:03 PM) dkap: Unless he says specifically he shares, presume not.
(10:02:24 PM) dkap: Although that might be countered for this particular excursion ... Count?
(10:02:52 PM) ***Mistress_Janice grumbles as she digs through her handbag. "Grenades aren't encompassing enough. Maybe I could import a flamethrower..."
(10:03:04 PM) Cagliostro: In general no, in this particular situation, yes.
(10:03:11 PM) Cagliostro: "Don't you use magic, my dear?"
(10:04:33 PM) Mistress_Janice: "I do, but I don't really have a magical fly-swatter hung... and I'd rather not waste some of my bigger bangs on stuff this minor." However, once the info is shared, she will begin conjuring some hunks of poisoned meat and throwing them outside the ward. And soem hunks of unpoisoned meat, so rhino-kitty doesn't have to go after what she's tossing for the insects.
(10:05:26 PM) dkap: Rhino-kitty looks at the conjured meat with distain, both the poisoned and unpoisoned. It wasn't hunted, it doesn't count.
(10:06:36 PM) Mistress_Janice: Well, at least RK's not bounding out of the ward to go after it, which is the point.
(10:06:43 PM) dkap: The insects stop simply flying in the air, and bee-line for the meat (excuse the pun).
(10:06:51 PM) dkap: They start eating, and dieing.
(10:07:38 PM) dkap: But, they do seem to be able to eat quite a bit, for such a small insect. About 6 times their mass in poisoned meat is what it takes to get them all.
(10:08:24 PM) dkap: You can understand why they are a local menace.
(10:10:53 PM) Mistress_Janice: Throw a sufficient amount, then.
(10:10:54 PM) Cagliostro: indeed.
(10:12:32 PM) dkap: Next trap seems well-set, unlike the last several, three sets of vines, dripping acid, looks like they were pulled across the path overhead, and carefully perforated to slowly drip through, and then tear at once and splash acid about. The wards took easy care of it, and no one else was about, no one hurt.
(10:14:29 PM) Cagliostro: "Hm."
(10:14:33 PM) Cagliostro: we continue.
(10:14:47 PM) dkap: Next trap is three summoned air-elementals doing their best to tear you to pieces.
(10:14:54 PM) dkap: How are your wards on the movement of air?
(10:15:35 PM) Mistress_Janice: Can Janice just dismiss them?
(10:16:18 PM) dkap: And how would the Ifrit react to it?
(10:17:19 PM) dkap: How would you dismiss them? They are here, they are (for some value) real, and not knowing the complexities of this particular shadow, there might be a banishment, or an assumption of control, or ...
(10:17:37 PM) dkap: They are being, like the Ifrit, not simply something that can be wished or willed away.
(10:17:48 PM) Mistress_Janice: I meant banish. If they seem to have been summoned, can she return them whence they came?
(10:18:16 PM) Cagliostro: hm.
(10:18:19 PM) dkap: You would need to know that.
(10:18:27 PM) Cagliostro: They could probably ooze through the wards, but not bash through.
(10:18:29 PM) dkap: Besides, the Count has a tendency to recruit such ...
(10:18:39 PM) Cagliostro: indeed. that was my next question - can I bind them?
(10:19:26 PM) dkap: You would have to know how to bind them, which might take research, or you could use your usual tact and wit to get them to change sides, as you often do.
(10:19:58 PM) Cagliostro: a fair point.
(10:20:03 PM) Cagliostro: "Hello?"
(10:20:35 PM) dkap: The first: "How dare you greet us, O Insignificat puff of air."
(10:20:45 PM) Mistress_Janice: While he's talking, Janice will attempt to ascertain where they came from, so she can try to send them home should negotiations go badly.
(10:21:31 PM) dkap: Ifrit: "You know not to whom you speak. It is the Creatrix of the Great Race of Ifrit. Show some respect, if not for him, then, at least for his act of bringing Us about!"
(10:22:38 PM) Cagliostro: "If I may - did the entity that instructed you to bar our way seem somewhat out of place? And now that you think about it, are there certain anomalies about their appearance?"
(10:24:20 PM) dkap: The Second: The Mage who bound us to this task, burned the last of his favors with our race to do this, so it must be of Great Import, and we will allow none to pass along this way."
(10:25:33 PM) dkap: The Third: (to the Ifrit) You, who stand behind these walls claim so great? Come, face us in our power, and we shall see to whom respect will flow.
(10:25:43 PM) Cagliostro: gm: I've been in people's minds - is it that they see him as the person they want, or they just accept him at that?
(10:26:04 PM) dkap: The Ifrit looks to the Count for permission to exit the ward.
(10:26:15 PM) ***Cagliostro grants same.
(10:26:31 PM) Cagliostro: to the Ifrit: "Try not to kill them, they were tricked."
(10:26:32 PM) dkap: They seem to see him as a person who is in power to grant whatever is being asked of them.
(10:27:02 PM) Mistress_Janice: Request, not grant?
(10:27:32 PM) dkap: The Ifrit nod to the Count: They are young and arrogant, but, like children should be schooled, without causing damage to their possibly growth to become adult.
(10:28:26 PM) dkap: The Ifrit steps through the protection and walks to just in front of the center between the three of them.
(10:30:27 PM) dkap: Much is brought to bear and simply deflected, absorbed, or ignored by the Ifrit. It is furious combat toward Wafiqah, but she doesn't seem to do more than accept the lance.
(10:31:05 PM) Mistress_Janice: "Perhaps we should press on, and talk to them more at length when we return?"
(10:31:20 PM) dkap: After a few moment she (the Ifrit) starts declaiming, in rhyming couplets, the more effective patterns of attack, as if instructing children.
(10:32:05 PM) Cagliostro: "I suspect this won't take long."
(10:32:43 PM) dkap: And then, after the third repeat, follows the exact patterning of the attack she was just declaiming upon the Third of the elementals (the one who called her out.)
(10:33:11 PM) dkap: The pattern completely dissipates the power brought to bear, without harming the elemental itself.
(10:34:02 PM) Cagliostro: to the elementals: "The entity that we pursue has the ability to disguise itself as a person of great trust, and it abuses that trust to set traps in our way. The mage that your race owed a favor? Was not here. How long as it been since he has been seen? How likely is it that he was here this day?"
(10:34:15 PM) dkap: There is a pause, then the second elemental turns the self-same pattern on the first, and with less grace and skill, but successfully does the same to the First.
(10:35:04 PM) dkap: The second then ceases their power, and turns to the Ifrit: Please, teach us of your skills.
(10:36:22 PM) dkap: Wafiqah sighs, says "I am currently accompanying the Creatrix, If you are willing I will ask him if he will allow me to instruct you, as we travel, otherwise it might be some time before I return to this local."
(10:37:01 PM) dkap: There is some quick consultation, and agreement that, if allowed they will accompany. Wafiqah nods, and says she will inquire if that is acceptable.
(10:37:19 PM) Cagliostro: "It is indeed."
(10:37:27 PM) Cagliostro: and so we continue.
(10:37:51 PM) dkap: She walks to just in front of the wards and, looking at the Count: These children would like to learn, would it be too burdensome for them to join us, on our path?
(10:38:29 PM) dkap: Having accepted the Counts willingness to let them join, they follow along.
(10:38:38 PM) Cagliostro: yay.
(10:38:45 PM) Cagliostro: change the quote to "Indeed they may", and we continue.
(10:39:16 PM) dkap: The question asked would fall here, and the answer would be something along the lines of, they are sure that the mage was who he was. There are ways of telling within the summoning, and the favors were well known.
(10:40:08 PM) dkap: And the timing of the summoning, after some debate back and forth about the measurement of time, turns out to be about a half-hour ago.
(10:40:42 PM) ***Cagliostro hms.
(10:41:01 PM) Cagliostro: gm: Any ability to interact with their memory?
(10:41:28 PM) Mistress_Janice: Yay, we're catching up!
(10:42:53 PM) dkap: You wouldn't know where to begin to look to see where they pulled it from, unfortunately.
(10:44:46 PM) Cagliostro: well, I could see if their memories sync up
(10:45:02 PM) Cagliostro: and if the person we're hunting is -actually- the mage
(10:46:12 PM) dkap: Or the mage (because of the timing skew) was the one who was suborned into giving up his last favors for this trap.
(10:47:07 PM) dkap: Up through now, the trap-elements themselves that you have come across in their being set state, have not been set by the individual you are chasing, but by others along the way.
(10:48:00 PM) dkap: On the other hand, you might be closing fast enough that your quarry might have to take a more direct hand in befouling your path.
(10:48:06 PM) Cagliostro: right
(10:48:17 PM) Cagliostro: and if I can check their recent memories, I might get hints about that.
(10:48:55 PM) dkap: Right. Unfortunately you have no idea how, besides questioning them, their ... memories and phsiotomy are not all that familiar to you.
(10:49:26 PM) dkap: And you travel on, this delay was under 5 minutes as the clock ticks.
(10:50:19 PM) dkap: Wafiqah and the elementals (sounds like another band name) do not actually re-enter into the wards, but accompany closely.
(10:50:50 PM) Cagliostro: right, that was the question, about the memories. so yes, we continue.
(10:53:33 PM) Cagliostro: shall we hang?
(10:54:17 PM) dkap: The next trap is simply three companies of well-armed thugs, arguing amongst themselves about position, who gets to attack first, etc, when you arrive.
(10:54:39 PM) dkap: Hrm ... we could hang, but we seem to have momentum ... *grin*
(10:56:39 PM) Cagliostro: I can go for a bit longer, but it id seem like we lost momentum there
(10:56:52 PM) Cagliostro: gm: conjure knockout gas.
(10:56:55 PM) Cagliostro: and continue.
(10:58:20 PM) dkap: They take a few more argumentative exchanges, and then fall over. You checking memories, or just passing onward?
(10:58:44 PM) Cagliostro: checking memories briefly of the loudest ones
(10:58:54 PM) Mistress_Janice: Janice will look over their weaponry, in case there's something she'd like to take along.
(10:59:04 PM) Cagliostro: and checking to be sure that our quarry isn't hiding in plain sight
(10:59:09 PM) dkap: The leaders memories each have a different person who ordered them there, who doesn't resemble ... you know the pattern.
(10:59:46 PM) dkap: Their weaponry is primitive at best, mostly high-blacksmith art.
(11:00:39 PM) dkap: The quarry was through 45 minutes before, which would fit nicely with the time it would have taken for the mage to set up, and build his spell.
(11:00:56 PM) Cagliostro: interesting.
(11:01:17 PM) ***Cagliostro fails to mention in front of the elementals that they were actually honor-bound to attack us.
(11:01:18 PM) dkap: (Oh, and the Elementals tell you they were bound until defeat, which they were, which is why they could accompany you.)
(11:01:39 PM) Cagliostro: Oh, in -that- case, then I'll tell them that apparently the mage was tricked or coerced, and they were correct.
(11:01:44 PM) Cagliostro: and we continue.
(11:02:33 PM) Mistress_Janice: Follow the gold-brickin' road...
(11:03:03 PM) dkap: Indeed forward you go.
(11:03:21 PM) dkap: This particular stop didn't even take you the whole 5 minutes to defeat.
(11:04:03 PM) dkap: The next trap is found when your ward bumps into another ward.
(11:04:27 PM) dkap: And we might want to hang here, for I expect this one to take longer (not in game time, but in our time to run through.)
(11:04:59 PM) Cagliostro: k
(11:05:00 PM) Cagliostro: reasonable
(11:05:06 PM) Cagliostro: so: next-time - ward bumps!
(11:05:18 PM) Cagliostro left the room (quit: Quit: Leaving.).
(11:06:00 PM) Mistress_Janice: Hokay, got farther tonight, anyway. Yay!
(11:06:12 PM) Mistress_Janice left the room (quit: Quit: ChatZilla 0.9.86 [Firefox 3.6.15/20110303024726]).
